Why can't I access the repeater's configuration page?

Make sure your computer is connected to the repeater's Wi-Fi network (e.g., TP-Link_Extender) or via an Ethernet cable. Check that IP address assignment is set to automatic. Use the default IP address 192.168.0.254 or the URL http://www.tplinkrepeater.net. If the repeater is already connected to the router, check the router's DHCP list to find the assigned IP address.

How do I reset the repeater to factory defaults?

With the repeater powered on, press and hold the RESET button for about 5 seconds until all lights briefly turn off, then release. Factory settings will be restored.

How to set up the repeater using the Tether app?

Download the TP-Link Tether app from your app store. Plug the repeater near the router. Open the app, create an account if needed, then follow the instructions to add a repeater. The app will guide you to connect it to your WiFi network.

How to set up the repeater via a web browser?

Plug the repeater into an outlet near the router. Connect your computer to the repeater's WiFi network (e.g., TP-Link_Extender) or via an Ethernet cable. Open a browser and go to http://www.tplinkrepeater.net or 192.168.0.254. Create an admin password and follow the setup wizard.

Where should I place the repeater for best coverage?

For optimal signal, plug the repeater halfway between your router and the area to cover. Ensure the signal LED indicates a good quality connection (usually green). Avoid thick obstacles like concrete walls.

Can I connect wired devices to the repeater?

Yes, the RE270K has an Ethernet port. In repeater mode, you can connect a non-WiFi device (e.g., TV, game console) to provide Internet access via the extended WiFi network. The repeater then acts as a WiFi client.

Is the WiFi password after setup the same as the router's?

Yes, by default the repeater copies the WiFi password from your router. Thus you have a single network and password. If you change the password on the router, you will need to reconfigure the repeater.

What do the repeater's indicators mean?

The Power LED indicates power status. The Signal (or WPS) LED indicates the strength of the signal received from the router: green (good), orange (weak), red (very weak), or off (no connection). Refer to the manual for more details.

Is the repeater compatible with my router?

The RE270K is compatible with most standard WiFi routers (802.11 b/g/n and ac). It can extend a 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz network, but for optimal performance, use a router that supports the same standards.

How to update the repeater's firmware?

Log in to the repeater's configuration page (via browser). Go to System Tools > Firmware Update. Download the latest firmware from the TP-Link website, then select the file and click Update. Do not power off during the update.

Method 2: Via a Web Browser

1 Plug the extender into an electrical outlet near your router and press the power button if it has one.
2 Connect your computer to the extender.

Via Wireless

Disconnect your Ethernet connection from your computer and connect to the extender's network (e.g. TP-Link_Extender or TP-Link_Extender_XXXX).

Via Ethernet Cable (If the extender has an Ethernet port)

Disable the Wi-Fi on your computer. Connect your computer to the extender via an Ethernet cable.

3 Launch a web browser and enter http://www.tplinkrepeater.net or http://192.168.0.254 in the address bar. Create a password to log in.

4 Follow the instructions on the web page to complete the initial configuration.

2 Relocate

To achieve better signal quality, plug in the extender halfway between your router and the Wi-Fi dead zone.

Connect your device to the extender using the extended SSID and Wi-Fi password that you've set during the configuration. The default Wi-Fi password is the same as your host network.

Entertainment Adapter

If your extender has an Ethernet port, it can be used as a wireless adapter to connect any Ethernet-only device such as a Blu-ray player, game console, DVR, or smart TV to your Wi-Fi network.

First, connect the extender to your router, then connect your Ethernet-only device to the extender via an Ethernet cable.

Q1 Why can't I see the login page after entering http://www.tplinkrepeater.net in the browser?

A1: Make sure your computer is connected to the extender either via the extended SSID or via an Ethernet cable (if the extender has an Ethernet port).

A2: Make sure your computer is set to obtain an IP address automatically.

A3: Use the IP address to access the extender. The default IP is 192.168.0.254. If the extender is connected to the router, you should go to your router's DHCP client list to obtain the extender's current IP address.

A4: Reset the extender and connect to its wireless network, enter http://www.tplinkrepeater.net or http://192.168.0.254 in a web browser and press Enter.

Q2 How do I reset the extender?

A: With the extender powered on, press the RESET button until the LEDs turn on momentarily, then release the button.
