Comment syntoniser une station FM ?

Utilisez les touches UP/DOWN du panneau avant ou la molette pour rechercher manuellement ou automatiquement les stations. Appuyez sur MEMORY puis sur une touche numérique pour sauvegarder une présélection.

Puis-je brancher une platine vinyle ?

Suggestions for Safety

■ Use a standard electrical AC wall outlet

1. Use from an AC power source of high voltage, such as for air conditioners, is very dangerous.

Be extremely careful not to make a connection to the electrical outlet for a large air conditioner or central-heating unit which uses high voltage, because there is the possibility of fire.

1. A DC power source cannot be used.

Be sure to check the power source carefully, especially on a ship or other place where DC is used.

■ Connection and removal of the power cord plug

1. Wet hands are dangerous.

A dangerous electric shock may result if the plug is touched by wet hands.

1. Don't pull the power cord.

Always grasp the plug; never pull the cord itself.

■ AC outlet on rear panel

(not equipped for some countries)

1. Any equipment connected here should have specified power consumption or less.

This outlet is exclusively for the connection of other audio equipment, such as a tape deck. Be sure the power consumption does not exceed the wattage specified near the AC outlet.

1. Never connect other electrical appliances, such as an iron or toaster.

If appliances with a large power consumption are connected, an unexpected accident might occur as a result of overheating.

■ Never attempt to repair or reconstruct this unit

A serious electric shock might occur if this unit is repaired, disassembled or reconstructed by unauthorized persons, or if the internal parts are accidentally touched.

■ For families with children

Never permit children to put anything, especially metal, inside this unit. A serious electric shock or malfunction could occur if articles such as coins, needles, screwdrivers, etc. are inserted through the ventilation holes, etc. of this unit.

■ Turn off after use

If the unit is left for a long time with the power on, this will not only shorten its useful operation life, but may also cause other unexpected trouble.

■ If water is spilled on the unit

Be extremely careful if water is spilled on the unit, because a fire or serious electric shock might occur. Immediately disconnect the power cord plug, and consult with your dealer.

Place this unit at least 10 cm (4") away from wall surfaces, etc., and away from direct sunlight.

- Keep the unit away from heaters, etc.

Heat can damage the external surfaces as well as internal circuits and components.

■ Avoid spray-type insecticides

Insecticides might cause cracks or "cloudiness" in the cabinet and plastic parts of this unit. The gas used in such sprays might, moreover, be ignited suddenly.

■ Never use alcohol or paint thinner

These and similar chemicals should never be used, because they may damage the finish.

■ If trouble occurs

If, during operation, the sound is interrupted or indicators no longer illuminate, or if abnormal odor or smoke is detected, immediately disconnect the power cord plug, and contact your dealer or an Authorized Service Center.

Connections

Stereo system components and their connections

• For a turntable with a ground terminal, be sure to connect the ground wire to the "GND" terminal of the cassette amplifier. (Refer to the operating instructions of the turntable.)
• Do not connect video-related equipment (such as a TV, etc.) to the AC outlets of these components. (These outlets are especially for audio equipment.) Also do not exceed the indicated power ratings when connecting to these outlets.
  "SWITCHED" outlets (For tuner, cassette amplifier, compact disc player): Power is controlled by the power switch of each unit. "UNSWITCHED" outlet (For graphic equalizer): Power is always available, regardless of power switch setting.
• If the graphic equalizer is not used in combination with these components, connect the AC power supply cord of the compact disc player to the AC outlet of the cassette amplifier and connect the remote-control cord of the compact disc player to the "REMOTE CONTROL" terminal ("OUT") of the cassette amplifier.

Connection of speaker systems

Follow the reverse of procedure 2.

Battery life

About 1 year. Depending on frequency of use.

■ Notes concerning use of dry batteries

1. Be sure the batteries are inserted so that the positive (+) and negative (−) polarities are correct. Batteries installed with incorrect polarities may leak and damage the remote-control transmitter.
2. Never subject the batteries to excessive heat or flame; do not attempt to disassemble them; and be sure they are not short-circuited.
3. If the remote-control transmitter is not to be used for a long time, remove the batteries and store them in a cool dark place.
4. Always remove old, weak or worn-out batteries promptly and dispose of them.
5. Never mix old and new batteries, nor batteries of different types (Carbon or Alkaline).

Antenna Connections

The indication AM used here includes both MW and LW.

Note: An outdoor antenna should be installed by a competent technician only.

