2EN 6 Using the induction hob Cooking on an induction hob is different from cooking on a traditional appliance. Induction cooking makes use of a magnetic field to generate heat. Induction cooking is fast To start you will be surprised by the speed of induction cooking. Especially at higher settings, foods and liquids will boil very rapidly. It is best not to leave pans unattended to avoid them boiling over or boiling dry. The power level adjusts itself In induction cooking, only the zone on which the pan is placed is used. If you use a small pan on a large zone, the power will be adjusted to the diameter of the pan. The power will thus be lower and it will take longer before the food in the pan comes to the boil. Clean The hob is easy to clean. Because the cooking zones do not get any hotter than the pans themselves, food spills cannot burn on. Safe The heat is generated in the pan itself. The glass top does not get any warmer than the pan. This means that the cooking zone is considerable cooler compared to that from a Ceramic hob or a gasburner. Once a pan has been taken away, the cooking zone cools down quickly. Please note
- Grains of grit may cause scratches which cannot be removed. Only put pans with a clean base on the cooking surface and always pick pans up to move them.
- Do not use the hob as a worktop.
- To avoid energy loss, always keep the lid on the pan when cooking. FIRST USEEN 7 Pans for induction cooking Induction cooking requires a particular quality of pan. Please note
- Pans that have already been used for cooking on a gas hob are no longer suitable for use on an induction hob.
- Only use pans that are suitable for electric and induction cooking with: ▷ a thick base of a minimum 2.25 mm; ▷ a flat base.
- The best pans are those with the ‘Class Induction’ quality mark. Tip You can use a magnet to check whether your pans are suitable. A pan is suitable if the base of the pan is attracted by the magnet. Suitable Unsuitable Special stainless steel pans Earthenware Class Induction Stainless steel Solid enamelled pans Porcelain Enamelled cast-iron pans Copper Plastic Aluminium Please note Be careful with enamelled sheet-steel pans:
- the enamel may come loose from the steel at high settings when the pan is too dry;
- high power level settings may cause the base of the pan to warp. Please note Never use pans with a misshapen base. A hollow or rounded base can interfere with the operation of the overheating protection, causing the appliance to become too hot. This may lead to the glass top cracking and the pan base melting. Damage caused by using unsuitable pans or boiling dry is excluded from the guarantee. FIRST USEEN 8 Minimum pan diameter The diameter of a pan must be at least 12 cm. The best results are achieved by using a pan with the same diameter as the cooking zone. If a pan is too small the zone will not work. Pressure cookers Induction cooking is very suitable for pressure cookers. The fast- reacting cooking zone brings the pressure cooker to pressure quickly. As soon as you switch a cooking zone off, the cooking process stops immediately. Please note Never leave an empty pan on a cooking zone that is switched on. While the cooking zone is protected from overheating, the pan will be extremely hot. The pan could become damaged. Switching of the power A feature of this induction hob is the ‘switching’ of the power with settings lower than 8. It seems as if a cooking zone switches on and off, but that is not the case. The zone switches the power on and off continuously; the zone remains on and at the indicated setting. The two small zones switch to a lesser degree than the two large zones. Please note This switching is normal for this induction hob and cannot do any damage. It is not a defect of your induction hob. Induction noises A ticking sound This is caused by the capacity limiter on the front and back zones. Ticking can also occur at lower settings. Pans are making noise Pans can make some noise during cooking. This is caused by the energy flowing from the hob to the saucepan. At high settings this is perfectly normal for some pans. It will not damage either the pans or the hob. FIRST USEEN 9 The fan is making noise To enlarge the lifespan of the electronics, the appliance is equiped with a fan. If you use the appliance intense, the fan is activated to cool down the appliance and you will hear a buzzing sound. The fan runs on for several minutes after the hob has been switched off. Cooking settings Because the settings depend on the quantity and composition of the contents of the pan, the table below is intended as a guideline only. Use ‘boost’ setting and setting 9 to:
- bring food or liquid to the boil quickly;
- bring a pressure cooker up to pressure. Use setting 8 to:
- fry boiled potatoes;
- deep frying. Use setting 7 to:
- fry thick slices of breaded meat;
- fry breaded fish. Use setting 5 and 6 to:
- defrost hard vegetables;
- fry thin slices of meat. FIRST USEEN 10 Use settings 1-4 to:
- melt cheese. Temperature safety A sensor continuously measures the temperature of certain parts of the hob. Every cooking zone is equipped with a sensor that measures the temperature of the bottom of the pan to avoid any risk of overheating when a pan boils dry. In case of temperatures rising too high, the power is reduced or switched off automatically. Cooking-time limiter The cooking-time limiter is a safety function of your cooking appliance. It will operate if you forget to switch off your hob. Depending on the setting you have chosen, the cooking time will be limited as follows: Setting The cooking zone switches automatically off after: 1 8 hours 2 6 hours
FIRST USEEN 11 Switching on and selecting power The four cooking zones on the glass work surface are indicated with circles. The diameter of the pan bottom must be as similar to the diameter of the cooking zone as possible. A symbol next to the control panel indicates which cooking zone is being operated. Switching on

OPERATIONEN 14 Timer/Cooking timer A cooking timer can be set for each cooking zone. The hob also has a timer. Both the cooking timer as well as the timer can be set to a maximum of 99 minutes. The timer works in the same way as the cooking timer, but is not linked to a cooking zone. If the timer has been set, it will continue counting down after the hob has been switched off. The timer can only be switched off when the hob has been switched on.
- Timer – the timer only beeps after the set time has elapsed.
- Cooking timer – the timer is linked to a cooking zone. After the set time has elapsed, the cooking zone will switch off automatically. Timer When the hob has been switched on, you can set the timer.
