How to fill the water tank of the Severin BA 3234 iron?

Unplug the appliance. Turn the steam button to 'dry ironing' position. Open the filler cap and pour water using the supplied measuring cup without exceeding the 'Max' level. Close. Preferably use distilled or demineralized water.

How to use the steam shot?

Press the steam shot button to emit a powerful hot burst. Ideal for stubborn creases or thick fabrics. Can also be used vertically to steam hanging garments.

What to do if the iron drips?

The anti-drip function automatically blocks water flow if the temperature is too low to produce steam. Wait for the light to go off (temperature reached) before ironing with steam. If problem persists, check that the temperature is sufficient.

How to clean the ceramic soleplate?

Unplug and let cool. Use a lint-free cloth soaked in a water-vinegar mixture to remove deposits. Do not use abrasive products. Never put vinegar in the tank.

When and how to use the self-cleaning system?

Perform self-cleaning every 10 to 15 days or after long periods of non-use. Fill the tank halfway, set the iron to maximum temperature, wait for the light to go out, unplug, hold the iron over a sink, turn the spray button to CLEAN, and press while tilting the iron until water stops coming out.

What temperature settings for which fabrics?

The temperature dial shows symbols: • for synthetic (low), •• for silk/wool (medium), ••• for cotton/linen (high). Always start with the lowest temperature to avoid burning the fabric.

Can tap water be used?

Yes, if hardness is below 15°dH. For harder water, it is recommended to use distilled, demineralized, or decalcified water to extend the life of the iron.

How to store the iron after use?

Unplug and let cool completely. Empty remaining water through the filler opening. Store the iron vertically on its base to protect the soleplate.

What to do if the indicator light does not turn on?

Check that the plug is properly inserted and the power outlet works. If the iron is hot, the light may be off because temperature is reached. If no light turns on after cold plugging, contact after-sales service.

Does the warranty cover breakdown?

The 2-year warranty covers material and manufacturing defects. It does not cover normal wear, breakable parts (glass, bulbs), or damage due to misuse. Keep the proof of purchase.

Before using the appliance, read the following instructions carefully and keep this manual for future reference. The appliance must only be used by persons familiar with these instructions.

Connection to the mains supply

The appliance should only be connected to an earthed socket installed in accordance with the regulations. Make sure that the supply voltage corresponds with the voltage marked on the rating label. This product complies with all binding CE labelling directives.

Important safety instructions

• Do not leave the steam iron unattended while connected. Always remove the plug from the wall socket, even if you leave the room only for a short while.
• Do not use the iron if it has been dropped onto a hard surface, or if it shows any sign of damage or leakage.
• The iron must be used and stored on a stable and durable surface only.
• Even with the iron placed on its back rest, ensure that this too is on a stable and durable surface.
• In order to avoid hazards, repairs to this electrical appliance or its power cord must be carried out by our customer service. If repairs are needed, please send the appliance

to our customer service department (see appendix).

• Before cleaning the appliance, ensure it is disconnected from the power supply and has cooled down completely.
  • To avoid the risk of electric shock, do not clean the appliance with water and do not immerse it in water.
• Before refilling or emptying the water reservoir, remove the plug from the wall socket.
• This appliance may be used by children (at least 8 years of age) and by persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lacking experience and knowledge, provided they have been given supervision or instruction concerning the use of the appliance and

fully understand all dangers and safety precautions involved.

• Children must not be permitted to play with the appliance.
• Children must not be permitted to carry out any cleaning or maintenance work on the appliance unless they are supervised.
- While switched on or still cooling down after use, the iron and its power cord must be kept well away from children under 8 years of age.

- Caution: Keep any packaging materials well away from children – these are a potential source of danger, e.g. of suffocation.

- Do not operate the appliance if excessive force has been used to pull the power cord. Damage cannot always be detected from the outside; the entire unit should therefore be checked by a qualified technician before it is used again.

- The appliance operates at very high temperatures. Do not touch any part of the appliance except the handle. Burns

can occur from touching the hot parts of the housing or the soleplate and from hot water or steam. Do not allow steam to escape in the direction of anyone nearby.

• When operating the steam iron, hold only by the handle.
• The iron should only be placed on heat-resistant surfaces, never near hot surfaces (eg hot-plates) or in the vicinity of open gas flames.
• Do not allow the power cord to touch hot surfaces. Do not coil the power cord round the appliance.

• Always remove the plug from the wall socket

• after use,

• in case of any malfunction,

• before cleaning the appliance.

• When removing the plug from the wall socket, never pull on the power cord; always grip the plug itself.

• No responsibility is accepted if damage results from improper use, or if these instructions are not complied with.