FM outdoor antenna (option)

(Necessary in mountainous regions, inside reinforced concrete buildings, etc.)

FM indoor antenna (included)

• Attach to a wall (using tack or tape) facing in the direction of best reception.
• Tack should not contact internal antenna wire.
• For best reception sound quality, an FM outdoor antenna is recommended.
• Disconnect this antenna if an FM outdoor antenna is installed.

After finding the best reception position for the antenna, fix it to a wall, the rack, tuner, etc. Note: If this antenna is not properly installed, AM broadcasts will not be received. Be sure to connect the AM loop antenna even when an outdoor antenna is used.

(Necessary in mountainous regions, inside reinforced-concrete buildings, etc.) Use 5 \~ 12 m (16 \~ 40 ft.) of vinyl-covered wire horizontally at the window.

Installation of the AM loop antenna

1. Pay attention to the following points when attaching the antenna.

2. Do not attach it horizontally (to do so would impair reception).

3. Do not attach it close to metal surfaces (to do so would result in noise).

When attaching the antenna to a wall, column or rack

Find the height and direction of the antenna where reception is best and then fix it vertically to the wall, rack, etc.

• Do not attach it close to power cords, speaker wires, etc. (to do so would result in noise).

• Do not attach it close to a tape deck (when the tape deck is being used, chirping or beeping sounds may be received).

• Connect the AM loop antenna to the AM antenna terminals located on the rear panel of the tuner.

When attaching the antenna to the tuner

This type of installation may cause impaired reception or result in signal noise. If possible, attach the antenna to the rack, a wall, or a column.

Move the antenna toward the right or left to find the point of best reception.

Channel display (Refer to page 10.)

Quartz-lock indicator (quartz lock)

This indicator illuminates when tuned precisely to an FM or AM station.

Memory indicator (M)

Digital frequency display

The reception frequency of the FM or AM broadcast selected by using the tuning buttons or the preset-tuning buttons is indicated.

FM stereo indicator (stereo)

This indicator automatically illuminates when an FM stereo broadcast is being received.

Note:

It will not illuminate if the FM mode selector is set to monaural mode.

The indication AM used here includes both MW and LW.

Band selectors (BAND SELECTOR)

FM: Press this button to listen to an FM broadcast.

MW: Press this button to listen to an MW broadcast.

ALLOCATION: When the MW button is pressed for about 4 seconds, the MW frequency step will change to 10 kHz per step.

(This step is set to 9 kHz before shipment.) In order to return to the original frequency indication, press this button for about 4 seconds again.

LW: Press this button to listen to an LW broadcast.

FREQ SHIFT: When the LW button is pressed for about 4 seconds during reception of an LW broadcast, the LW frequency will decrease by 2 kHz. In order to return to the original frequency indication, press this button for about 4 seconds again.

Remote-control signal receptor (REMOTE SENSOR)

Memory button (MEMORY)

This button is used when preset memory setting of the preset-tuning buttons is made.

Preset-tuning buttons (1\~0).

These buttons are used to preset FM and AM broadcast frequencies into the memory of this unit, and are also pressed to select the desired preset frequencies.

Note:

Refer to page 10 for information concerning preset memory.

Power "STANDBY ♦/ON" switch (POWER "STANDBY ♦/ON")

This switch turns on and off the secondary circuit power only. The unit is in the "STANDBY" condition when this switch is set to the "STANDBY ♂" position. Regardless of the switch setting, the primary circuit is always "live" as long as the power cord is connected to an electrical outlet.

Tuning buttons (TUNING)

If the button is pressed momentarily and then released, the frequency will change at intervals of 0.05 MHz for FM and 9 kHz (or 10 kHz) for AM. If the button is pressed slightly longer and then released, the station will be selected automatically. If the broadcast signals are weak, it may not be possible to make automatic selection. If this occurs, make the selection manually.

FM mode selector (FM MODE)

This unit automatically switches to the stereo mode when a stereo broadcast is received. Press this selector to listen in the monaural mode. The stereo indicator will not illuminate in the monaural mode.

Volume/balance level indicators (VOLUME/BALANCE)

These indicators usually show the volume level; when the balance control is pressed, however, the position of balance level is displayed for five seconds, after which the display returns again to indication of the volume level.

When the muting button is pressed, the indicator corresponding to the maximum displayed volume level point will flash.

Super-bass tone control (SUPER BASS)

The low-range sound can be reinforced when this button is pressed.

