How to connect a guitar to the EVH 5150III amplifier?

Use a high-quality shielded cable and connect it to the INPUT jack on the front of the amplifier. Ensure the amp is in Standby mode or turned off when connecting.

What is the difference between the three channels of the 5150III?

The Channel 1 is a clean channel for pristine sounds. Channel 2 offers medium gain for moderate overdrive sounds. Channel 3 is a high gain channel for intense distortion. Each channel has independent gain, volume, and EQ controls.

How to use the included footswitch with the amplifier?

Connect the footswitch to the FOOTSWITCH jack on the rear of the amp before powering on. The footswitch allows selecting each channel (green, blue, red LEDs) and toggling the effects loop.

Which speaker impedance should I select?

Use the LOAD IMPEDANCE selector on the rear. With a 5150-III 412 cabinet (16 Ω), set to 16 Ω. With two cabinets (each 16 Ω), set to 8 Ω. Never operate the amp without a speaker load.

How to connect an external effect (pedal or rack)?

Use the SEND/RETURN effects loop on the rear. Connect the SEND output to the effect's input, then the effect's output to the RETURN input. The EFFECTS LOOP button on the footswitch activates/deactivates the loop.

What to do if the amplifier does not power on?

NOTE: For a cleaner sound from this channel, set the VOLUME knob to its maximum, and start with the GAIN control at a minimum setting, bringing it up to the desired level.

CHANNEL THREE—High Gain channel

J. GAIN—Pre-amp gain control. Higher settings of this knob will increase preamp distortion.

N. PRESENCE—Ultra-high frequency tone control for each of the three channels
O. POWER LAMP—Indicates amplifier is ON when illuminated.

P. POWER INPUT—Connect the included power cord in accordance with the voltage and frequency ratings listed on the rear panel of the amplifier.
Q. FUSE—Replace with same rating only.
R. POWER—Turns amp ON
S. STANDBY—Puts amp in STANDBY mode to keep tubes warm during breaks. Switch OFF when turning amp ON; wait 30 seconds, then turn switch ON. This prolongs tube life.
T. EFFECTS LOOP—Useful for obtaining maximum performance from rack-mount or pedal effects like Reverb, Delay, Chorus, etc. Connect SEND to the input of your effects unit and RETURN to the output.
U. PREAMP OUT—Connect to another amp's EFFECTS RETURN or POWER AMP IN for simultaneous multiple amp use. This output may also be used to send the preamp's signal direct to a mixer.

V. FOOTSWITCH—Connect the cable of the supplied footswitch here (See EVH FOOTSWITCH {Y} next page).
W. LOAD IMPEDANCE—Selects the output impedance of the amp (4, 8 or 16 Ohms) to match the speaker load.

NOTE: The 5150-III 412 speaker enclosure (recommended) has an impedance of 16 Ohms. When using one 5150-III 412 speaker enclosure, set the LOAD IMPEDANCE switch to "16Ω." When using two 5150-III 412 speaker enclosures, set the LOAD IMPEDANCE switch to "8Ω."

X. SPEAKER OUTPUTS—For connection to speaker cabinet(s). When using one speaker cabinet, either jack can be used. Use only a high-quality unshielded speaker cable.

NOTE: A speaker must always be plugged into one of the speaker jacks when the EVH amplifier is "ON" or damage may occur. Switch the amplifier "OFF" or to "STANDBY" while changing speaker connections or impedance settings.

Recommended Settings

Y. EVH FOOTSWITCH—The footswitch allows easy selection of any of the three channels as well as the effects loop. When illuminated, the Green, Blue, and Red channel LEDs correspond with the channel LEDs on the amplifier's front panel.

Note: The 5150-III footswitch should be connected to the amplifier prior to turning on the POWER. If the footswitch is disconnected or reconnected after power-up, the amplifier may not function correctly.