Filling with water

• Fill the water reservoir before using the steam function or the spray nozzle.
• Remove the plug from the wall socket before filling the reservoir.
• This steam iron is to a large extent resistant to hard water (up to 15^ dH).

Although normal tap water may be used, it is advisable to use distilled, demineralised or decalcified water.

Should you be unsure about the hardness of the water in your area, please enquire of the relevant local authority department.

• Turn the steam control button to its 'dry ironing' position.
• Open the cover of the water fill hole.
• Fill the empty water reservoir to the indicated "Max" level, using the measuring cup provided.
• Close the water fill hole.

Anti-drip function

If the temperature of the soleplate is not sufficient to produce steam, the water supply is cut off automatically to prevent dripping.

General information about ironing

Always check first whether a label with ironing instructions is attached to the article to be ironed.

- The meaning of the ironing symbols is as follows:

• synthetics (low temperature)
• silk and wool (medium temperature)
••• cotton and linen (high temperature)

• These markings can also be found on the temperature control knob of the steam iron in form of dot symbols.

- Laundry to be ironed should be sorted according to the fabric ironing temperature. Follow the ironing symbols and start with the lowest temperature.

- When ironing highly sensitive fabrics, or if you are not sure about the fabrics, you may carefully test-iron at a non-visible point, e.g. inside of seam. Start with the lowest temperature.

- If the laundry is being dried in a dryer before ironing, the temperature should be adjusted to "iron dry". Very dry fabrics are difficult to iron.

Start up

Clean the steam iron before using for the first time, according to the instructions given in the paragraph ‘Cleaning and care - Self-cleaning system’. This will result in the removal of possible dust particles from the soleplate and subsequently lessen the smell typically encountered when first switching on.

Caution: Please ensure sufficient

ventilation.

Ironing

• Steam ironing requires high temperatures. The temperature level for steam ironing is indicated on the temperature control knob.
• After filling the reservoir with water, place the steam iron upright on its base stand and insert the plug into the wall socket.
• As soon as the steam iron is connected to the mains, the indicator light comes on.
• Set the temperature control knob to the required ironing temperature as indicated by the ironing symbols.
• The indicator light will go out once the required ironing temperature is reached.
• Before ironing any fabrics, the soleplate should be cleaned by passing it over an old, clean cotton cloth, while using the steam jet function; this helps to flush out any dirt residues or lint particles trapped inside the openings in the soleplate.
• The steam output can be adjusted with the steam control button or completely switched off for dry ironing.
• For dry ironing, the water reservoir may be empty. Should there be water left in the reservoir, the steam jet function may also be used when dry-ironing at higher temperature settings.
• Place the steam iron upright on its base stand after use and remove the plug from the wall socket.

Steam jet

• When the steam jet buttof is depressed, an additional hot steam jet is emitted from the soleplate. This function can be very useful when the regular amount of steam emitted is not sufficient to remove stubborn creases or when ironing difficult or thick fabrics.
• The steam jet function may also be used with the iron held vertically, to remove creases or wrinkles from fabrics.

Spray Nozzle

The laundry can be dampened by pressing the spray button. This will help to smooth out difficult areas. The spray nozzle may be used at any temperature level during dry or steam ironing.

Cleaning and care

• Before cleaning the appliance, ensure it is disconnected from the power supply and has cooled down completely.
• To avoid the risk of electric shock, do not clean the appliance with water and do not immerse it in water.
• If necessary, the unit may be wiped with a dry fuzz-free cloth.
• Starch, fat and other deposits on the soleplate may be removed with a woollen cloth soaked in a vinegar-water solution.
• Do not use abrasives or harsh cleaning solutions.
• Do not put vinegar or other descalers into the water reservoir.

Self-cleaning system

The self-cleaning system flushes out loose mineral deposits and keeps the appliance free of lime and dust particles. Self-cleaning should be performed if the iron has not been used for an extended period of time, or otherwise every 10-15 days. Proceed as follows:

• Half-fill the water reservoir with water.
- Place the iron on its base stand and insert the plug into the wall socket.
- Set the temperature control to its maximum.
- Turn the steam control button to its 'dry ironing' position.
- Wait until the indicator light goes out.
- Remove the plug from the wall socket.
- Hold the iron horizontally over a sink.
- Turn the steam control button to its

CLEAN position and press it.

• With the steam control button depressed, swing the iron lightly to and fro until no more steam or hot water is emitted.
• Pour out any remaining water from the reservoir.
• Allow the soleplate to cool down before cleaning it with a damp, lint-free cloth.

Storage

• Turn off the steam iron, remove the plug from the wall socket and let the unit cool down completely.
  • Pour any remaining water out of the reservoir through the water fill hole.
• To avoid damage to the soleplate, store the steam iron in upright position on its base stand.