Tone controls (BASS/TREBLE)

The bass control is for the low-frequency sound range, and the treble control is for the high-frequency sound range.

This indicates the amount of tape travel of "DECK A". When this button is pressed, the readout will be reset to "000".

Input selectors (INPUT SELECTOR)

These selectors are used for selection of the program source (tape, disc, or radio broadcast).

Balance controls (BALANCE)

While listening to an AM broadcast or a monaural FM broadcast, balance the sound so that it seems to be heard from the center, between the speakers.

If both ("LEFT" and "RIGHT") balance controls are pressed at the same time, balance will be set to the center position automatically.

Volume control (VOLUME)

Muting button (MUTING)

Press this button to temporarily reduce the volume level. The volume level is attenuated by 20 dB. (approx. 1/10)

Playback button (PLAY/▶)

Press this button to playback a tape.

Rewind button (REW/ ◀◀)

Press this button to rewind the tape rapidly.

Fast-forward button (FF/▶▶)

Press this button to advance the tape rapidly.

Stop/eject button (STOP/EJECT/■/▲)

Press this button to stop the tape and to open the cassette holder.

Cassette holder

Be sure to press the upper right side of the cassette holder (marked "PUSH") to close it.

Remote-control transmitter

For remote-control operation, be sure to connect the remote-control cords and/or flat cables, etc. included with each component correctly.

Memory Presettings

The indication AM used here includes both MW and LW.

With this tuner you may preset as many as 24 radio broadcast stations: FM/AM random presetting. After broadcast stations have been preset as described below, any desired station can be quickly and easily selected by simply touching one button.

Note: If a new broadcasting station is preset into a channel, the broadcasting station which was previously entered in that channel will be automatically erased.

5 Select the desired "channel". [A maximum of 24 broadcast stations (AM and/or FM) can be memorized.]

Example: To select "channel" 12:

Press 1 and then 2.

Note:

Make the entry without interruption between steps. If there is an interval of about two seconds or more between steps, you may not obtain the desired settings. In this case, perform steps 4 - 5 again to reset the memory as necessary.

3 Press the appropriate tuning button to tune to the desired broadcast.

• Automatic tuning

Press the button. When the frequency indication begins to change, release the button (a broadcasting station will be selected automatically). Repeat this operation until the desired station is found.

- Manual tuning

Press the button momentarily and tune to the desired station. The frequency will change each time the button is pressed.

6 Enter the name (call sign, etc.) of the preset broadcasting station on the station memory file sheet. (Refer to page 12.)

This completes the procedures for presetting radio broadcast frequencies. The other preset-tuning buttons can be preset in the same way by following steps 2 through 5.

■ "Most-recent" memory

The most-recent memory is a system by which the tuner "remembers" the FM or AM broadcast station last heard when the tuner is turned OFF, and automatically tunes to that station the next time the power is turned ON.

■ "Back-up" memory

This is the function which preserves the preset memory and most-recent memory functions. In the event of a power failure, or if the power cord of the tuner is disconnected from the electric outlet, the back-up memory will preserve the preset memory and most-recent memory functions of the tuner for as long as approximately one week.

If the power supply is interrupted for one week or longer, the memory settings will be erased.

For example:

1) If the power cord of the tuner is disconnected from the electric outlet.
2) If an audio timer is used and the timer does not operate the tuner for a week or longer,
3) If a power failure occurs, etc.

If any of the above occurs, the memory will have to be reset. If the power supply is interrupted for a week or longer, set the power switch of the tuner to the "on" position for an hour or more. Then reprogram the memory.

Remote-control transmitter

Use the remote-control transmitter within 7 meters.

Face it toward the remote-control signal receptor.

Be sure the transmitter part of the remote-control transmitter and the receptor part of the tuner are free from dust. Excessive dust might prevent reception.

Note: The control panel of the remote-control transmitter may be covered by a clear plastic protective sheet. This sheet may be removed if desired.

Operation

For detailed information concerning operation steps, etc., please refer to the appropriate page for each unit and the respective operation instructions.

Note that, for this system, the amplifier's input selector setting is automatically changed by simply pressing the appropriate button, as described below.

Make sure that the power "STANDBY ♦, ON" switch of the tuner is set to the "ON" position.

Note that there is no need to press this button if the tuner's power is ON. (If it is pressed, the tuner will be switched to standby mode.)

The sound source can be switched by simply pressing the appropriate button, as described below.

