Congratulations! You are now the proud owner of a BISTRO Toaster from BODUM
. Before using the Toaster read these instructions carefully. IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS – Before operating this appliance for the first time, read all instructions. Failure to observe the instructions and safety notes may result in hazardous conditions. – After unpacking the appliance, check it for damage. If in doubt, do not use it, contact your dealer. – Keep the packaging materials (cardboard, plastic bags etc.) out of reach of children (danger of suffocation or injury). – This appliance is designed for household use only. Do not use outdoors. Do not place on or near a hot gas or electric burner, or in a heated oven. – The manufacturer rejects any liability for damage or injury caused by improper or unreasonable use. Do not use appliance for other then intended use. – This appliance is not intended for use by children or other persons without assistance or supervision, if their physi- cal, sensory or mental capabilities prevent them from using it safely. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance. – Never touch the appliance with damp or wet hands. Do not touch the mains cable or plug with wet hands. Always unplug the appliance by holding the plug, not the cord. Do not let cord hang over edge of table or counter, or touch hot surfaces. Do not operate any appliance with a dam- aged cord or plug or after the appliance malfunctions, or has been damaged in any manner. – The use of any accessory attachment, not recommended by the appliance manufacturer, may result in fire, electric shock or injury to persons. – In the case of a fault or malfunction occurring, switch the appliance off; do not attempt to repair it yourself. Have repairs to the appliance carried out only by a customer service workshop that is authorised by the manufac- turer. Failure to comply with the above safety notes can compromise the safety of the appliance. – Never attempt to exchange the mains cable of the appli- ance as special tools are required for this. To ensure continued safety of the appliance, if the cable needs to be repaired or exchanged, have this carried out exclusiv- ely by a customer service workshop authorised by the manufacturer. – Unplug from outlet when not in use and before cleaning.
iNsTRUCTioN foR UsE Never immerse the item in water: Only clean the appli- ance using a damp cloth. Remember this is an electrical appliance. – To protect against fire, electric shock and injury to persons do not immerse cord or plugs in water or other liquid. – When the appliance is plugged into the electrical socket and whilst switched on never place hands into the bread toasting slots. – Do not insert foil-covered, oversized foods or utensils into the toaster as they may involve a risk of fire or elec- tric shock. – Never insert sharp or abrasive objects into the slots, as this will cause damage. – The sides of the toaster and the areas surrounding the bread slots become very hot during use: operating the toaster should be carried out touching only the plastic button and handles. – Do not cover the appliance while it is in use. – Do not wrap the mains cord around the body of the toaster during or after use. The cord storage facility is located on the underside of the toaster. – A fire may occur if toasters are covered or touching flam- mable material, including curtains, draperies, wall, and the like, when in operation. – Do not attempt to dislodge food when toaster is plugged in. – The bread may burn, therefore do not use the toaster near or below combustible material, such as curtains. – The appliances are not intended to be operated by means of an external timer or separate remote-control system.

polARizATioN For US Customers only. This appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). To reduce the risk of electric shock, this plug will fit in appolarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully in the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electri- cian. Do not modify the plug in any way.

The surface must be dry. Keep the appliance and its mains cable out of reach of children. – Ensure that the voltage indicated on the rating plate of the appliance agrees with the mains voltage in your area. Connect the appliance only to a properly earthed power point with a minimum output of European 5A/US 8A. (Use a residual current device (RCD) or seeks the advice of an electrician.) While the appliance is in use, the mains plug must be accessible in case of an emergency. The manufacturer declines any liability for accidents caused by faulty or non existing earthing of the appliance. – If the power point is unsuitable for accommodating the plug of your appliance, have the power point changed by a licensed electrician. UsiNG foR THE fiRsT TiME – Carefully unpack the toaster and remove all of the packaging material. – Before using for the first time, to eliminate the new smell, operate the toaster without bread inside for at least 5 minutes. Ensure there is plenty of ventilation in the room. CAUTioN: This sign (hot surfaces) is placed on the top of the toaster! Be cautious of hot surfaces! Coming into contact with hot surfaces can cause burns.iNsTRUCTioN foR UsE
UsiNG THE ToAsTER – Ensure control lever (D) is raised. – Plug (K) into a suitable mains supply socket. – Insert up to two slices of bread into toasting slots (E). – Turn the variable browning setting knob (A) dial to required setting. (1=lightest, 5=darkest) – Press down control lever (D) until it locks. – Once the chosen level of browning has been reached, the toast will automatically raise ready for removal from the slots. – If the first slices are not browned sufficiently, select a higher setting (A) next time. – If you want to interrupt the toasting process, press the stop button (C) at any time to stop the toasting process. UsiNG THE dEfRosT BUTToN – When using bread straight from the freezer set the browning control to the required position and press down the control lever (D) until it locks. Press within 2 sec. the defrost button (B). The defrost light will remain on while the defrost function is in use, and toasting time will be automatically extended. Always keep an eye on the bread for any signs of burning. UsiNG THE CANCEl BUTToN – Press the stop button (C) at any time to stop the toasting process. UsiNG THE RACk – Slide the lift button (G) to lift the integrated warming rack (F). – Put the buns and croissants to warm on the rack (F). – Press down control lever (D) until it locks. UsiNG THE CoRd sToRAGE – You can store excess power cord (K) by winding around the cord storage (I) inside the base. iNsTRUCTioN foR UsE
BisTRo ClEANiNG ANd MAiNTENANCE – Always remove plug from the power outlet, before cleaning. – To clean the inside, turn toaster upside down over the sink and gently shake. – The crumb tray (H) should be emptied regularly as a build-up of crumbs could be a potential fire hazard. After toasting, allow the toaster to cool down thorough- ly, and then slide out the crumb tray (H) and empty. – Use a soft dampened cloth to wipe the outside of the toaster and dry with a soft, dry cloth. – Never use chemicals, steel wool or abrasive agents to clean the exterior of the toaster. – Do not immerse your toaster in water. – Do not use any sharp or pointed articles for cleaning the inside as this will damage the heating element. – Never put metal objects or your fingers into the toasting slots. HiNTs ANd Tips foR BETTER ToAsTiNG – For best results use bread slices of even thickness, size and freshness. Select a lower setting if: a) using stale bread (toasts more quickly than fresh bread) b) using thin bread (toasts more quickly than thick bread) – To keep items such as muffins, crumpets bagels warm slide the button to lift the rack and put the items at the top. – To achieve even browning, we suggest a minimum of 30 seconds between each toasting to allow the control to automatically reset. – Never use the toaster without bread inserted. – Do not use very thin or broken slices of bread. – Do not insert other foods that may drip during the toast- ing process. As well as making the cleaning procedure more difficult it may be a potential fire hazard.It is also very important to clean the crumb tray beforeeach use. – Do not insert (by force) foods that are too big for the slots. – Do not insert forks or other utensils into the toaster in order to remove bread, as it may damage the resistance coils of the appliance. Remove the plug from the socket and turn the appliance over, gently shaking it to remove the lodged items.
