SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS FOR LATER USE. FOLLOW ALL WARNINGS AND INSTRUCTIONS MARKED ON THE AUDIO EQUIPMENT. 1 Readinstructions - All the safety and operating instructions should be read before the product is operated. 2 Retaininstructions - The safety and operating instructions should be retained for future reference. 3 HeedWarnings - Al wamings on the product and in the operating instructions should be adhered to. 4 Follow Instructions - All operating and use instructions should be followed.

5. Cleaning- Unplug this product from the wall outlet before cleaning

Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol cleaners. Use a damp cloth for cleaning. 6 Attachments - Do not use attachments not recommended by the product manufacture as they may cause hazards

7. Water and Moisture - Do not use this product near water-for example,

near à bath tub, wash bowl, kitchen sink, or laundry tub: in à wet basement: or near a swimming pool and the like. Accessories - Do not place this product on an unstable cart, stand, tripod, bracket, or table: The product may fall causing serious injury to à child or aduft, and serious damage to the product. Use only with à cart, stand, tripod, bracket, or table recommended by the manufacture, or sold with the product. Any mounting ofthe product should follow the manufacturers instructions, and should use a mounting accessory recommended by the manufacturer. 9 A product and cart combination should be moved with care. Quick stops, excessive force, and uneven surfaces may cause the product and cart combination to overtur: 10 Ventilation - Slots and openings in the cabinet are provided for ventilation and to ensure reliable operation ofthe product and to protect it from overheating, and these openings must not be blocked or covered. The openings should never be blocked by placing the product on a bed, sofa, rug, or other similar surface. This product should not be placed in a buï-in installation such as à bookcase or rack unless proper ventilation is provided or the manufacturers instructions have been adhered to 11 Power Sources - This product should be operated only from the type of power source indicated on the marking label. IFyou are not sure of the type of power supply to your home, consul your product dealer or local power company. The primary method of isolating the amplifier from the mains supply is to disconnect the mains plug. Ensure that the mains plug remains accessible at all times. Unplug the AC power cord from the AC outlet if the unit will not be used for several months or more. 12 Grounding or Polarization - This product may be equipped with a polarized alternating-current line plug (a plug having one blade wider than the other). This plug will fi into the power outlet only one way. This is a safety feature. Ifyou are unable to insert the plug full into the outlet, try reversing the plug. IFthe plug should still fai to fit, contact your electrician to replace your obsolete outlet. Do not defeat the safety purpose of the polarized plug. 13 Power- Cord Protection - Power-supply cords should be routed so that they are not likely to be walked on or pinched by items placed upon or against them, paying particular attention to cords at plugs, convenience receptacles, and the point where they exit from the product 14 Outdoor Antenna Grounding - fan outside antenna or cable system is connected to the product, be sure the antenna or cable system is grounded so as to provide some protection against voltage surges and built-up static charges. Article 810 of the National Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA 70, provides information with regard to proper grounding ofthe mast and supporting structure, grounding ofthe lead-in wire to an antenna discharge unit, size of grounding conductors, location of antenna discharge unit, connection to grounding electrodes, and requirements for the grounding electrode.

This will prevent damage to the product due to lightning and power-line surges. 16 Power Lines - An outside antenna system should not be located in the vicinity of overhead power lines or other electric light or power circuits, or where it can fall into such power lines or circuits. When installing an outside antenna system, extreme care should be taken to keep from touching such power lines or circuits as contact with them might be fatal 17 Overloading - Do not overload wall outlets, extension cords, or integral convenience receptacles as this can result in a risk of fire or electric shock. 18 Object and Liquid Entry - Never push objects of any Kind into this product through apenings as they may touch dangerous voltage points or short-out parts that could result in a fire or electric shock. Never spill liquid of any kind on the product

19 Damage Requiring Service - Unplug this product from the wall outlet and refer servicing to qualified service personnel under the following conditions: a) When the power-supply cord or plug is damaged b) ffliquid has been spilled, or objects have fallen into the product. € Ifthe product has been exposed to rain or water. d) Ifthe product does not operate normally by following the operating instructions. Please save the box and all of the packaging in which yourT 585 arived Should you move or otheraise need to transport yourT 585, this is by far the safest container in which to do so.Weve seen too many otherwise perfect components damaged in transit for lack of a proper shipping carton, so please: Save that box! CHOOSING À LOCATION Choose a location that is well ventilated (with at least several inches to both sides and behind), and that will provide à clear line of sight, within 23 feet/7 meters, between the T 585% front panel and your primary listening/viewing position. This will ensure reliable infrared remote control communications. TheT 585 generates a modest amount of heat, but nothing that should trouble adjacent components. I is perfectiy possible to stack the T 585 on top of other components. QUICK START In case you simply cannot wait to experience the performance of your new NADT 585, we provide the following "Quick Start'instructions to get your underway. Please make all the connections to your 585 with the unit unplugged. Itis also advisable to power-down or unplug al associated components while making or breaking any signal or AC power connections.