Press to listen to a compact disc.

Press to listen to a cassette tape.

Press to listen to phono discs

Press this button to listen to equipment connected to the "AUX" terminals.

*Press to select a desired preset "channel" to listen to radio broadcasts. (Refer to page 12.)

Adjust the tone quality with the graphic equalizer. (Note that this is operable only with Technics graphic equalizers with the remote control terminal.)

ON/FLAT

Press to switch ON the equalizer correction. (Press once again to switch OFF the equalizer correction.)

PRESET

Press to retrieve the memorized equalization data. The equalization memory preset will be changed each time the button is pressed.

Adjust the volume level.

(The volume level is indicated by the volume level indicator on the amplifier.)

Use amplifier's controls to adjust the left/right balance and the tone quality.

Be sure to reduce the volume level, and switch the tuner to standby mode using its "STANDBY 6, ON" switch or an "ON/OFF" switch on the remote-control transmitter.

Press this button to temporarily reduce the volume level. The volume level is attenuated by 20 dB. (approx. 1/10) Press once again to return to the previous volume level.

Listening to tapes

First turn ON the power of each unit.

5 Adjust the volume level and the desired tone quality. (Refer to page 12.)

Follow steps 1\~4 above on "DECK B" and then press "PLAY" buttons on "DECK A". (The tape in "DECK B" will playback first, and then the tape in "DECK A" will playback.

Series palyback can be made only from "DECK B" to "DECK A".)

When the tape reaches its end, it will stop automatically (during recording or playback only). This does not function during fast forward or rewind, so be sure to press the stop/eject button.

This unit automatically detects the type of tape being used, and adjusts for the proper bias and equalization.

Listening to other sources

First turn ON the power of each unit.

Note: It is recommended that the power to the compact disc player be switched OFF when it is not being used.

2 Follow the instructions accompanying your equipment for set-up and operation of the selected sound source.

Recording

- Your attention is drawn to the fact that recording prerecorded tapes or other published or broadcast material may infringe copyright laws.

Tape recording

First turn ON the power of each unit.

1 Select the Dolby noise-reduction system. (Refer to below)

Notes:

• Only "DECK A" can be used for recording. "DECK B" has no record capability.
• If the graphic equalizer is connected to the "EXT" terminals of this unit, equalized sound will be recorded on the built-in tape deck. This recording cannot be made during edit-recording. (Refer to page 15.)

Note for MW/LW — broadcast recording

If there is a high-pitched interference noise during recording of an MW/LW broadcast, change the beat-prevention switch on the rear panel to either the "A", "B" or "C" position, whichever results in the least amount of interference noise.

To erase recorded sounds

1. Insert the recorded tape cassette into the cassette holder of "DECK A".
2. Press the input selector marked "TAPE". (Check to be sure that the playback button of "DECK B" is not pressed and Dolby NR switch to the "OFF" position.)
3. Press the record button, and then let the tape run.

Note that any sounds on the tape will be automatically erased if a new recording is made on that part of the tape.

7 Start the desired program source. (Refer to pages 12 – 13.)

Dolby noise-reduction system

Because the level of tape noise is a fixed level, such noise is more easily heard as the level of the music signals becomes lower. Thus, when a recording is made, low levels are recorded at a high level, and, when this recording is played back, it is played back, conversely, at a low level. Because the tape noise will also be then played back at a low level, the result is a reduction in the noise level.

Edit-recording

"Edit-recording" is recording from one tape to another while making some changes.

Notes about cassette tapes

■ Selection of cassette tapes

Use the normal, CrO_2 or metal cassette tape.

A wide selection of cassette tapes is available today. To make tapes longer than 90 minutes, it is necessary to use thinner tape, which is fragile and must be handled with extreme care. Because the possibility of a cassette failure increases greatly as the playing time is increased, we recommend not using tapes longer than necessary.

■ Do not place near magnetic object.

Recordings will be erased.

■ Tape slack

This may cause the tape to break. Use pencil or similar object to take up the slack.

■ To prevent erasing of recorded sounds

Remove the erase-prevention tabs (thus preventing recording).

■ To record again

Cover the slot with adhesive tape.

To assure sound quality for recording and playback, be sure to clean the heads after approximately every 10 hours of use.

■ Cleaning with a cotton swab

1) Press the power switch to switch off the electrical power supply of the amplifier.

2) Press the stop/eject button to open the cassette holder.

