Why is my external hard drive not detected by my computer?

First, try a different USB port or cable. Ensure the drive is properly connected and the LED is on. If still not detected, go to Disk Management (Windows) or Disk Utility (macOS) to see if the drive appears there. If yes, assign a drive letter or mount it.

Can I use this hard drive with a PS4 or Xbox?

Yes, the SPE2010CC is compatible with PS4 and Xbox One. For PS4, the drive must be formatted as exFAT. For Xbox, format as NTFS. Note that some consoles require the drive to be connected via USB 3.0 for optimal performance.

What do I do if the hard drive is making clicking noises?

How to connect this external hard disk on your system?

Connect the USB cable to the hard disk, and to an empty USB port of the computer.

A drive icon, Philips External Hard Disk, appears in Windows Explorer and the blue light should light up. (The computer sometimes needs to be restarted, before you can use the new hardware).

When Windows does not recognize the hard disk (some PCs or laptops provide insufficient bus power on one USB port), plug the additional USB power cable (D) into an empty USB port of your computer.

How to safely disconnect?

I Double-click the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the system tray in the lower right part of the screen.

2 In the window that appears, select the name of the device that is to be removed, then click the Stop button.

3 When the Stop a hardware device screen appears, check that the correct information is displayed, and then click the OK button.

4 When the message Safe to remove hardware appears, remove the drive from the computer's USB port.

How to use the software

The CoSoSys Carry it Easy software allows you to password protect your files. To launch the software, double-click on the CarryitEasy.exe file on the hard disk icon in your Windows explorer. Follow the instructions on your screen to get started.

How to install for Mac

The hard disk is preconfigured for Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Vista, with a NTFS file system. For Mac, the hard disk needs to be formatted to FAT32.
