If the control lever (lever D) of your BODUM Toaster Off does not go down, here are the possible causes and solutions:

Checks to perform:

Stuck bread in the slots: Before inserting bread, ensure that the slots (14 cm long x 3 cm wide) are empty. A piece of bread or crumb stuck will prevent the lever from lowering. Empty the crumb tray (H) by pulling it out from the bottom.
Slots too narrow: If the bread is too thick, the lever may not go down properly. This toaster has variable width slots - make sure the bread fits easily before pressing the lever.
Mechanical blockage: After prolonged use, crumbs may accumulate around the lever mechanism. Completely unplug the device, then regularly empty the crumb tray to avoid build-up.
Device in standby mode: Ensure that the device is properly plugged into a 220-240 V outlet (in Europe) and that the cord (~100 cm) is well connected. Without power, the lever may be stuck.

Tip: After each use, it is recommended to empty the crumb tray to keep the mechanism in good working condition. If the lever remains stuck after these checks, the internal locking mechanism may be defective.
