Intended Use

This device is used for

• The reception of radio programmes
- Playing back audio/MP3 CDs
• Sound reproduction of external audio sources.

It is intended exclusively for this purpose and may only be used as such.

It may only be used in the manner described in these instructions for use. The device must not be used for commercial purposes.

Any other use of this device is considered to be contrary to the intended use and may result in damage to materials or even personal injury.

The firm ETV – Elektro-Technische Vertriebsgesellschaft mbH does not accept any liability for damage caused as a result of the use of this device contrary to its intended use.

Start-up of the device/Introduction

  • Read the operating instructions thoroughly before the start-up!
  • Select a suitable location for the device and for the loud-speakers. A dry, flat, non-slip surface on which the device can be easily operated.
    • Make sure that the device is adequately ventilated!
  • Connect the speakers on the back to the terminals "R and L".
  • Remove the protective film from the display if it is still present.

Power Supply

  • Insert the plug into a properly installed power socket.
  • Please ensure that the mains voltage corresponds to the information on the type plate.

Batteries of remote control (Batteries not included)

  • Open the cover of the battery compartment on the rear side of the remote control.
  • Insert 2 x R03 "AAA" 1.5 V batteries. Please observe correct polarity (see bottom of battery compartment)!
  • If you do not use the remote control for a longer period of time, please remove the batteries in order to avoid "leakage" of battery acid.

CAUTION:

  • Different battery types or new and used batteries must not be used together.
  • Do not dispose of batteries with your household trash. Please hand over at authorized collection points or return to your dealer.

WARNING:

Do not expose batteries to heat or direct sunlight. Never throw batteries into fire. Danger of explosion!

Setting the Time (in standby)

  • Hold down the MEMORY/VIDEO SELECT button (12 on the remote control) for ca. 2 seconds. The hour display will start to blink.
  • Set the hours with the ▶/▲ button (5 on the remote control).
  • Push the MEMORY/VIDEO SELECT button to save the entry. The minute display will start to blink.
  • Set the minutes with the ▶/▲ button.
  • Confirm your entry again with the MEMORY/VIDEO SELECT button. The time of day is saved.

i NOTE:

Storage/display of the time is lost as soon as the electricity supply is interrupted.

CD deck transport protection

- Please open the CD compartment (1) by pressing the ▲ PUSH button (3).

- Remove the transport protection from the CD player if present before use.

iPod/iPhone Compatibility

Due to the large variety of iPod and iPhone models and generations on the market, full compatibility cannot be guaranteed. Before connecting your iPod/iPhone, ensure that it has a compatible interface.

Full compatibility of the remote functions also cannot be guaranteed. Operate your iPod/iPhone as normal, while it sits in the docking station.

i NOTE:

Depending on the software version of your iPhone the following error message may be displayed: "This accessory was not developed for iPhone use. It is possible that noise occurs and signal strength is reduced." In this case press "OK".

General Operation

i NOTE:

Some buttons are to be found both on the device itself and on the remote control. Buttons with the same designation have the same function.

Turning the unit on/off

  • Press the Ⓧ STANDBY button (12/22), to turn the unit on. The device starts in the most recently activated mode (LINE IN, IPOD, CD, USB or radio).
  • Press the ⬤STANDBY button again to turn the unit off. The control lamp (13) lights up and the time are shown on the display.

Volume

You can set the desired volume with the VOLUME control (10) or the VOL+/VOL- buttons (17 on the remote control).

i NOTE:

The volume control (10) is a pushbutton switch. Turn the pushbutton switch until you can hear a 'clicking noise' and the readout VOL appears in the display. Hold it at the relevant direction of rotation until the desired volume has been set.

MUTE (1 on the remote control)

Quickly turn off the sound. The indication "MUTE" appears in the display. To cancel this function, press MUTE again.

EQ (13 on the remote control)

(Preset equalizer function). There are different sound modes available (FLAT, CLASSIC, ROCK, POP, JAZZ).

NOTE: During iPod/iPhone playback

If necessary, you can change the EQ settings of your iPod/iPhone in order to achieve optimum sound.

