Frequently Asked Questions - HR1821 PHILIPS

Why is the appliance not working?
The appliance has a safety system. It only works if all components are correctly assembled and the lid is locked using the latches. Check that the strainer, drum, lid and pulp selector are properly fixed. Also ensure the power cord is plugged in.
What to do if the strainer is blocked?
Stop the appliance, clean the feeding tube and prepare a smaller quantity. Avoid inserting pieces that are too large and do not press too hard on the pusher.
The appliance makes noise, smoke or becomes very hot. What to do?
Immediately stop the appliance and unplug it. Contact an authorized Philips service center for repair. Do not use the appliance until it has been checked.
An odor appears during the first uses, is this normal?
Yes, this is completely normal. If the odor persists after several uses, check the quantities prepared and the preparation times. Stop the appliance and let it cool for 2 minutes.
The strainer touches the feeding tube or vibrates strongly during operation. What to do?
Stop the appliance and unplug it. Check that the strainer is correctly placed in the drum and that its ribs are properly fixed on the motor shaft. Inspect the strainer for any cracks or breakage.
How to clean the juicer?
Clean immediately after use. Disassemble the detachable parts and wash them in warm soapy water using a brush, then rinse. Never immerse the motor unit in water and do not put it in the dishwasher. Do not use abrasive products.
What fruits and vegetables can be used in the juicer?
Use fresh fruits and vegetables: pineapple, beetroot, celery, apples, carrots, spinach, melons, tomatoes, oranges, grapes. Fruits containing starch (bananas, papayas, avocados, figs, mangoes) are not suitable.
Why does the apple juice turn brown?
Apple juice oxidizes quickly. To slow down this process, add a few drops of lemon juice. It is advisable to drink the juice immediately after preparation to preserve its taste and nutrients.
Do I need to peel fruits before juicing?
In general, do not remove thin skins. Only peel thick skins like those of oranges, pineapples or uncooked beetroot. Remove the white pith from citrus fruits as it is bitter.
The foam separator does not seem to work. What to do?
The foam separator is integrated into the lid of the juice glass (model HR1821 only). Make sure the lid is properly placed. It allows pouring juice without foam. If the problem persists, check that the glass is correctly positioned under the spout.

Ingredients and tips

  • Use fresh fruit and vegetables; they contain more juice. Particularly suitable for processing in the juice extractor are pineapples, beetroots, celery stalks, apples, cucumbers, carrots, spinach, melons, tomatoes, oranges and grapes.
  • You don't have to remove thin peels or skins. Only thick peels, e.g. those of oranges, pineapples and uncooked beetroots need to be removed. Also remove the white pith of citrus fruits because it has a bitter taste.
  • When preparing apple juice, remember that the thickness of the apple juice depends on the kind of apple you are using. The juicier the apple, the thinner the juice. Choose a kind of apple that produces the type of juice you prefer.
  • Apple juice turns brown very quickly. You can slow down this process by adding a few drops of lemon juice.
  • Fruits that contain starch, such as bananas, papayas, avocados, figs and mangoes are not suitable for processing in the juice extractor. Use a food processor, blender or bar blender to process these fruits.
  • Leaves and leafstalks of e.g. lettuce can also be processed in the juice extractor.
  • Drink the juice immediately after you have extracted it. If it is exposed to air for some time, the juice will lose its taste and nutritional value.