1. Press the On/Off button.
2. Press the – and + buttons simultaneously.
The time setting ‘0 0’ is displayed in the top two displays. The bottom two displays have been switched off.
3. Press the - or + button to set the desired time.
▷ When you first press the - button, the time will immediately be set to 30 minutes. ▷ If you keep the - or + button pressed, the time will run higher or lower at an increasingly faster rate. The time setting is visible for a few seconds; then two flashing decimal points indicate that the timer is counting down.
4. After the set time has elapsed, ‘0 0' will flash in the display.
Furthermore, you will hear a repeated short beep. Switch off the timer and beep signal by pressing a random button. If you don't do this, the signal will switch off automatically after 2 minutes. Note! The timer can also be set if the cooking zones are switched on and even if cooking timers have been set. If this is the case, the display will indicate the power setting (and not the two flashing decimal points). OPERATIONEN 15 Cooking timer When the hob is switched on, you can set a separate timer for each cooking zone that is switched on.
1. Select a cooking zone that is switched on.
2. Press the – and + buttons simultaneously.
The time setting ‘0 0’ of the activated cooking zone is displayed in the top two displays. At the cooking zone itself, a flashing decimal point indicates that the timer can be set for that cooking zone.
3. Press the - or + button to set the desired time.
▷ When you first press the - button, the time will immediately be set to 30 minutes. ▷ If you keep the - or + button pressed, the time will run higher or lower at an increasingly faster rate. The time setting is visible for a few seconds; then all set power levels are displayed, and at the cooking zone for which a timer has been set, a decimal point is displayed.
4. After the set time has elapsed, ‘0 0' will flash in the display, as
well as the timer's decimal point. The cooking zone switches off. Furthermore, you will hear a repeated short beep. Press any key to switch off the audible signal. If you don't do this, the signal will switch off automatically after 2 minutes. Note! If no cooking zone has been activated and you press the - and + buttons simultaneously, the time setting of the timer is displayed (no decimal points will flash at a cooking zone)! By again pressing the - and + buttons simultaneously (multiple times), the time setting of a cooking zone that is switched on is displayed (the decimal point flashes at the relevant cooking zone). Tip Check the remaining time by pressing the - and + buttons simultaneously (multiple times). The time that appears in the display is either from the cooking zone that is switched on (with flashing decimal point) or from the timer (no decimal point flashes). Adjust the cooking time as needed using the – or + button. OPERATIONEN 16 Cleaning Tip Activate the child lock before cleaning the hob. Daily cleaning
- Although food spills cannot burn into the glass, we nevertheless recommend you clean the hob immediately after use.
- For daily cleaning a damp cloth with a mild cleaning agent is best.
- Dry off with kitchen paper or a dry tea towel. Stubborn stains
- Stubborn stains can also be removed with a mild cleaning agent, washing-up liquid, for example.
- Special products are available for this purpose.
- Traces of metals (caused by sliding pans) can be difficult to remove. Special products are available for this.
- Use a glass scraper to remove food spills. Melted plastic and sugar is also best removed with a glass scraper. Never use
- Never use abrasives. These leave scratches in which dirt and limescale can accumulate.
- Never use anything sharp such as steel wool or scourers. MAINTENANCEEN 17 General If you notice a crack in the glass top (however small), switch the hob off immediately, unplug the hob, turn off the (automatic) fuse switch(es) in the meter cupboard or, in the event of a permanent connection, set the switch in the power supply lead to zero. Contact the service department. Troubleshooting table When in doubt on the proper operation of your appliance, this does not automatically mean there is a defect. Try to address the problem yourself first by checking the points mentioned below or for more information visit the ‘www.pelgrimservice.nl’ website. Symptom Possible cause Solution The fan runs on for several minutes after the hob has been switched off. The hob is cooling down. Normal operation. A slight smell is noticeable the first few times the hob is used. The new appliance is heating up. This is normal and will disappear once it has been used a few times. Ventilate the kitchen. You can hear a ticking sound in your hob. Ticking can also occur at lower settings. Normal operation. The pans make a noise while cooking. This is caused by the energy flowing from the hob to the saucepan. At high settings this is perfectly normal for some pans. It will not damage either the pans or the hob. You have switched a cooking zone on but the display keeps flashing. A pan detection symbol (U) will appear in the display. The pan you are using is not suitable for induction cooking or has a diameter that is too small. Use a correct pan. When cooking, its seems as if the zone continuously goes on and off (the contents of the pan boil, stop boiling, return to the boil, etc). This is the ‘switching’ of the power: the cooking zone is on, but the power switches on and off. Normal operation; this is a feature of this induction hob (see ‘Switching of the power’). TROUBLESHOOTINGEN 18 TROUBLESHOOTING Symptom Possible cause Solution A cooking zone suddenly stops working and you hear a signal. The preset time has ended. Switch off the signal by pushing a random key. The hob is not working and nothing appears in the display. There is no power supply due to a defective cable or a faulty connection. Check the fuses or the electric switch (if there is no plug). A fuse blows as soon as the hob is switched on. The appliance is incorrectly connected. Check the electrical connections. Error code ER03. The control panel is dirty or has water on it. Clean the control panel. You held a key too long. Do not hold the button too long. Error code E3. Unsuitable pan used. Use a pan suitable for induction cooking. Error code E2. Appliance over heated. The appliance has been switched off because of over heating. Error code E6. The appliance has been connected incorrectly and/or the mains voltage is too high. Have your connection changed. Other error code. Defective generator. Contact the service department.EN 19 First, read the separate safety instructions before installing the device! Placing
