UK STYLE PLUG WIRING INSTRUCTIONS (IN THE UK ONLY)
This product must only be used from a 13 amp power socket. If a BS1363 approved 13 amp plug is used, it should be fitted with a 13 amp fuse. The wires on the power cord are colour coded: blue = neutral, brown = live, green or green & yellow = earth.
The blue wire must be connected to the terminal marked N or coloured in black.
The brown wire must be connected to the terminal marked L or coloured in red.
The green (& yellow) wire must be connected to the terminal marked E or coloured in green (& yellow).
BEFORE USE
• Thoroughly rinse all the pieces of the "Brewing System" and inside the carafe.
- Then operate the percolator twice (without tea or coffee) to remove any traces of dust or grease from inside, follow the "how to operate" instruction below.
HOW TO OPERATE
- Open the lid.
- Remove the "Brewing System" by lifting the orange knob. This will allow all of the following items to be removed together: filter bowl, distributor plate and percolator tube.
- Fill the carafe with water to the required level. The maximum water is 1.0 litre and the minimum is 0.3 litre. This is marked on the outside of the bowl. Take care not to allow water to run over the outside of the carafe, mouldings and into the electrical socket at the rear.
- Fill the filter bowl with the desired amount of loose tea, tea bags or coffee. Do not fill above the maximum line marked inside the filter bowl. See "Making perfect Tea & Coffee" guide below..
- Replace the "Brewing System" by picking up the orange knob and place it all into the bowl. Ensure that the percolator tube fits into the hole in the heating element and that the filter bowl and distributor plate are all fitted together correctly.
• The lid can now be closed.
- Attach the power cord to the percolator and then plug into the power supply.
- The "power on" light will now be illuminated and the brewing will begin.
- The brewing will take approximately 7-12 minutes depending on the amount and temperature of the water used.
- When the brewing is completed the power light will switch off and the drink is ready to serve. WARNING: This percolator makes very hot tea and coffee.
- If the drink is not required immediately the product will switch automatically to a "hold" position. This will keep the drink hot by switching the power back on for a short period every few minutes. Remember the drink will slowly evaporate and become stronger in taste the longer it is left to stand.
- Before pouring unplug from the power supply and detach the power cord. After pouring the percolator can be plugged back in the power supply to keep the drink hot. Do not switch back on if the drink level is below the 0.3 litre Min level.
WARNING: Protect the glass carafe from breaking. Do not refill with cold water until the percolator has cooled completely.
MAKING PERFECT TEA AND COFFEE
Always use fresh water taken directly from the tap.
Tea
- You can use all kinds of loose tea or tea bags (but do not leave the labels and strings inside the percolator).
- As a guide to the strength we would recommend the following quantity of tea when filled to the Max. water level (1 litre).
| Taste | Loose Tea leaves (Tsp) | Loose Tea Leaves | Tea bags. |
| Weak | 3 Level Tea spoons | (15ml) | 3 |
| Medium | 4 Level Tea spoons | (20ml) | 4 |
| Strong | 5 Level Tea spoons | (25ml) | 5 |
Coffee
• The unique percolator flavour is best made with "Coarse ground coffee".
This is often marked on the packets as: "Suitable for Cafetiere and Percolators" or "coarse ground". Alternatively your coffee supplier can grind the beans to a coarse grind suitable for percolators. If percolator coffee is unavailable "filter machine" or "medium ground" coffee may be used but some coffee may pass through the filter.
We do not recommend that "Expresso machine" or "fine ground" coffee is used.
- As a guide to the strength we would recommend the following quantity of coarse ground coffee when filled to Max.water level(1 litre).
| Taste | Coarse Ground Coffee level desert spoons (Dsp) | Coarse Ground Coffee |
| Weak | 6 | 60ml |
| Medium | 7 | 70ml |
| Strong | 8 | 80ml |
CLEANING
• Always disconnect from the power supply and allow to cool down before cleaning.
• The external glass and plastic only requires occasional cleaning with a clean damp cloth.
- The "Brewing System" may be removed and taken apart for cleaning and may be soaked in mild washing detergent.
• Never use cleaning agents or abrasives as this will damage the finish.
- The inside of the glass and the top of the heating element may be cleaned with water and a soft bristle brush (This is supplied with some models). Be very careful not to scratch the black non-stick coating on top of the heating element. Rinse thoroughly before using again.
DESCALING
-
- If you have an extremely "hard drinking water" supply, it may be necessary to descale the percolator occasionally to prevent the build up of calcium on the heating element. This calcium will reduce the performance of the product and if allowed to build up may damage the product.
- The best method is to wipe the inside of the bowl and top of the heating element clean after each use and use a soft bristle brush occasionally.
- Do not use chemical to remove the calcium. This will damage the non stick coating on the heating element.
- If the calcium does begin to appear, try this simple, safe method.
