Frequently Asked Questions - CARDBUS FAST-ETHERNET CARD 10-100MB VIVANCO

Which operating systems are compatible with this network card?
The card is compatible with Windows 98/ME/2000/XP. Drivers are usually detected automatically. For other systems, check driver availability on the Vivanco website.
How do I install the card in my laptop?
Insert the card into a free CardBus Type II slot, LEDs facing up. Push all the way in. Windows will detect the new hardware and install the drivers automatically.
What do the LEDs on the card mean?
The 10M LED lights solid green when a 10 Mbps connection is established. The 100M LED lights solid green for a 100 Mbps connection and blinks during network activity.
Can I use this card with a 10 Mbps only network?
Yes, the card is backward compatible with 10BASE-T networks. It automatically negotiates the highest available speed.
The card is not recognized by Windows, what should I do?
Make sure the card is properly inserted. Try removing and reinserting it. If the problem persists, download the drivers from the Vivanco website or use the provided installation CD.
What type of network cable should I use?
For 10BASE-T, use a UTP Category 3, 4, or 5 cable (2 pairs). For 100BASE-TX, use a UTP Category 5 cable (2 pairs). A standard straight-through cable is sufficient.
The 100M LED does not light up, why?
This means the connection is established at 10 Mbps or there is no link. Check that the cable is properly connected and that the network device (switch, router) supports 100BASE-TX.
Can I hot-remove the card?
Yes, CardBus cards support hot removal. Use the 'Safely Remove Hardware' feature in Windows before extracting it.
What is the power consumption of the card?
The card is powered by the CardBus bus and consumes less than 1 watt, which is negligible for your laptop's battery life.
Where can I find drivers for Windows 10?
Since this card is old, it is not officially supported under Windows 10. You can try Windows XP drivers in compatibility mode, but it may not work. Check the Vivanco website for possible updates.
