Safety instructions

About these instructions
Read these instructions carefully before use. Note the warnings on the appliance and in the operating instructions.
Always keep the operating instructions close to hand. If you sell the appliance or give it away, please ensure that you also pass on these instructions.
Keep electrical equipment out of reach of children
Children are not aware of the dangers posed by electrical equipment. Therefore, do not store the blood pressure measuring device where children can find it.
The appliance is battery-operated. Batteries may endanger life if swallowed. Therefore, you should keep the batteries out of reach of children. If a battery is swallowed, please obtain immediate medical assistance.
Using the appliance up safely
The appliance is suitable for healthy adults. Use the appliance for comparative measurements, particularly during sporting activities. Do NOT use the appliance for medical diagnosis. It can not replace medical intervention.
- Do not drop the appliance and do not place objects on top of it.
- Never immerse the appliance in water. Do not expose it to water, moisture or very high humid environments.
- Do not use the appliance under extreme temperature conditions.
- Do not expose the appliance to direct sunlight.
- Never try to open and/or repair the appliance yourself. To avoid risks, repairs may only be undertaken by our Service Centre or other appropriate specialist workshop.
- Only start inflating ( START button) once the appliance is attached correctly to the arm.
- Do not bend the fixed part of the sleeve!
- If the appliance is stored near to freezing point, first leave it for at least 30 minutes to warm up to room temperature before use.
Have a doctor diagnose your measurements
After you take your measurements, a doctor should interpret the values and diagnose them. The doctor will tell you which blood pressure level is normal for you, and which peculiarities you should report if they occur.
Do not implement any therapeutic measures without having spoken to a doctor first.

NEVER take any medication as a result of the measured values without asking a doctor for advice!
Attention is advised for the following types of person:
Persons with high blood pressure, diabetes, liver disease, hardened arteries, irregular heartbeat, poor circulation and so on.
About this appliance
The appliance is used to measure blood pressure at the wrist. It is suitable for healthy people above 12 years of age and can be used to make comparative measurements – especially during sporting activities.

If the values obtained give you cause to be concerned about your health, take medical advice. Do not change your treatment or dosage of medication as a result of the values unless you have discussed this with your doctor!
When interpreting the values measured, please note that there can be differences in the values measured at the wrist and arm. However, because the values measured at the upper arm and wrist undergo the same changes the values measured at the wrist can be used for comparative measurements.
The blood pressure measurement device displays blood pressure (systolic and diastolic values), pulse, date and time. The following summary can help you to assess the values you measure:
| Range | Systolic | Diastolic |
| High blood pressure | > 140 mmHg | > 90 mmHg |
| Borderline | 130 - 139 mm Hg | 85 - 89 mm Hg |
| Normal | > 129 mm Hg | < 84 mm Hg |
| Low blood pressure | < 90 mmHg | < 50 mm Hg |
The classification of blood pressure values is based on a definition and classification by the WORLD HEALTH ORGANISATION from 1999. The WHO defines high blood pressure as values above 140mmHg (systolic value) and 90mmHg (diastolic value).
Inserting batteries
You need two 1.5V batteries, AAA, LR03 (alkaline).
- Open the battery compartment by sliding the cover downwards (1) and then folding it out.
- Insert the upper battery into the compartment with the negative pole facing inwards, the lower battery with the positive pole facing inwards (2).

- Close the battery compartment.
You will need to replace the battery if the battery symbol appears on the display, or if the display remains blank after you have pressed the
START button.

If you want the appliance to start inflating after replacing the batteries, press START immediately.
The display

- Date
- Time

- Unit of measure
- Symbols for inflation and deflation
Setting the date and time
You set the date and time using the and M buttons:
- When the appliance is switched off (display is blank) press the button. The month flashes.
- Press M repeatedly or for a longer time to set the month.
- Press . The day flashes.
- Press M repeatedly or for a longer time to set the day.
- Press . The year flashes.

- Press M to set the hours.

- Press . The minutes flash.
- Press M to set the minutes.
- Press . Date and time have been set. OFF appears briefly on the display before the appliance turns itself off.

Notes on correct measurement
- Always measure your blood pressure at home and the same time each day.
- You should pass on the values you measure to your doctor for analysis.
- Blood pressure measured at the wrist can vary from that measured at the upper arm. The values may be slightly different because of the different measurement positions and the strength of the blood vessels in the wrist and upper arm. In many cases, the difference for healthy people can be ± 10 mmHg of the systolic and diastolic blood pressure.
- Do not take a measure within 30 minutes of physical activity or a change in the ambient temperature (e.g. after a bath).
- The wrist sleeve should be attached to the left wrist. If it is not possible to take a measurement on the left wrist, use the right wrist. In this case, attach the sleeve with the Velcro fastening facing outwards.
Attaching the wrist sleeve
- Attach the wrist sleeve in such a way that it is approx. 5 - 10mm away from the palm of your left hand. Ensure that no articles of clothing are trapped in the sleeve.
- Pull tight and wrap the sleeve around and up, so that there is no gap between the sleeve and your wrist.
- Use your thumb to hold the sleeve cover while you wrap it round.
- Wrap the sleeve to fit the form of the wrist and fasten the Velcro fastening. If the sleeve is not firmly attached the pressure will increase and the wrist will become numb.

