Instructions for use

Before using the appliance, please read the following instructions carefully and keep this

instruction manual for future reference. The appliance must only be used by persons familiar

with these instructions.

2. Inspection window

Positioning the unit

● Always place the microwave oven on a stable, level and heat-resistant surface, ensuring

that it is protected from any heat source or excessive humidity.

● Do not operate the appliance outdoors.

● Sufficient ventilation must be ensured at all times. Do not place any objects on the unit,

and make sure that the following minimum distances from any wall or other object are

The feet on the base of the unit must not be removed.

The unit must not be installed inside a cupboard; when positioning the unit, also ensure

that it is not placed directly underneath a cupboard or any other similar object.

Connection to the mains supply

The appliance should only be connected to an earthed socket installed in accordance with

the regulations. Make sure that the supply voltage corresponds with the voltage marked on

the rating label. This product complies with all binding CE labelling directives.

Before using for the first time

● Remove any exterior and interior packaging materials. All these materials are suitable

● Remove the protective foil completely from the stainless-steel surface areas.

● After unpacking, and every time before connecting the unit to the power supply, checkthe unit and its power cord carefully for any signs of damage. Also ensure that the door,

including the inspection window and door locks, are not damaged or bent and that it

closes firmly against the support. This is important to ensure that no microwave energy is

allowed to escape during operation. For the same reason, the entire casing as well as the

inside of the oven must be carefully checked.

Should the unit show any signs of damage, it must not be used under any circumstances

until it has been repaired by a qualified technician.

● Do not remove the protective film covering the inside of the door, nor the rubber plugs

● Before the appliance is used for the first time, let it heat up on the light-wave setting

(without activating the microwave function) for approximately 5 minutes. This will

remove the smell typically encountered when first switching on a unit of this type. A little

smoke may be emitted; this is quite normal, but ensure there is sufficient ventilation.

Note: Do not switch the unit on unless the food to be heated or cooked has been placed

inside the oven. Operating the appliance empty could result in damage to the unit.

● When heating liquids in your microwave oven, they may heat up beyond boiling-point

without visible evidence of bubbling. It is therefore important to exercise extreme

caution when handling any containers, e.g. when removing them from the oven.

The risk of such over-boiling may be reduced by placing a heat-resistant glass rod in the

container during the heating process.

● Eggs in their shells or whole hard-boiled eggs must not be heated in a microwave oven,

since they may explode even after the heating process has finished.

● Caution: it is also highly dangerous to heat up liquids or any kind of solid food items in

closed containers in the unit, since there is a real danger of explosion.

● The contents of baby bottles or glass containers with baby food must be thoroughly

stirred or shaken to ensure that the temperature is evenly distributed. To avoid painful

and dangerous scalding, always check the temperature before feeding a child.

● When heating or cooking food contained or wrapped in combustible materials such as

plastic or paper, there is a danger of those materials igniting. It is also possible that food

will dry out or even ignite if the selected cooking time is excessive. Fat or oil are also

inflammable substances. It is therefore important to supervise the appliance during

operation. Highly volatile or inflammable liquids such as concentrated alcohol must of

course not be heated up.

● Should any smoke be noticed during operation, keep the door closed to inhibit or

smother any flames. Switch the unit off immediately and remove the plug from the wall

● To prevent danger of burns, a suitable oven-cloth must always be used when removing

food items from the oven, since the utensils and cooking containers heat up not only

during light-wave operation, but also during microwave operation.

● Special food thermometers (as used in conventional baking ovens) are not suitable for

use with microwave ovens.

19Important safety instructions

● Caution: certain types of food may tend to catch fire. Do not, under any circumstances,

leave the appliance unattended when using the microwave, light-wave or combination

functions, or any of the automatic cooking programmes.

● This microwave oven is intended for the defrosting, heating and cooking of food only. No

responsibility will be accepted if damage results from improper use, or if these

instructions are not complied with.

● This appliance is not intended for use by any person (including children) with reduced

physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lacking experience and knowledge, unless

they have been given supervision or instruction concerning the use of the appliance by a

person responsible for their safety.

● Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.

● Caution: The use of the microwave oven by children without supervision must not be

permitted, unless specific and clear instructions have been given prior to use, allowing

the child not only to operate the microwave oven in a safe manner, but also to

understand the dangers resulting from improper use or non-compliance with the

● Warning because of the high temperatures that occur during operation in the

combination functions, children must not use the appliance unless they are properly

supervised by an adult.

