How to change the battery of the Velleman DEM102?
Open the battery compartment on the back of the device using a small screwdriver. Replace the CR2032 battery respecting polarity (+ facing up). Close the cover.
What is the accuracy of the DEM102 thermometer?
The accuracy is ±1 °C in the range -20 °C to +100 °C. Outside this range, accuracy may decrease.
How to switch between °C and °F?
Press the °C/°F button on the side of the device to toggle between the two units.

Yes, you can use other type K thermocouple probes compatible with a standard plug.

  • All modifications of the device are forbidden for safety reasons. Damage caused by user modifications to the device is not covered by the warranty.
  • Only use the device for its intended purpose. Using the device in an unauthorised way will void the warranty.
  • Damage caused by disregard of certain guidelines in this manual is not covered by the warranty and the dealer will not accept responsibility for any ensuing defects or problems.
  • Do not switch the device on immediately after it has been exposed to changes in temperature. Protect the device against damage by leaving it switched off until it has reached room temperature.
  • Readings may be affected if the unit is operated within a radio frequency electromagnetic field, but the performance of the instrument will not be permanently affected.

6. Battery

This device is battery-operated, using 1x 9 V battery. Replace it when the battery-low icon appears.

To replace the battery, proceed as follows:

  1. Wait until the device powers off automatically (about 35 s).

A malfunction may occur if you replace the batteries while the device is on.

  1. Open the battery compartment.
  2. Replace the battery with a new 9 V battery.
  3. Close the battery compartment.

Warning: Do not puncture batteries or throw them in fire as they may explode. Do not attempt to recharge non-rechargeable batteries (alkaline). Dispose of batteries in accordance with local regulations. Keep batteries away from children.

7. Operation

7.1 Measuring the Temperature

  1. Aim the IR sensor at the target and press the measurement trigger to display the target's surface temperature. A red laser spot appears on the target during measurement.
  2. The distance-to-target ratio is 13:1. This means that, for example, at 13 cm, the target must be larger than 1 cm to get a proper measurement. Make sure the target area is within this field of view.
  3. The device can measure temperatures in °C or °F. Press the up/down key while the device is on to switch between measurement units. The corresponding symbol (°C or °F) appears on the display.

DEM102

  1. Press the laser/backlight button to switch the laser pointer on or off; in data-hold mode, press the laser/backlight button to switch the backlight on or off.
  2. When you release the measurement trigger, the hold mode is automatically activated: the last measurement value remains on the display until you press the measurement key again, or until the device shuts off automatically (after approx. 35 seconds).
  3. Note that the display is always on, while the laser is only on during measurement.

Remarks: The temperature

7.2 Measuring the Emissivity

  1. Hold the setting button pressed to enter/exit the emissivity mode.
  2. Adjust the emissivity value with the up/down button.

7.3 Other Functions

  1. In normal mode, briefly press the setting button to review the different values.
  2. In normal mode, hold the laser/backlight button pressed to select the IR or K-type measurement mode.

  1. In normal mode, slide the lock switch inside the battery compartment to the right to lock the measurement function and to enter the continuous measurement function. Slide to the left to unlock.
  2. In emissivity mode, briefly press the setting button to set the low and high alarm values.
  3. In recording mode, press the up/down button to review the latest 12 recorded readings.

8. Cleaning and Maintenance

  • The IR sensor is the most delicate part of the device and it shall be kept clean at all times. To do this, only use a soft cloth or cotton bud with a little water or medical alcohol.
  • Allow the lens to fully dry before using the device.
  • Wipe the other parts of the device regularly with a moist, lint-free cloth. Do not use alcohol or solvents.
  • Do not submerge the device in water or any other liquid.
  • There are no user-serviceable parts. Contact your dealer for spare parts if necessary.
  • The device shall be stored between -20^ C and +65^ C ( -4^ F to +149^ F).

All our products fulfil strict quality requirements and legal stipulations in the EU. In order to ensure the quality, our products regularly go through an extra quality check, both by an internal quality department and by specialized external organisations. If, all precautionary measures notwithstanding, problems should occur, please make appeal to our warranty (see guarantee conditions).

General Warranty Conditions Concerning Consumer Products (for EU):

- All consumer products are subject to a 24-month warranty on production flaws and defective material as from the original date of purchase.

- Velleman® can decide to replace an article with an equivalent article, or to refund the retail value totally or partially when the complaint is valid and a free repair or replacement of the article is impossible, or if the expenses are out of proportion.

You will be delivered a replacing article or a refund at the value of 100% of the purchase price in case of a flaw occurred in the first year after the date of purchase and delivery, or a replacing article at 50% of the purchase price or a refund at the value of 50% of the retail value in case of a flaw occurred in the second year after the date of purchase and delivery.

- Not covered by warranty:

- all direct or indirect damage caused after delivery to the article (e.g. by oxidation, shocks, falls, dust, dirt, humidity...), and by the article, as well as its contents (e.g. data loss), compensation for loss of profits;

- Hint: In order to save on cost and time, please reread the manual and check if the flaw is caused by obvious causes prior to presenting the article for repair. Note that returning a non-defective article can also involve handling costs.

- Repairs occurring after warranty expiration are subject to shipping costs.

- The above conditions are without prejudice to all commercial warranties.