Correct measurement is then no longer possible.
Carrying out measurements
To measure your blood pressure, sit comfortably and upright on a chair, take 5 or 6 deep breaths and relax.
- Sit upright. Place your elbow on the table or other supporting surface, and hold your arm so that the wrist sleeve is at heart height. In doing so, support your lower arm on the storage case or on a folded towel or similar.

If the blood pressure
measuring device is not at the same level as your heart, the measurements may be incorrect.
- Press the START button. All indicators are displayed for a few seconds on the screen; then the screen shows the time and the most recently selected memory space.
Measurement starts automatically; the appliance inflates the sleeve. If the
sleeve pressure is too low, the appliance stops measuring and inflates the sleeve again until sufficient sleeve pressure is reached for the measurement.
- Measurement starts when the correct sleeve pressure has been reached. Initially, the display only shows the systolic value. The values then fall until the actual values have been determined.
During measurement, do not move the sleeve or your arm or hand muscles.

If you want to stop the measurement, press START button. The sleeve deflates.
If you want to repeat a measurement, you should wait at least five minutes. The sleeve must be fully deflated.
- The sleeve deflates when the measurement is complete. The systolic and diastolic blood pressure and the pulse with the pulse symbol appear on the display.
- To switch off the appliance, press START/ STOP again.

Every measurement is stored automatically (it is not necessary to press a button to store the values during measurement).
Displaying memory values
The appliance can store 90 values. The least measurement is memory value ^ ; the existing measurements are displayed (memory value ^ becomes memory value ^ etc.).
- RUG ("average"): With the appliance switched off, press M. The memory number f displays the average values of all measurements in the memory (1).

- Press M repeatedly to display all the stored memory values one after the other(2).
- Then switch of the appliance by pressing START.
Deleting memory values
To delete all the memory values, press the M button and keep it pressed until CLR ("Clear") appears on the display.

Errors
If an error message is displayed, repeat the measurement later in calm conditions.
If an error message is displayed a second time even though the sleeve is attached correctly and the measurements were started correctly, please inform our Customer Service of the problem. Do not attempt to repair the appliance yourself.
Meaning of the error messages
ERR 7: Appliance cannot identify pulse.
ERR:/Cannot create air pressure in sleeve.
ERR 2: Appliance cannot determine systolic value.
ERR 3: Air pressure in sleeve too high.
ERR 4: Diastolic value cannot be measured.
ERR 5: Deflation too fast.
ERR 6: Deflation too slow.
ERR 7: Systolic value outside measurable range
ERR B: Fluctuating air pressure.
ERR 9: Air pressure in sleeve insufficient.

Cleaning and care
Notes on maintenance
It is recommended that you check the usability of the appliance every three years or after repairs.
According to the "Operating Regulations for Medical Products" a technical measurement check must take place every 2 years if the appliance is used for commercial purposes.
Cleaning/storage
Do not clean the appliance with solvents that contain alcohol. Only use a soft cloth, which may be moistened, and a mild cleaning agent. Then dry the appliance carefully.
Store and transport the appliance in the storage box supplied.
Do not bend the preshaped sleeve outwards. The sleeve should neither be washed nor dry cleaned.
If the appliance is not going to be used for long periods, remove the batteries.
Faults
| Faults | Possible cause |
| The display remains blank | Are the batteries inserted correctly? Do the batteries still have sufficient power? |
| The battery symbol is displayed. | The batteries are almost dead. The ambient temperature is too low. |
| The batteries need to be replaced unexpectedly often. | Use alkaline batteries. |
| No values displayed after measurement. | The batteries are almost dead. |
| The displayed values deviate considerably from the usual values. | Did you take the measurement under the conditions described in the instructions? Repeat the measurement in a few minutes under calm conditions. |
| The display turns off. | Usual appliance function after 2-3 minutes. |
| The appliance inflates several times before displaying the values. | This is normal if the sleeve pressure is too low. The appliance inflates the sleeve again until a sleeve pressure suitable for taking the measurement has been reached. The appliance inflates until it cannot detect the blood pressure. If it still detects blood pressure at the end of the inflate phase, it continues to inflate. The sleeve may need to be attached more tightly. |