● Do not touch the water container of the steam generator while the appliance is in use.

● Caution: the base plate is very hot during and after use. Do not touch the plate; there is

● If the water container needs to be replenished during a cooking cycle, the programme

must be stopped before it is refilled; restart the programme afterwards.

● Always switch the appliance off and remove the plug from the wall socket:

- in case of any malfunction.

● Caution: the exterior surfaces of the appliance may become hot during operation.

There is also a danger of steam being emitted through the ventilation slots, with a

consequent risk of scalding. Keep small children well away from the appliance at

● Do not allow the appliance or its power cord to touch hot surfaces or come into contact

with any heat sources. Do not let the power cord hang free, and keep it away from any

● It is important that the appliance is thoroughly cleaned at regular intervals and that any

food residues are removed. Excessive wear may otherwise be caused to the exposed

surfaces and the life expectancy of the appliance considerably reduced. In addition, its

safety and proper operation may also be affected.

● This microwave oven is intended for domestic use only and not for commercial

applications. (Class B in compliance with EN 55011:1998+A1+A2)

● Caution: any maintenance or repair work requiring the removal of any microwave

radiation protection cover represents a serious hazard to unqualified persons. This

includes the replacement of the special power cord or an interior light bulb. The unit

must not be opened, except by qualified personnel. If repairs are needed, please send the

appliance to one of our customer service departments. The address can be found in the

appendix to this manual.

20The microwave function (Group II in compliance with EN 55011:1998+A1+A2)

Electromagnetic energy is generated inside the unit, causing the molecules in the food

(mainly water molecules) to oscillate and subsequently causing the food to become hot.

Food with high water content will therefore heat up faster than relatively dry food. The heat

is generated gradually inside the food. Any utensils, container or plates used are heated up

only indirectly as a result of the food temperature.

Always use suitable kitchen utensils

● Do not place the food directly onto the base plate; always use a suitable plate or cooking

● Metal objects are to be avoided since microwaves are reflected from metal surfaces and

might not reach the food to be cooked. Any metal in the oven might also cause sparks,

resulting in possible damage.

● As a general rule, cutlery or metal containers must not be used in the microwave oven.

Some food wrappings contain aluminium foil or wires underneath a layer of paper and

are therefore also unsuitable for use with microwave appliances.

However, should the use of aluminium foil be recommended in a recipe, ensure that the

food is tightly wrapped in the foil (avoiding any air blisters). Ensure a minimum distance

of 2.5 cm between the foil and the interior walls of the oven.

● Always make sure that the cooking container or plate used does not have any metal

decoration, such as a gold rim, or colour containing metal particles. Lead crystal objects

are also not suitable. Always make sure that the cooking containers used are not hollow

in any part (e.g. in the handles). Porous materials may have absorbed water during

cleaning and are again not suitable. Cooking containers or utensils made of ‘Melamine’

plastic material absorb energy and are also unsuitable.

- Using the microwave function

- Containers made from heat-resistant glass or porcelain, however, are well suited for

use in microwave appliances.

- Plastic is suitable only if it is heat-resistant up to 140° C. Cooking bags etc. should be

punctured to release any high pressure during cooking.

Cooking containers especially designed for use with microwave ovens are available

at most kitchenware dealers.

- Containers or plates can be tested for their suitability in a microwave appliance by

placing the item (without any food) on the base plate, switching the unit on,

adjusting the microwave power setting to ‘High’, and letting the appliance operate

for approximately 20 seconds. Listen and watch carefully for crackling sounds and

sparks. Should any be observed, switch the unit off immediately. It is also important

to check the temperature of the container: a suitable container will only be

- Light-wave operation

- When using the light-wave function, any heat-resistant containers or plates suitable

for conventional ovens may be used. Do not use any plastic items with this function.

- The food to be cooked can be put directly on the rack, which slides into the guide

rails. Place the drip tray underneath the rack.

21- Using the microwave/light-wave combination

- When using the microwave/light-wave combination, the two functions are activated

alternately. The containers or plates must therefore be suitable for use in a

microwave appliance as well as being heat-resistant. Because of the relatively high

temperatures, plastic items must not be used. The rack provided with this unit is

specifically designed for use with all the functions described. Make sure that the

container or plate used does not contain any metal parts.

Using the steam generator

Before the steam generator is used for the first time, the water container and its lid should

be thoroughly cleaned in hot soapy water.