PLAY À CD OR DVD MOVIE

+ Usingthe supplied audio/video cable connector, connect the T 585 composite VIDEO OUT jack to your TV/manitor corresponding input. Connect likewise the T 585'5 MIXED AUDIO OUT to your TV/monitors applicable AUDIO input. + Plug the AC mains plug into the AC outlet: the LED indicator on the front panel will be illuminated amber indicating the T 585 is in standby mode ready to accept commands from either the front panel POWER button or [ON] key of DVD 7 remote control. + To start playback ofthe DVD player: press the [OPEN/CLOSE] button on the DVD 7 remote control or in the front panel. + _ Insertthe media and press PLAY [à ] button to start playback. You should hear audio and see an image on the TV/monitor. (Ifone or the other fails to appear, check your TV/monitors input settings or audio/ video allocation if applicable). On the other hand, the audiophile quality 24-bit, 192kHz audio D/A converters make the 1585 well protected from noise caused by even minute fluctuations in current from the power supply. FRONT PANEL POWER BUTTON: Press this button to switch ON the T 585. The LED indicator will turn from amber to green and lluminate the VFD. Pressing the power button again turns the unit back to standby mode. The T 585 can also be turned ON from standby mode by pressing the IOPEN/CLOSE] or [PLAY] button on the front-panel as well as on the remote control LED INDICATOR: This indicator will light up amber when the T 585 is in standby state. When the T 585 is at ON state, this indicator will iluminate green. REMOTE SENSOR: Point the DVD 7 at the remote sensor and press the buttons. Do not expose the remate sensor ofthe DVD 7 to a strong light source such as direct sunlight or illumination. you do so, you may not be able to operate T 585 with the remote control Distance: About 23 ft (7 m) from the front of the remote sensor Angle: About 30° in each direction of the front of the remote sensor DISC TRAY: With the DISC TRAY open, insert a DVD, VCD, CD or other compatible media disc face down onto the tray. “NO DISC" appears on the T 585'5 VFD ifthe disc is placed upside down {and it is a single sided disc) VFD: The Vacuum Fluorescent Display (VFD) provides playback information, settings and other indicators. OPEN/CLOSE: Press this button to open and close the disc tray. When in standby, this button will also power ON theT 585 and at the same time open the disc tray. STOP: While a DVD disc is playing, press this button once to stop/pause disc playback, When [PLAY] button is pressed, play will resume from the spot it was stopped. If [STOP] button is pressed consecutively during playback disc playback wil fully stop. While an audio disc is playing, press this button to stop playback and re-setthe pickup to the beginning ofthe track.The display reverts to showing the total number of tracks and total playing time of an audio disc or total number of WMA/MP3/Audio files. If the T 585 was programmed to play a selection oftracks, the program will be retained in the memory. 8 SCAN 44/»» 1]: Press these buttons to scan at fast-forward or fast-reverse during playback. The speed of advance (reverse) is relatively Slow at first. When the button is pressed again, the speed becomes faster. Each time the button is pressed, the speed increases until the maximum level is reached. The scanning speeding is shown in the OSD and may vary by disc type. The speed will be retained even after the button is released, To return to normal playback, press [PLAY] NOTE Not all media support maximum speeds for scanning. 9 RESOLUTION: Use this button to change the video RESOLUTION with respect to the applicable video output. You can only change the video RESOLUTION (480p/576p, 480i/576i, 720p or 1080i within your TV/Monitor resolution capabilities. Refer also to the item on PICTURE SETTING ADJUSTMENT at the VIDEO SETTING section of the REFERENCE page. 10 NAVIGATION AND ENTER BUTTONS: The navigation buttons LA/Y/@/» ] in conjunction with the [ENTER] button allows one to navigate the OSD, title and menu screens. 11 PLAY: Press this button to start playback. IFthe disc tray is open, press this button to automatically close the tray and start playback ia disc is loaded 12 PAUSE: Press this button to toggle between Play and Pause of a DVD, VCD, CD and other compatible media disc. 13 SKIP[Hd@/»»1]: Press [bB1] to skip forward or [Hd] to skip backward a track, file or chapter. 14 MENU: The MENU button is used to display via OSD the menus of the DVD, SACD, VCD, SVCD with PBC and MP3/WMA/JPEG media when available. The MENU button will also allow you to select between CD and SACD layers of SACD media

