How to connect the GTD720 docking station to my computer?

Plug the included power adapter into the GTD720 input port. Use the included Thunderbolt cable to connect your computer to one of the station's Thunderbolt ports. Then press the power switch on the back; the power LED lights up white.

Can I use the GTD720 with a Windows PC?

Yes, the station is compatible with any computer equipped with a Thunderbolt port (Thunderbolt 2 recommended). Setup instructions are similar to those for Mac.

How many displays can I connect simultaneously?

You can connect up to two displays: one via the Thunderbolt port and one via the HDMI port (or Mini DisplayPort). At least one display must be Thunderbolt 2 compatible. The maximum supported resolution is 4K for a single display.

Does the station charge my laptop?

No, the GTD720 does not power the computer via Thunderbolt. It requires its own power adapter. However, the front USB fast charging port can charge tablets and smartphones.

How to connect an external audio system?

Use a mini-TOSLINK cable to connect the station's optical audio output port to your active speaker system. The optical input port allows recording from an external source. Note: passive headphones require an external amplifier.

Why is my external display not detected?

Check that cables are properly connected and the display is on. Make sure your computer supports Thunderbolt 2. In System Preferences > Displays, click 'Arrangement' to enable extended or mirror mode.

Can I use a Mini DisplayPort adapter on the station?

Yes, Thunderbolt ports are backward compatible with Mini DisplayPort. You can therefore connect a Mini DisplayPort display via an adapter. Note that the station does not support HDMI and Mini DisplayPort simultaneously on the same Thunderbolt port.

How to switch between mirror and extended mode?

On macOS, open System Preferences > Displays, then click the 'Arrangement' tab. Uncheck 'Mirror Displays' for extended mode, or check it for mirror mode. On Windows, display settings are in Control Panel or Settings.

What to do if the power LED does not light up?

Check that the power adapter is properly connected to the station and to a working wall outlet. Make sure the power switch on the back is pressed. If the problem persists, contact IOGEAR support.

Hardware Installation

1. Plug the included AC power adapter into the DC-In port of the GTD720.

1. Using the included Thunderbolt cable, connect your Thunderbolt enabled Mac or PC to one of the Thunderbolt ports of the GTD720.

1. Press the Power Switch on the back of the docking station. The Power-On indicator will light up "white" when docking station is powered on.

1. Connect a mini digital optical (mini TOSLINK) audio cable for an external active speaker system. The Line-Out port supports optical signal for higher quality sound playback.*
2. Connect a mini digital optical (mini TOSLINK) audio cable for recording. The Optical Audio Line-In port supports optical signal for higher quality sound editing.*
3. Connect any USB compatible devices here. This USB port is compatible with USB 3.0, 2.0 and 1.1 devices.
4. Dedicated fast USB charging port to fast-charge tablets or smartphones.

*Note about Audio Line-in/Line-out: Audio Line-in/Line-out ports only support optical or self-powered sound devices (Ex. active speakers or mini sound system). To use passive headphones on the dock, please use an additional digital headphone amplifier.

**Note about dual displays: At least one display has to be Thunderbolt or Thunderbolt 2 technology-ready. For displays that are not Thunderbolt technology-ready, the Thunderbolt port is backwards compatible with Mini DisplayPort. The dock supports either HDMI or Mini DisplayPort, but not both. The dock supports only one display at 4K cinema resolution.