Lift out the container.

Fill the container up to its max level with clean, fresh water (do not use mineral water).

Note: the water level should be between the min and max marks. If the level is below

min, either the steam function cannot be started, or the container will need to be

replenished after a very short time. With the water level exceeding the max-mark, there

is a danger that water will reach the interior.

Replace the container lid and ensure it locks into place.

Insert the plug into a suitable wall outlet.

Place the plate containing the food to be cooked in the centre of the base plate.

Select the desired steam-cooking programme on the control panel and start the

Caution: do not open the water container during the cooking process.

If the water level falls below the min level, the programme is automatically interrupted.

A beep signal is heard and the steam-cooking symbol flashes, reminding the user to

replenish the water. However, before re-filling the container, allow the appliance to cool

down for a short time. Remove the container lid. Fill the container with water and

replace the lid before restarting the programme.

While steam-cooking is in progress, steam is emitted through the aperture on the top of

the appliance. Once steam-cooking is complete, there may still be some residual steam

left in the interior, and there is also a possibility that some hot water may have collected

22around the lower part of the door. Take special care, therefore, when opening the unit

The water collection channel should be emptied in good time to prevent it from over-

Fitting the water collection channel

Before the steam-cooking function can be used, the water container and water collection

channel must be fitted to the unit.

If the collection channel (3) is full of water, it must be emptied right away. You can

either use a dry cloth to soak up the water, or remove the channel and pour the water

away. To remove the channel, the door (1) must be fully open. Press both buttons at

once and remove the channel carefully.

To replace the channel, open the door all the way, place the three locating lugs (b) on the

channel into the three corresponding rectangular holes (a) in the bottom of the unit.

Push the channel firmly in to ensure it locks into place.

23Fitting the water container lid

Place the lid assembly (1) inside the water container (2). Ensure that the lugs (a) are

correctly positioned in the side (b) of the container. If not so positioned, the steam function

cannot be started for safety reasons, as steam might escape through the container opening.

To remove the lid from the container, press both buttons (4) on top of the lid.

General information on programming the unit

When any control button is pressed, the correct input is acknowledged by one beep

signal. Any incorrect or invalid input is indicated by a double beep.

For all programmes, cooking times of up to 95 minutes can be selected. For steam

cooking, however, a maximum cooking time of 30 minutes is available.

A programme can be either interrupted or restarted by pressing STOP.

General operating sequence

Place the food to be heated in a suitable container. Place the container on the centre of

the base plate in the oven.

- When food is heated up in the microwave, it should be covered to prevent it from

drying out. Glass or plastic covers especially designed for use with microwave

appliances are available at most kitchenware dealers.

- When using the combination or the light-wave functions, do not cover the food to be

cooked. The rack is inserted in the guide rails. The two spacing lugs should be towards

the rear wall of the compartment. The food is placed directly onto the grill rack. When

using this rack, always place the drip tray underneath.

Close the door and set the desired programme.

During operation, the interior light remains on.

If, during operation, the door is opened or STOP is pressed (e.g. to stir or turn the food

to ensure the heat is evenly distributed), the timer and programme functions are

automatically suspended and will automatically resume only after the door is closed

again and is pressed.

Press STOP twice to interrupt the programme.

Once the pre-programmed time has elapsed, a beep signal is heard and the interior light

switches off. The signal is repeated at 2-minute intervals until the door is opened or

Open the door and remove the container with the food.

To achieve an even distribution of heat through the food, the container should be set

aside for several minutes.

The cooking times generally depend on several factors.

- The microwaves penetrate the surface of the food. For larger pieces of food, a longer

cooking time is therefore needed than for the same amount of food if cut into pieces.

The food should also be evenly distributed on the plate.

- To ensure that any germs in the food are safely destroyed, the food needs to be

exposed to high temperatures for a sufficiently long period.

- As a basic rule: half the amount - half the recommended time.

double the amount - almost double the recommended time.

Once the unit has been connected to the power supply, the display will show 1:00. The clock

can be set to the 12 or 24 hour display format. While a programme is running, the present

time can be called up by pressing .

The clock must be set when the appliance is connected for the first time, and also if a power

failure has reset it.

Example: the time to be set is 15:25.