ATTENTION! Please make sure that the T 585 is powered offor unplugged before making any connections. is also advisable to power-down or unplug all associated components while making or breaking any signal or AC power connections. 1 RS-232: Connect this interface via RS-232 serial cable (not supplied) to any Windows® compatible PC to allow remote control oftheT 585 through NADS proprietary PC software or other compatible external controllers. Please log on to wwwnadelectronics.com/software for the latest PC interface control software. NAD is a certified partner of AMX and Crestron and fully supports these external devices. See your NAD audio specialist for more information: 2 EXTIRIN: This input is connected to the output of an IR (infrared) repeater (Xantech or similar) or the IR output of another component to allow control oftheT 585 from a remote location. Most NAD products with IR OUT are fully compatible with the T 585. 3 DIGITAL OUT (COAXIAL, OPTICAL}: Connect the optical or coaxial digital OUT ports to the corresponding S/PDIF digital input of a compatible device such as CD recorders, receivers, computer soundcard or other digital processors. 4 MIXED AUDIO OUT: Connect to the corresponding analog audio input of an amplifier receiver or stereo system 5 5.1CH AUDIO OUT: The T 585 contains a multi-channel decoder. It enables playback of discs recorded in multi-channel surround without the need for an optional decoder. Connect to the corresponding multi-channel audio input of a receiver or a processor. 6 VIDEO OUT/S-VIDEO OUT: Connect to video input of a TV/monitor using quality dual-RCA and/or S-Video cables designed for video signals In general the S-Video connection is superior and should be used if your TV/monitor provides the corresponding input. 7 COMPONENT VIDEO OUT: Connect the T 585 COMPONENT VIDEO OUT to the component video input of a compatible TV/monitor/ or an AW Receiver with component video input. Be sure to observe consistency in connecting the appropriate Ÿ, Cb/Pb, Cr/Pr jacks to the corresponding sources/inputs. Do not rely purely on the color coding of the jacks, which may not always be consistent among brands. Refer also to the item on VIDEO OUTPUT at the VIDEO SETUP MENU section of the OPERATION - USING THE T 585 - SETUP MENU page. HDMI OUT: Using a HDMI cable (not supplied), connect the HDMI OUT jack to the corresponding HDMI input jack of an HDTV, a projector or an AN Receive. Set'HDMI'to "ON" at the “Video Output’ section of the DEO SETUP menu for audio/video to be available at HDMI OUT. Refer also to the item on VIDEO OUTPUT at the VIDEO SETUP MENU section of the OPERATION — USING THET 585 - SETUP MENU page. WARNING Before connecting and disconnecting any HDMI cables, both the T 585 and'the ancillary device must be powered OFF and unplugged from the AC outlet. Failure to observe this practice may cause permanent damage to all equipment connected via HDMI sockets. SCART/RGB OUT (Europe model/PAL only): Connect the T 585‘ ISCART/RGB OUT] to the SCART/RGB video input of a compatible TW/ monitor. Be sure to observe the correct orientation of the SCART/RGB plug (not supplied 10 VGA OUTPUT: Using a VGA cable (not supplied), connect this VGA output port to a VGA-compatible external monitor. This VGA port is compatible with the following resolutions - VGA (640 x 480), XGA (1024 x768) and SXGA (1280 x 1024) Set'VGA'to*ON'at the ‘Video Output" section ofthe VIDEO SETUP menu for video to be available at VGA OUTPUT. Refer also to the item on VIDEO OUTPUT at the VIDEO SETUP MENU section of the OPERATION — USING THET 585 - SETUP MENU page.