3) Clean the heads, pinch roller and the capstan shaft with a cotton swab (or with a soft, lint-free cloth) slightly moistened with alcohol.

Do not use any solution other than alcohol for head cleaning.

Head demagnetization

If the heads become magnetized, use a head demagnetizer (available at a local electronics store).

If the heads become magnetized, a hissing noise will be heard during playback.

Do not use a magnetic screwdriver or other object which has become magnetized.

Caution:

To prevent costly damage to the tape recorder, never touch the heads with metal objects such as screwdrivers and never bring a magnet close to the tape mechanism.

Maintenance of external surfaces

To clean this unit, use a soft, dry cloth.

If the surfaces are extremely dirty, use a soft cloth, dipped into a soap-and-water solution or a weak detergent solution.

Wring the cloth well before wiping the unit.

Wipe once again with a soft, dry cloth.

Never use alcohol, paint thinner, benzine, nor a chemically treated cloth to clean this unit.

Such chemicals may damage the finish of your unit.

Troubleshooting Guide

Before requesting service for this unit, check the chart below for a possible cause of the problem you are experiencing. Some simple checks or a minor adjustment on your part may eliminate the problem and restore proper operation.

If you are in doubt about some of the check points, or if the remedies indicated in the chart do not solve the problem, refer to the directory of Authorized service centers (enclosed with this unit) to locate a convenient service center, or consult your Technics dealer for instructions.

No sound is heard when the power is switched on.	The incorrect input selector of the amplifier has been pressed.	· Check to be sure that the correct selector is pressed.
When listening to a radio sound, the left and right sounds are reversed.	The left and right connections of the connection cables connected to other equipment are reversed.	· Check the connection cables to other equipment and connect them correctly if necessary.
A low-pitched noise ("hum" or "buzz") is heard.	The power cord or a fluorescent light, etc., is near the connection wires.	· Try separating this unit from the electric appliance as far as possible.· Reverse the connection of the power cord plug.
Sound is not heard from the speaker system on one side.	The speaker connection wires are disconnected.	· Check and correct the connections of the speaker connection wires.
	The indicator of the balance controls are not set to the center position.	· Adjust the level by the balance controls.
Sound stops during a performance, or no sound is heard when the power is switched on.	The protection circuitry has functioned because the positive and negative speaker connection wires are "shorted" or speaker systems with an impedance less than the indicated rated impedance of the amplifier are used.	· Switch off the power, and, after determining and correcting the cause, switch on the power once again.
	The impedance of the speaker system being used is less than the rating of the amplifier.	· Switch off the power and then on again, and listen at a low volume level, or use a speaker system of the proper impedance rating.

	A slight noise may be heard because the method used for modulation of FM stereo broadcasts is different than that used for monaural broadcasts.	· Try reducing the treble sound by using the treble control of the amplifier.· Set the FM mode selector to the monaural position. (Note that the broadcast will then be heard as monaural sound.)· Try changing the location, height and/or direction of the antenna.· If an indoor antenna is being used, change to an outdoor antenna.· Try using an antenna with more elements.

While listening to AM broadcasts

Unit is being used at the same time as the television set.	Turn off television set, or use this unit farther away from it.
The AM loop antenna connection wires are too close to the power cord.	Place the antenna connection wires and the power cord farther apart.
The power supply frequency from the power cord is modulated and heard from the speakers.	Try reversing the connection of the power cord plug.Install a special outdoor antenna.

While using the tape deck

The volume control of the stereo amplifier is set to its minimum position.	·Adjust the volume control to the desired level.
The Dolby noise-reduction switch is not set properly.	·Set it to the correct position.
Heads, capstan and/or pinch roller are dirty or the tape is damaged.	·Clean the heads, capstan and/or pinch roller, or try a new cassette tape.
Erase-prevention tabs have been removed.	·Attach tape to cover space left by removal of erase-prevention tabs.
The editing mode selector is set to the "OFF" position.	·Set to the "NORMAL" or "HIGH" position.

While using the remote-control transmitter

	Batteries are incorrectly placed.	• Insert the batteries so that the positive (+) and negative (−) polarities are correct.
	The remote-control transmitter batteries are consumed.	• Replace them with new batteries.
	There is an obstruction between the remote-control transmitter and the tuner.	• Remove the obstruction.
	The remote-control transmitter is not correctly facing the receptor part of the tuner.	• Face the remote-control transmitter correctly toward the receptor.