1. Press for 3 seconds. The display starts flashing.

2. Press to select the 12- or 24-hour display format.

3. Turn until the correct hour (15) is displayed.

5. Turn until the correct minutes (25) are displayed.

6. Press to confirm the input. The display now shows 15:25.

The microwave function

To programme the unit for cooking, the correct mode (microwave in this case), the required

power setting and the cooking time must be selected before the programme sequence can be

started. The power setting is selected by repeatedly pressing .

1 x 900W 100 high heating up liquids, cooking

2 x 720W 80 medium high defrosting and heating up deep-frozen dishes

3 x 540W 60 medium cooking delicate food

Example: to programme the microwave function for a cooking time of 5 minutes at

1. Press 3 times. The display shows P-60.

2. Turn until the display shows 5:00.

The light-wave function

Light-wave technology uses radiation heat to cook the food. This programme is suitable for

cooking sausages, pieces of loin, boneless cutlets or other thin pieces of meat etc. It can also

25be used to prepare hot sandwiches.

Select the desired cooking time. The power setting cannot be changed. As the meat needs to

be turned after one side is sufficiently browned, and taken out once it is done on both sides,

the whole process should be closely monitored.

Example: programming a cooking time of 30 minutes.

1. Press . The display shows 0:00.

2. Turn , until the display shows 30:00.

Microwave + light-wave

In this mode, the microwave and light-wave functions are activated alternately at different

time settings. The use of this combination mode shortens the cooking time.

The following two available combinations can be selected by pressing twice or

three times. Once the desired cooking-time has been selected, the cooking process is started

The microwave function is active for 30% of the pre-programmed time, while the light-wave

function is active for the remaining 70%.

This programme is useful for fish, potatoes or cooking ‘au gratin’.

The microwave function is active for 55% of the pre-programmed time, while the light-wave

function is active for the remaining 45%.

This programme can be used for poultry, omelettes etc.

Example: you want the Combination 2 programme to run for 25 minutes.

1. Press 3 times. The display shows Co-2.

2. Turn , until the display shows 25:00.

The steam-cooking function is suitable for cooking fish, vegetables etc.

Example: programming a cooking time of 20 minutes.

1. Press . The display shows 0:00.

If the water level falls below the min level, the appliance will automatically stop. A beep

signal is heard and the display shows ‘DEDE—’.

After the water has been replenished, press again and the programme will continue.

Automatic cooking programmes

These programmes are helpful when cooking or heating up food without having to select any

particular settings, e.g. for power or cooking time. Pre-programmed settings are used, where

only the food-type and the weight or volume need be entered. To achieve even cooking or

browning, it is important to monitor the food closely during the process and, if required, to

turn the food repeatedly. Set the programme in the following way:

1. Turn anti-clockwise to access the selection menu. Then turn in the

26appropriate direction until the symbol for the desired cooking programme flashes or

shows in the display.

2. Press to confirm the input

3. Turn to set the food weight.

4. Press to start the programme.

- Please note that the result of the automatic cooking programmes depends on the shape

and size of the food to be cooked.

- Never place the food directly onto the base plate for cooking, heating up or defrosting;

always use a suitable utensil.

- Firm or dense food types should not be cooked directly without first being defrosted.

Otherwise the outside parts will already be cooked before the inside is defrosted.

- When cooking or warming food, it should be covered to prevent it from drying out.

- Once the cooking or defrosting programme has run halfway through, turn or stir the

food to ensure that the heat is evenly distributed.

Prior to operation, the microwave can be set for up to 3 programmes to run consecutively,

e.g. the microwave function first, followed by the light-wave function before going back to

the microwave function again in order to ensure the food will still be exposed to additional

heat. The multiple-programme feature applies not only to the microwave and light-wave

functions, but can also be used with any of the combination programmes.

Example: using the microwave function first, followed by the light-wave function.

1. Programme the microwave function (without pressing ) The display shows .

Tips for defrosting food

When food is to be defrosted, it should be taken out of its packaging, placed on a suitable

plate which is then put onto the base plate.

Almost all types of food must be turned over or stirred once during the defrosting process.

Make sure you separate pieces of food that are stuck together, and rearrange them.

Smaller portions defrost more evenly and quickly than larger portions. If food is to be

defrosted in a microwave, it is therefore better to prepare it in smaller portions before initial

Allowing the food to stand for a time after defrosting is also important, as the defrosting

process continues. The table below shows the standing times for different types of food.

Food should be consumed soon after defrosting. It is not advisable to freeze it a second time.

This table gives an approximate reference only. The times and weights listed can vary.
