Preserving and Party cooker
Dear Customer,
Before using the appliance, please read the following instructions carefully and keep this manual for future reference. The appliance must only be used by persons familiar with these instructions.
Connection to the mains supply
The appliance should only be connected to an earthed socket installed in accordance with the regulations.
Make sure that the supply voltage corresponds to the voltage marked on the rating label of the appliance. This product complies with all binding CE labelling directives.
Important safety instructions
• In order to avoid hazards, repairs to this electrical appliance or its power cord must be carried out by our customer service. If repairs are needed, please send the appliance to our customer service department (see appendix).
- Before cleaning the appliance, ensure it is disconnected from the power supply and has cooled down completely. For detailed information on cleaning the appliance, please refer to the section Cleaning and care.
• To avoid the risk of electric shock, do not clean the preserving cooker under running water and do not immerse it.
- This appliance is intended for domestic or similar applications, such as the
- staff kitchens in shops, offices and other similar working environments, - agricultural working environments, - by customers in hotels, motels etc. and similar accommodation, - in bed-and breakfast type environments.
- The appliance may only be used by persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lacking experience and knowledge, if they have been given supervision or instruction concerning the use of the appliance and fully understand all dangers and safety precautions involved.
• Children must not be permitted to operate the appliance.
- The appliance and its power cord must be kept well away from children.
• Children must not be permitted to play with the appliance.
- Caution: Keep any packaging materials well away from children – these materials are a potential source of danger, e.g. of suffocation.
- Every time the appliance is used, the main body including the power cord as well as any attachment fitted should be checked thoroughly for any defects. Should the appliance, for instance, have been dropped onto a hard surface, or if excessive force has been used to pull the power cord, it must no longer be used: even invisible damage may have adverse effects on the operational safety of the appliance.
• Always position the appliance on a level heat-resistant surface. - Caution: The housing becomes hot during use. Beware of hot steam escaping from the area around the lid; there is a danger of scalding.
- Do not allow the power cord to touch any hot parts of the appliance.
- Unwind the cord completely before use.
• To prevent damage to the appliance and to minimise the risk of personal injury,
- do not heat up the appliance when empty, and fill the container with water before connecting the unit to the mains,
- do not fill it right up to the rim,
- do not operate it without the lid,
- do not place it on a hot surface (hot-plate etc.),
- do not move or carry it when still hot.
• Always remove the plug from the wall socket
- after use,
- in case of any malfunction,
- when cleaning the appliance.
- When removing the plug from the wall socket, never pull on the power cord; always grip the plug itself.
- No responsibility will be accepted if damage results from improper use, or if these instructions are not complied with.
• We reserve the right to introduce changes related to technical progress.
Before using for the first time
- Before the cooker is used for the first time, the lid, the inside of the container and the grid insert should be cleaned with a moist cloth.
- For reasons of hygiene, fill the container with about 3 litres of water before it is used for the first time and let it boil for approx. 5 minutes (thermostat setting: 'Boil').
- When the appliance is switched on for the first time, a slight smell may be emitted. This is normal and will only last for a very short time. For that reason, adequate ventilation should be ensured by opening windows or balcony doors.
Temperature control (thermostat)
- The appliance is equipped with a continuously adjustable thermostat (see diagram).

- The temperature range of the thermostat is between 30°C and 100°C. Accordingly, the unit switches on if the ambient temperature is below 30°C and the plug
is inserted into the socket. Note: the thermostat is not an On/Off switch. It is important, therefore, that the container is always filled with water before the unit is connected to the mains.
- If the appliance is operated without water, the safety-cutout will switch it off to prevent overheating. Caution: Should this occur, disconnect the unit from the mains and allow sufficient time for it to cool down before the container is filled with water again.
Hints for food preservation
• To ensure that the preserved food will keep for as long as possible, cleanliness and thorough preparation are essential.
- Fruit and vegetables should be of good quality, fresh and ripe.
• Additional information on the various methods of preserving fruit or vegetables is available in numerous cook books.
Preparing the food to be preserved
Wash the whole fruit or vegetables thoroughly and let them dry; do not cut them. Green beans and peas keep longer if you briefly blanch them first.
Preparing the jars, lids and lid fasteners
- Glass jars, tins, bottles and all lids should be washed carefully in hot soapy water, then rinsed with clean water and placed on a clean cloth until the water has run off.