Setting the sleep timer

When the sleep timer has been set, the unit is switched off after a preset time. Press the SLEEP button (14 on the remote control) to activate the sleep timer. By repeatedly pressing the SLEEP button, the off time can be set as 90, 80, 70, 60, 50, 40, 30, 20, 10 minutes. To turn off the sleep timer, press the SLEEP button until the symbol "SL" on the display goes out. "SLEEP OFF" appears in the display for a short amount of time.

Restore factory settings

All settings that you performed will be lost in the process.

- Keep the ■STOP/AUTO button (6/9) held down until "rE\$ethown on the display. The device will switch to operational readiness after the reset.

Listening to the Radio

Find stations

  1. Press the → SOURCE button (11/8), until FM shows in the display.
  2. Use the buttons TUN+ (6 on the remote control) and TUN- (18 on the remote control) to tune to the desired station. When you hold down either button, the unit tunes to the next radio station. The display shows the tuned frequency.
  3. In case the reception is too weak and if the received station has atmospheric noise, you will have the following possibilities:
    a) Switch the device to Mono operation. Press the ST/MONO button (11 on the remote control) to do so. The indication "St - OFF" will be shown in the display for a short amount of time.
    b) Try to improve the reception through a position change or through coiling in and out of the antenna.

Save radio stations

The unit can store up to 20 radio stations. To store a station, proceed as follows:

  1. Find a station as described in "Find stations".
  2. Press the MEMORY/VIDEO SELECT button (12 on the remote control). The display starts flashing.
  3. Use the buttons ▶▶▶ and ◀(○) on the remote control) to select the memory where the station is to be stored.
  4. Press the MEMORY/VIDEO SELECT button again. The station is stored and the display stops flashing.

Call a stored radio station

  • You can call the stored radio stations with the number buttons (2 on the remote control). For stored radio stations above 10, first press the 10+ button.
  • Alternatively, you can also use the buttons ▶▶▶ and ◀◀◀◀ (5 on the remote control).

Automatic scanning

Push the STOP/AUTO button (9 on the remote control). With this, the entire frequency range is scanned automatically for stations. The stations found by scanning are stored in ascending order in the memory locations 1 to 20.

i NOTE:

The sequence cannot be changed afterwards.

Music Playback from iPod/iPhone

(iPod/iPhone not supplied)

  1. Press the → SOURCE button (11/8) repeatedly, until "IPod" appears in the display.
  2. Insert your iPod/iPhone into the dock.

CAUTION:

Make sure that your iPod/iPhone is plugged upright into the port. Do not bend or tilt the iPod/iPhone whilst it is plugged into the port. This may cause damage to the dock or the iPod/iPhone.

  1. Depending on the iPod/iPhone Model, firstly release the button lock and start playing music if necessary with the ▶ II button (7/7).
  2. Follow your iPod/iPhone manual for further use of the controls.

△ CAUTION:

Stop playback before connecting the iPod/iPhone, otherwise the iPod/iPhone could become damaged.

i NOTE:

  • If necessary, you can change the audio settings of your iPod/iPhone in order to achieve optimum sound.
  • If you have an incoming call when playing back music with the iPhone docked, then playback stops and you can hear the ring tone. Take the iPhone out of the device in order to accept the call.

iPod/iPhone Charging

Your iPod/iPhone battery is charged as soon as the iPod/ iPhone is docked. To do this, the unit must be connected to the mains.

i NOTE:

  • Not all iPod/iPhone generations support the charge mode.
  • The duration of the charging process depends on the iPod/iPhone which is used and its operating condition.

Playing CDs/MP3

This is how you play a CD

  1. Press the → SOURCE button (11/8) until CD shows in the display.
  2. In order to open the CD compartment (1), press the ▲ PUSH button (3).
  3. Insert an audio CD with the printed side facing upwards on to the central cone so that the CD clicks into place and then close the lid of the CD compartment. The message "Cd rEAd" will be shown on the display for a short time.
  4. The CD will play from the first title. The track currently being played ▶ or ▶MP3 are shown in the display.
  5. In order to remove a CD, please press the ☑TOP/AUTO button (6/9), open the CD compartment and lift the CD out carefully.

