Why does the hot water have a strange smell?

During first use, a plastic smell may appear, but it will disappear over time. A chalky smell may be due to chlorine in the water. If the odor persists, descaling may be necessary.

Why are there white or brown substances floating in the water?

This is scale (mineral deposits). It builds up faster with mineral-rich water (mineral water, softened water). Clean the kettle with a suitable descaler.

Why does the water take a long time to boil?

Check that the lid is properly closed. Heavy scale can slow boiling: descale the appliance. Very cold water also increases the heating time.

Why is it difficult to pour hot water?

The filter may be clogged with scale or residues. Remove it and clean it with a brush. If the problem persists, descale the kettle.

Why does the kettle make a clicking sound after use?

This noise is normal: it comes from the heating element cooling down. No action is required.

How to clean scale?

Use a commercial descaler following the instructions. Fill the kettle with water, add the descaler, boil, then rinse thoroughly. Repeat the process several times with clean water.

How to install the filter?

Align the filter with the groove in the spout and press firmly until it clicks into place. To remove it, push it toward the spout and lift it out.

What to do if the kettle heats without water?

The dry boil protection automatically turns off the appliance. Let it cool, fill with water, and restart. A smell may be noticeable, but it is normal.

Can I heat milk or tea in the kettle?

No, this appliance is designed only for boiling water. Heating other liquids may cause overflow and burns.

How to store the kettle?

After use, dry the appliance thoroughly and place it in a plastic bag to prevent insects from entering. Store it in a dry place out of reach of children.

• Do not damage the mains lead or mains plug.

Following actions are strictly prohibited. Modifying, touching on or placing near heating elements, bending, twisting, pulling, pulled over sharp edges, putting heavy objects on top, bundling the mains lead and carrying the appliance by the mains lead. (It may cause electric shock, or fire due to short circuit.

Electrical Requirement (For UK market only)

FOR YOUR SAFETY PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING TEXT CAREFULLY.

This appliance is supplied with a moulded three pin mains plug for your safety and convenience. A 13- amp fuse is fitted in this plug.

Should the fuse need to be replaced please ensure that the replacement fuse has a rating of 13- amp and that it is approved by ASTA or BSI to BS1362. Check for the ASTA mark A or the BSI mark on the body of the fuse.

If the plug contains a removable fuse cover, you must ensure that it is refitted when the fuse is replaced.

If you lose the fuse cover, the plug must not be used until a replacement cover is obtained.

A replacement fuse cover can be purchased from your local Panasonic Dealer.

If the fitted moulded plug is unsuitable for the socket outlet in your home, then the fuse should be removed and the plug cut off and disposed of safely. There is a danger of severe electrical shock if the cut off plug is inserted into any 13-amp socket.

How to replace the fuse

The location of the fuse differs according to the type of AC mains plug (figures A and B). Confirm the AC mains plug fitted and follow the instructions below. Illustrations may differ from actual AC mains plug.

Open the fuse cover with a screwdriver and replace the fuse and close or attach the fuse cover.

Important Information

• Do not subject the body or power base to strong impacts by dropping, hitting etc. (It may cause malfunction or damage.)
• Do not move the body or power base by dragging. (It may scratch the table or work surface.)
• Do not turn the power switch on without water. (It may cause malfunction.)
• Do not use the appliance outdoors.
• Do not put anything on the appliance. (The power switch may be turned on.)
• Make sure the kettle is properly located on the stand and mesh filter is set before switching on.
• Make sure to clean the appliance after every use.

Before use

Clean the appliance by following the steps below for the first time or when you have not used it for a while.

① Fill water up to the maximum water level and boil. (P.20)
(2) Pour the water out from the spout. (P.21 After use, pour out any remaining water.)

How to Use

1 Open the lid and fill with water.

2 Close the lid, put the kettle on the power base and insert the mains plug.

Adjusting the length of the mains lead

• Wind the mains lead on the bottom of the power base to adjust the length.

• Pass the mains lead out through the cut out section.
• Do not put the power base on the mains lead.

3 Turn on the power switch. (Press "I")

During use, the power indicator lights up.

When the water has boiled, the power switch turns off automatically.

• The kettle takes around 3 minutes to boil.
  Water temperature 23^ , room temperature 23^ , water to max level
• To stop boiling before the water has boiled, turn off the power switch.

Note

• Immediately after the water has boiled, do not force the kettle to continue heating the water by keep pressing the power switch. (It may cause malfunction.)

4 Remove from the power base and pour.

After use, pour out any remaining water.

*Keep the lid closed when pouring away the water.

Empty-use prevention function

When the power switch is on without water, an empty-use prevention function works to automatically turn off the power in order to prevent accidents and malfunction due to overheating.

① Allow the body to cool sufficiently.
(2) Remove the body from the power base and fill the water.
③ Place it on the power base and turn on the power switch again.

*If you boil the kettle without water, it may smell strange.

How to Clean

Clean the appliance after every use.
Before cleaning, unplug the mains plug, pour away the hot water, and cool the body.
- Do not use soap. (This may cause a residual odour.)
- Do not use benzine, thinner, alcohol, bleach, polishing powder, metal brush or nylon brush, otherwise the surface will be damaged.
- Do not wash in a dishwasher.
