How to turn the computer on and off?

Press the power button located at the top left of the keyboard. To turn off, use the Start menu > Shut down.

How to use the touchpad?

The touchpad works like a mouse: move your finger to point, press the left and right buttons to click. You can enable/disable it with Fn+F7.

How to adjust screen brightness?

Use the Fn+▷ (increase) and Fn+◁ (decrease) keys. Sun icons are present on the arrow keys.

How to connect an external monitor?

Connect the VGA or HDMI cable to the corresponding port, then press Fn+F5 to switch between internal display, external, or both.

How to use the HDMI port?

The HDMI port allows you to connect the computer to a TV or projector to display high-definition video. Simply plug in the HDMI cable.

How to replace the battery?

Turn off the computer, unplug the adapter. Turn the device over, slide the battery lock then release the latch to remove the battery. Insert the new battery and lock it.

How to clean the screen and keyboard?

Use a soft, dry cloth for the screen. For the keyboard, you can use compressed air or a slightly damp cloth (not too wet). Avoid any liquid.

How to reset the computer to factory settings?

Go to Start > All Programs > Acer > Acer eRecovery Management. Follow the instructions to restore factory settings. Back up your data beforehand.

How to add RAM memory?

Turn off the computer, remove the battery. Open the memory compartment on the back. Insert a compatible DDR3 module aligning the notch. Close it and reinsert the battery.

What to do if the computer does not turn on?

Check that the AC adapter is plugged in and the power light is on. Try removing the battery and starting on AC power. If nothing happens, contact Acer support.

The TravelMate Generic User Guide contains useful information applying to all models in the TravelMate product series. It covers basic topics such as using the keyboard and audio, etc. Please understand that due to its nature, the Generic User Guide will occasionally refer to functions or features which are only contained in certain models of the series, but not necessarily in the model you purchased. Such instances are marked in the text with language such as "only for certain models".

The Quick Guide introduces you to the basic features and functions of your new computer. For more on how your computer can help you to be more productive, please refer to the TravelMate Generic User Guide. This guide contains detailed information on such subjects as system utilities, data recovery, expansion options and troubleshooting. In addition it contains warranty information and the general regulations and safety notices for your notebook. It is available in Portable Document Format (PDF) and comes preloaded on your notebook.

Follow these steps to access it:

1. Click on Start > All Programs > Documentation. 2. Click on TravelMate Generic User Guide.

Note: Viewing the file requires Adobe Reader. If Adobe Reader is not installed on your computer, clicking on TravelMate Generic User Guide will run the Adobe Reader setup program first. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation. For instructions on how to use Adobe Reader, access the Help and Support menu.

Hotkeys

The computer employs hotkeys or key combinations to access most of the computer's controls like screen brightness and volume output.

To activate hotkeys, press and hold the key before pressing the other key in the hotkey combination.