Always keep the CD deck closed.

i NOTE:

  • When a disc is inserted upside down or when no disc is inserted, "NO dISC" (no disc) is shown on the display.
  • Playback of CDs produced by the user cannot be guaranteed due to the large variety of software and CD media available.

Description of the CD buttons

▶ II(7/7)

You can briefly interrupt and resume playback using this button. The symbol "II" will appear on the display and the elapsed playing time will blink. Pressing again continues playback.

(5 on the remote control)

During music playback:

With ▶▶▶▶you can jump to the next or previous track etc.

- If the button is kept pressed down, the machine starts to search through the tracks. (The sound is thereby set to mute.)

The ◀◀◀◀ button can be used as follows:

Press once = This starts the current track again from the beginning.

Press twice = This jumps back to the previous track.

Press three times = This plays the song before etc. If the button is kept pressed down, the machine starts to search through the tracks. (The sound is thereby set to mute.)

■ STOP (6/9)

The music playback is stopped. If an audio CD is inserted, the overall number of songs and the playback time of the CD are now displayed. In case of an MP3 CD or USB storage medium, the number of folders and the overall number of songs will be displayed.

In Radio mode:

Press this button to start automatic station scanning. Important: The stations that you stored previously are overwritten.

REPEAT (15 on the remote control)

In case of a playing Audio CD:

Press once = (REP emits a fixed light) the current track is repeated continuously.

Press twice = (REP ALL all emits a fixed light) the whole CD is played continuously.

Press three times = All functions are cancelled. The normal play mode is resumed.

Only with MP3 music playback:

Press once = The current track is repeated continuously (REP appears in the display).

Press twice = The current folder of the MP3 CD or of the USB storage medium is repeated continuously (REP ALB Appears in the display). You can select the individual folders with the buttons ALB+ and ALB-(4/20 on the remote control).

Press three times = The whole CD is played continuously (REP ALL appears in the display).

Press four times = The function is deactivated and the CD is played in the normal mode.

RANDOM (10 on the remote control)

The display contains the word RND and the track number that is to be played first. All tracks are played back in random order.

INTRO (16 on the remote control)

(The display shows INTRO) Each title of the CD is played for 10 seconds.

ALB+ or ALB- (4/20 on the remote control)

Press these buttons during playback to select the next folder up or down. If this button is pressed in stop mode the display also appears briefly. Then start playback with the ▶■ button (7/7).

10+ (3 on the remote control)

Serve for direct entry of a title number or radio storage space.

- Press the button once to be able to enter a two-digit number with the numerical keys. The following appears on the display “__”

- If more than 99 titles are located on the MP3 CD or on the USB storage medium, press the button twice. The three-digit entry prompt appears on the display "____".

PROG/MENU (21 on the remote control)

- Serves for the programming of a playback sequence during CD/USB operation.

- Press this button in IPOD mode to return to the previous menu.

i NOTE:

The Music app must already have been started for this.

ENTER (19 on the remote control)

In IPOD mode:

Press this button to activate a function or to display the next menu.

▲/▼ (5 on the remote control)

In IPOD mode:

Press this button to browse the iPod/iPhone menu upwards or downwards.

MEMORY/VIDEO SELECT (12 on the remote control)

• To set the time of day during standby.

- Serves to turn the VIDEO OUT connection on and off on the rear of the device.

On = The video signal is output at the connection.

Off = The video signal is only reproduced on the attached iPod/iPhone.

Programmed Play

This can be used to program any desired sequence of tracks. (Only for CD/USB operation)

  1. Press the ■ STOP/AUTO button (6/9).

  2. Press the PROG/MENU button (21 on the remote control). The notification "P01" (memory space) appears on the display and the title "00" or "000" at MP3 CD's/data file is blinking. Use the ▶▶▶/◀◀◀buttons (5 on the remote control) to select the desired track and then press the PROG/MENU button again. The display changes to memory slot P02.

i NOTE:

- You can also directly enter the titles. Press the 10+ button (3 on the remote control) instead of the >>>/<< buttons and enter the desired title with the numerical keys on the remote control.

