Frequently Asked Questions - FORCE FEEDBACK JOYSTICK TRUSTMASTER

How to install the Force Feedback joystick?
Connect the 15V-1000mA AC adapter to a nearby power outlet and then to the joystick's power connector. Insert the installation CD-ROM and follow the instructions. When prompted, connect the USB cable to a free port. Windows will detect the device and complete the installation. Restart the computer after driver installation.
How to test and adjust Force Feedback effects?
Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Game Controllers (or Game Options). Select your joystick and click Properties. The 'Test' tab allows checking axes and buttons. The 'Test Forces' tab allows testing effects. Adjustments are made in the 'Overall Device Gain' (global intensity), 'Spring Gain' (elasticity), 'Damper Gain' (friction), and 'Default Spring' (default resistance) tabs.
What to do if the joystick does not work correctly in a game?
Exit the game, unplug the joystick from the computer, then plug it back in and restart the game. If using a USB hub, make sure it is powered. Also check that drivers are correctly installed and that DirectX 9 is up to date.
How to lock the rudder function (stick rotation)?
Use a flat-head screwdriver to tighten the locking screw located at the base of the joystick. This locks the stick and prevents lateral rotation. To unlock, loosen the screw.
How to configure the point-of-view button (HAT switch)?
Access the configuration menu of your flight simulation game. Assign the directions of the point-of-view button (back, left, right, etc.) to desired views. You can also program it for other actions like firing.
What are the recommended settings for force feedback?
There is no universal setting. Start with Overall Device Gain at 100%, Spring Gain at 50%, Damper Gain at 50%, and Default Spring at 25%. Adjust according to your preferences. Note that a high Default Spring reduces the sensitivity of force effects.
Does the joystick require special drivers?
Yes, drivers are provided on the CD-ROM included with the product. They are essential for force feedback. It is also recommended to install DirectX 9 from the CD-ROM or the Microsoft website.
What to do if the joystick is not recognized by Windows?
Check that the AC adapter is plugged in and the USB cable is properly connected. Try a different USB port. If the problem persists, reinstall the drivers from the CD-ROM following the installation procedure. Also ensure your operating system is compatible (Windows 98/Me/2000/XP).
How to contact Thrustmaster technical support?
Visit http://ts.thrustmaster.com and click on Technical Support. There you will find a FAQ, latest drivers, and an email contact form (registration required). You can also call the following numbers: France 0892 690 024 (0.34 €/min), Belgium 02/732 55 77, Switzerland 22 567 51 20, Canada 514-279-9911.
What is the warranty period for the joystick?
The product is warranted for 2 years from the date of purchase against any material or manufacturing defects. In case of a problem, contact technical support who will advise on the procedure. The warranty does not cover damage due to improper use, opening of the product, or normal wear.

GETTING TO KNOW YOUR JOYSTICK

Rudder control function

Your FFB Joystick features a rudder control function, which in an airplane corresponds to the pedals used by the pilot to turn the rudder, allowing the airplane to pivot around its vertical axis. This rudder control function is accessible on your joystick by twisting the handle to the left or to the right. If you do not want to use the rudder function, you can stop the handle from twisting by using the locking screw located at the base of the handle. Use a flathead screwdriver to change its position and thus lock/unlock the handle's twisting feature.

Throttle

Your FFB Joystick features a throttle slider (2) which you can use to easily control your airplane's acceleration.

Point Of View button

Your FFB Joystick features a Point Of View button (1) which, as its name indicates, allows you to instantly view everything that is going on around your airplane. To use this feature, simply go into your game's setup menu and program the different views (rear view, view to the left, view to the right, and also the external views) onto the directions of the Point Of View button.

Of course, you can also reserve the Point Of View button for other uses (firing, etc.).