11 +12V TRIGGER (ON/OFF AUTO TRIGGER): /hen the AUTO TRIGGER switch is set to ON and the POWER switch at the rear panel also set to ON position, a +12V DC input at +12V TRIGGER IN will power ON theT 585. At this ON condition, the POWER button in the front panel as well as the corresponding DVD 7 [ON/OFF] keys will be disabled effectively handling this function to an external controller. When the AUTO TRIGGER switch is set to OFF position, the T 585 ignores any +12VTRIGGER IN command; the unit can be powered ON/OFF using the POWER button in the front panel or DVD 7 [ON/OFF] keys {make sure the POWER switch at the rear panel is at ON setting as well) 12 +12V TRIGGER IN: Accepts 12V DC Trigger output from compatible components such as power controllers and home automation devices. When the AUTO TRIGGER switch at the rear panel is set to ON, a +12V DC input at +12V TRIGGER IN will power ON the T 585 (make sure the POWER switch at the rear panel is also set to ON position) AILNAD products with +12VTRIGGER OUT feature are fully compatible with the T 5855 +12V TRIGGER IN REAR PANEL 13 AC POWER INLET: Connect to the supplied IEC-standard removable AC power cord or a compatible cord. 14 POWER SWITCH: The POWER switch supplies the master AC mains power for the T 585. When this switch is at ON position, the T 585 is in standby mode as shown by the amber status condition ofthe LED indicator. At this condition, the T 585 can be powered ON by pressing the POWER button on the front panel or [ON] key of DVD 7 remote control In combination with +12VTRIGGER (AUTO TRIGGER switch set to ON), this POWER switch must be at ON position for the T 585 to be powered ON via a +12V DC input at +12V TRIGGER IN. I you intend not to use the T 585 for long periods of time, set the POWER switch to the OFF position.

SEARCH : Display MARKER SEARCH menu RESOLUTION : Change video resolution depending on your TV. 0-9 number buttons : Selects numbered items in a menu; when possible, use for direct entry oftrack or file number. SLOW [-@1/B> ] : Reverse or forward slow playback. SCAN [-44/»> 1: Fast reverse or forward search, 10 TITLE: Displays the disc's Title menu, if available. MENU : Access menu on à DVD disc. SETUP : Accesses or exits setup menu: 11 [A/w/@/» ]: Selects an item in menu. ENTER : Acknowledges menu selection. 12 DISP : Access on-screen display. RTN : Ext from a menu window 13 [A] (OPEN/CLOSE) : Opens and closes the disc tray. STOP : Stops playback. PAUSE : Pauses playback temporarly/press repeatedly for frame-by-frame playback 14 SKIP [#4] : Go to the beginning of current chapter track or ile /go back to the previous chapter track or ile. SKIP L®1]: Go to next chapter track or flle PLAY : Starts playback Place batteries into opening. Ensure the correct fitting is observed. Replace battery cover by aligning and inserting the two tabs int the holes. Press battery cover into place untl‘licks'closed

SETUP You may operate the T 585 DVD/SACD/MP3 Player from its front panel or via the DVD 7 remote contra. Since the remote will be the primary controller for most cases, we will focus on remote-contralled operations. Be sure also to read the section, IDENTIFICATION OF CONTROLS - FRONT PANEL.

REGION MANAGEMENT INFORMATION

The T 585 is designed and manufactured to respond to the Region Management Information that is recorded on a DVD disc. lfthe Region number described on the DVD disc does not correspond to the Region number shown on the back ofthe T 585, the player cannot play that disc. The VFD and OSD will display'CHECK REGION CODE! when an incompatible region disc is loaded PLAYABLE DISCS TheT 585 has exceptional playability. it has support for DVD-Video, DVD-R/RW/+R/ÆRW, DVD-A, SACD, SVCD with or without PBC (Play Back Control) VCD, HDCD, Audio CD, CD-R/-RW and including recorded MP3, copyright-protected WMA and JPEG files. NOTE You cannot playback discs other than those listed above such as Video, CD-CD-ROM, CD-Extra, CD-G, photo-CD, and CD-i data discs. To do so may render the T 585 permanent} inoperable.

DISC LOADING AND PLAYBACK

You can open the disc tray by pressing [OPEN/CLOSE] button even ifthe T585 is in standby mode. The LED indicator will turn from amber to green. Place a disc on the disc tray with the playback side down There are two different disc sizes. Place the disc in the correct guide on the disc tray. IFthe disc is out of the guide, it may damage the disc and cause theT 585 to malfunction. “NO DISC" appears on the T 585 VFD if the disc is placed upside down (and it is a single sided disc) The following are important tips when loading a disc + Do not push the disc tray while it is moving. Doing so may cause the T 585 to malfunction. + Do not push up the disc tray or put any objects other than discs on the disc tray. Doing so may cause the T 585 to malfunction. + Keep your fingers well clear ofthe disc tray as it is closing. Be especially careful with children fngers around the closing disc traÿ, as there is à risk of personal injury. Press [PLAY], the disc tray is automatically closed and playback begins. Press the DVD 75 numeric button(s) to select the desired track (CD) and then ENTER. Play ofthe selected item now begins. For DVD or other disc media, playback operation is accessible through the disc's MENU. NOTE Do not move the T 585 during playback. Doing so may damage the disc andtheT 585. USING THET 585 ABOUT THE ON-SCREEN DISPLAY (OSD) TheT 585 employs a self-explanatory on-screen display‘menu"that will appear on the connected TV/monitor. These are required during the setup process (and are useful in day-to-day operation), so be sure to connect the TV/monitor before proceeding with setup.

