Frequently Asked Questions - 1168730 BRENNENSTUHL

How to test the operation of the protection device?
Press the TEST button. You should hear a click and the red mark in the control window should disappear. If not, do not use the device and have it checked.
What to do if the red indicator does not light up after pressing RESET?
Ensure the wall outlet is powered. If the indicator remains off, the device may be defective. Do not use and replace the device.
Can I use this protection plug with a refrigerator or freezer?
No, because a prolonged power cut (due to unintended tripping) could damage food. These devices require continuous power.
What to do after a power cut?
After power is restored, press the RESET button to reset the device. The red indicator should reappear.
Can the plug be used outdoors?
Yes, thanks to the IP54 protection rating, it is resistant to water splashes and dust, but should not be submerged.
What is the difference between IΔN 30 mA and 300 mA?
An IΔN of 30 mA provides personal protection (safety threshold), while 300 mA is mainly for material protection against fire.
Does the device replace grounding?
No, it does not replace standard protection measures. It should be used in addition to a properly grounded installation.
How to clean the protection plug?
Unplug it and wipe with a dry cloth. Never use water, solvents, or abrasive products.
Can I plug an extension cord into this plug?
It is recommended to plug the protection plug directly into the wall socket to ensure its effectiveness. An extension cord may reduce protection.
What to do if the TEST button produces no click?
This indicates a malfunction. Stop using the device immediately and have it checked by a professional. Do not attempt to repair it yourself.

USER MANUAL 1168730 BRENNENSTUHL

Caution: Important safety precautions!

  • Its use under other conditions, e.g. in ambient temperatures above 40°C or in the presence of combustible gases, solvents, fumes, dust, relative humidity above 80% or in wet conditions is to be avoided without fail.
  • If it can be assumed that risk-free use is no longer possible, stop using the safety plug immediately and make it secure against unintentional use. Risk-free operation can no longer be assumed if it fails the function test, exhibits visible damage or is damaged in transit or through storage under unfavourable conditions.
  • Servicing and repairs may only be carried out by authorised, qualified persons. Only genuine manufacturer's spare parts may be used for replacement purposes.

Description of function

The electronic safety plug is a highly sensitive, transferable item of equipment which provides protection against hazardous accidents resulting from physical contact with live leads or parts. If a potential risk arises, the adapter responds even at low leakage currents (minimum 30 mA), interrupting the power supply within a few milliseconds and assuring safe, swift protection between the power socket and the connected appliance.

The safety plug is intended to be used as a fixed connecting plug and permanent attachment for frequently used electrical appliances. Some models are already cable-connected. Point 1 of commissioning does not apply in such cases.

Directions for use

  1. Engage a qualified electrician to connect the safety plug to the appliance or extension cable in place of the normal plug, in accordance with the applicable regulations.
Ensure without fail that the green/yellow lead is connected to the screw marked with the earth symbol.
  2. Plug the safety plug directly into a wall socket only. Before doing so, switch off the connected electrical appliance.
  3. Switch on the safety plug by pressing the RESET button. A red indicator must appear in the window above the RESET button.
  4. Now carry out a function test by pressing the TEST button. A distinct switching noise must be heard and the red indicator must disappear.
  5. The safety plug must not be used if the switching noise is not heard and the red indicator continues to appear in the window.
  6. If the test proves successful, press the RESET button again. The safety plug is now ready for use.

Note:

From time to time, carry out a function test, press the Test button and perform the procedure described above.

After a power cut, switch on the safety plug again.

The safety plug is not suitable for appliances which may give rise to consequential damage if disconnected from the power supply for a prolonged period of time (e.g. refrigerators, freezers, etc.).

This safety plug does not eliminate the need for other essential protective measures.