- Check all containers, lids etc. for stubborn residues and damaged pieces.
- Leave the rubber seals and fasteners in clear water until they are needed. Do not use any porous, damaged or over-stretched rubber rings or caps.
• Fill the jars or tins up to 2 cm below the
rim; when preserving pulpy items (apple purée etc.) leave 3 to 4 cm below the rim. When preserving sausage fill containers only three quarters full.
- Close the containers tightly with their screw-on lids or clamps.
Preserving food
- Put the grid insert inside the container. Do not place a cloth between the container bottom and the grid insert.
- Place the prepared glass jars on the grid insert in the cooker. Caution: The water temperature should be approximately that of the jars.
- Depending on the size of the jars, several layers may be stacked on top of one another.

- Fill the container with water. Note: The highest glass jars (i.e. those on the upper level) must be 34 submerged. If both levels are being used, the lower-level jars will be completely submerged.
- Attach the lid.
- Connect the appliance to the mains power.
- Use the temperature control to select the correct setting in accordance with the 'Preservation cooking timetable' (see at the end of this instruction manual). The pilot light comes on and the appliance
starts heating up.
- The actual preserving (i.e. cooking) process begins when the thermostat switches the pilot light off for the first time. The heating time is not included in the recipe cooking times.
- If boiling point is reached during operation although the thermostat has been set to a point below the 'Boil' position, turn the thermostat slightly lower so that the pilot light goes out. A signifi cant amount of steam build-up indicates when the boiling point has been reached.
- When the temperature selector is set to the 'Boil' position, the pilot light will be permanently switched on.
- Even with the thermostat in the ‘Boil’ position, too much boiling and bubbling should be avoided, to prevent over-evaporation of the water. Reduce the thermostat setting if necessary.
- When preserving food, never go below the recommended cooking times; if in doubt, a longer cooking time should always be chosen.
- Once the preserving process is complete, reset the thermostat to its ‘●’-position.
- Disconnect the appliance from the mains outlet.
- Remove the jars. Caution: beware of the danger of scalding. Place the jars on a cloth and use a second cloth to cover them.
- Do not remove the clamps or lid fasteners from the jars until they have completely cooled down.
- When using tins for preserving food, place them in cold water after preserving is complete.
After the preserving process
• For several consecutive preserving
cycles, the water in the container may be re-used.
- Do not place glass jars in hot water: preheat the jars first.
- Once the preserving process is complete, do not completely empty the container right way, but leave enough water to cover the bottom and then allow the container to cool down fi rst.
- Bottles should be closed immediately after the sterilisation process is complete.
- It is advisable to mark the glass jars, tins etc. with their date and contents for later reference.
- The best way to keep preserved food is in a dry, cool and dark environment.
Heating up soups
If the appliance is used for heating thick liquids such as soups, frequent and regular stirring is required during the entire heating phase: this is to ensure that the food does not burn, and also to prevent the safety-cutout from switching off the appliance prematurely. Once the pre-set temperature has been reached, the thermostat will keep switching on and off alternately to maintain the temperature. Frequent stirring is also required when such food is being kept warm.
Caution: Do not use the grid insert when heating up food.
Power cord storage
There is a wind-up storage for the power cord underneath the base. Unwind the cord completely before use.
Models equipped with outlet tap
This appliance has a practical outlet tap for pouring out low-viscosity liquids (e.g. mulled wine). The grid insert must be removed prior to heating up such liquids. Please note that
this appliance is not suitable for heating up liquids in commercial settings.
Cleaning and care
- Before cleaning the appliance, ensure it is disconnected from the power supply and has cooled down completely.
• To avoid the risk of electric shock, do not clean the preserving cooker under running water and do not immerse it. - Do not use abrasives or harsh cleaning solutions.
- The interior and exterior surfaces of the appliance and the lid may be wiped with a slightly damp lint-free cloth (use a mild detergent as necessary).
- The non-stick coated heating area should only be cleaned with a slightly damp lint-free cloth or a soft brush.
- Any lime deposits that may have formed should be removed from time to time with a commercially available descaling agent. (For proper use of the descaling agent, refer to the manufacturer's information on the packaging). Afterwards boil thoroughly with clean water. (The grid insert must be removed prior to descaling).