- When the storage capacity of the titles to be programmed has been reached, the message "FLL" will appear on the display.

  1. Select the next track with the ▶▶▶/◀◀◀buttons and press the PROG/MENU button again. Repeat the procedure until all the desired tracks are selected.
  2. Press the button (7/7). The playback starts. The first selected title number is shown on the display, and the indicator or MP3 lights up.
  3. Press once the ☑TOP/AUTO button to stop the play-back while retaining the program.
  4. For a new playback, first press the button PROG/MENU and then the button ▶ II

The device automatically stops after all programmed titles have been played back. The programmed order remains in the memory until you change to the different mode, or until the CD is removed from the CD compartment, respectively, after the device has been turned off.

Deleting the programmed playback

While in Stop mode, press the PROG/MENU button and then the ■ STOP/AUTO button.

Playing back Music in MP3 Format

With this device it is possible to play back pieces of music in MP3 format. The device also supports all standard CD types: CD, CD-RW, CD-R.

This machine of is able to play MP3 CDs. Up to 200 tracks can be compressed and stored on these CDs. Your machine detects an MP3 CD automatically (the total number of tracks and MP3s appears in the display). If you would like to play one of these CDs, proceed as described under "Playing CDs/MP3". Tracks can be programmed as described under "Playing Back Programmed Tracks".

Please note:

There are a number of different recording and compression methods, as well as quality differences between CDs and selfrecorded CDs.

Further more, the music industry does not adhere to fixed standards (copy protection).

For these reasons it is possible that in rare cases there are problems with the playback of CDs and MP3 CDs. This is not a malfunction of the device.

Connection of external devices

VIDEO OUT jack (rear of the device)

If you have videos stored on your iPod, iPhone, or iPad, you can play them also via this device.

  1. Connect the video jack of your playback device via cinch cable (RCA) to the VIDEO OUT jack on the rear of the device.
  2. Turn on your playback device and select the corresponding input. Refer to the operation instructions for your playback device.
  3. Switch the device to IPOD mode as described in the section "Music Playback from the iPod/iPhone".
  4. Attach your iPod or iPhone to the docking connection and start the video app.
  5. Press the MEMORY/VIDEO SELECT button (12 on the remote control) to turn on the video output on the rear of the device.
  6. Start the video playback.

During playback of a video, the video picture on the iPod/iPhone is stopped and is shown on the playback device. The sound comes from the device speakers.

i NOTE:

  1. If no image is shown on your playback device, press the MEMORY/VIDEO SELECT button one more time. The video playback will be stopped.

  2. Start the playback of the desired video data file again.

USB Connexion (8)

This device has been developed in accordance with the latest technical developments in the USB field. Unfortunately the large number of different types of USB storagemedia on offer today makes it impossible to guarantee full compatibility with all USB storage media. For this reason there may be problems in rare cases with playing back from USBstorage media. This is not a malfunction of the device.

  1. Press the → SOURCE button (11/8) until USB shows in the display.
  2. Insert a USB storage medium directly into the corresponding connection.
  3. After a few seconds the total number of tracks appears briefly and then playback begins. The current song and the letters ▶MP3 and USB appear in the display.

For operating instructions please see the section "Playing CDs/MP3s".

CAUTION:

Before you remove the USB storage medium, use the SOURCE button to switch the unit to RADIO or CD.

LINE IN jack (9)

Connect analogue playback devices. When connecting to this jack you may also listen to the audio of other devices, such as MP3 or CD players etc., via the speakers.

  1. Please connect the external device via 3.5 mm plug jack to the LINE IN jack.

  1. Now use SOURCE button (11/8) to select LINE IN mode.
  2. You can hear the sound from the external device through the loudspeakers. You can change the volume with the VOLUME control (10) or the VOL+/VOL- buttons (17 on the remote control). The CD buttons are not active.
  3. For further functions please refer to the user manual of the external audio device.

i NOTE:

Set the volume of the external device to a proper audible level.

Cleaning and Maintenance

  • Always remove the mains plug before cleaning the machine.
  • Any marks on the surface can be wiped off with a slightly damp cloth without any additives.