DISPLAY THET 585 SETUP MENU

Press the DVD 75 [SETUP] button for the Setup Menu OSD to appear. With the use ofthe DVD 75 navigation buttons, you may select various menus. IF the Setup Menu does not appear, check your applicable video connections. NAVIGATING THE SETUP MENU OSD AND MAKING CHANGES To navigate through the Setup Menu OSD options, please do the following using the DVD 7 remote control 1 Use [A/W] keys to move up or down the menu selections. 2 Press [à] or [ENTER] to select a menu item. Pressing [ €] will also return the user to the previous menu or exit from a particular menu. 3 Press [ENTER] to select a desired setting/selection. To exit from a menu option, press repeatedly the DVD 75 IRTN] key as applicable or the [SETUP] key to exit completely

You can display the general DVD playback status on the TV screen. Some items can be changed using the menu. To access the DVD on-screen display: 1 Press the DVD 75 [DISP] button during playback 2 Use[A/W] to select an item. The selected item is highlighted. 3 Press [-4/] to change the setting. Use the number buttons if appropriate (eg. inputting the title number) For some functions, press (ENTERI NOTES The display feature may not be available for all dise media and is media dependent. Ifno button is pressed for about 10 seconds, the on-screen display disappears.

SETUP MENU The Setup Menu allows one to customize the operation ofthe T 585. the factory defaults do not suit your taste, you will need to use the setup menu to configure the T 585 yourself The Setup Menu is divided into 4 sections. Each section is depicted by an icon. Select among Original, English, French, German, talian, Spanish, Swedish Portuguese and Other as the desired language setting, Select"Other”to manually key-in the language code of other languages listed in the “LANGUAGE CODE LIST'ofthe REFERENCE section. PICTURE MODE Set Picture Mode according to the type of content being viewed. There are two types of source content in pictures recorded in DVD video discs: film content (pictures recorded from films at 24 frames per second) and video content (video signals recorded at 30 frames per second). Auto: Identifies the type of material on the disc being played film or video) and automatically selects the picture mode. Film: Select when the disc contains film material recorded with the progressive scan mode. Video: Select when the disc contains video material only. SIGNAL MODE Depending on the type of TV/Monitor set you own, select the signal mode you wish to watch your disc. Refer to your TV/Monitors owners manual to check its signal or system mode capabilities. Auto: Automatically detects the signal mode of your TV/Monitor. NTSC: Select when the signal mode of your TV/Monitor is NTSC system. PAL: Select when the signal mode of your TV/Monitor is PAL system, PAL-60: Sometimes knows as ‘pseudo-PAL'with "60" standing for 60Hz instead ofthe normal 50Hz applicable for PAL system. This signal mode is mostly applicable for VCR or video consoles. BLACK LEVEL (NORTH AMERICA VERSION ONLY) Black level determines the amount of light a picture display emits for the darkest areas of an image 0: Standard black level setting +7.5 1RE: RE stands for Institute of Radio Engineers - higher IRE numbers mean more brightness

Picture Setting adjustment is available for the following options. Brightness: Adjust overall brightness ofthe image. Contrast: Adjust bright areas (white level) in the image. Saturation: Adjust the dullness orrichness ofimage color. À color with absolutely no saturation is going to be gray. À color that is 100% saturated is in its most intense form. Sharpness: Picture sharpness could be easily lost during the recording/playback process. Adjust sharpness to improve the fine details ofthe picture Gamma: Adjust intensity ofthe picture non-inearÿ. Select when an images dark portions appears obscure or bright portions become brighter than necessary. NOTES + Thelevelof adjustment for Brightness, Contrast, Saturation and Sharpness (all defaulted to “0") range from -4 to +4 while Gamma is from 0.761 up to 1.315. Refer also to the item on PICTURE SETTING ADJUSTMENT at the VIDEO SETTING section of the REFERENCE page. VIDEO OUTPUT Turn ON/OFF either HDMI audio/video OUT or VGA OUT. HDMI OUT and VGA OUTPUT can only be tumed ON one at a time = if HDMI is set to ON, VGA is automatically set to OFF and vice versa. SCART (EUROPE MODEL ONLY) SCART carries both composite video and RGB signals. Select the video output signal that will be routed over SCART OUT. CVBS: Select to output composite video signals RGB: Split the signal into the three fundamental colors Red, Green and Blue (RGB) resulting to greater picture resolution and élimination of artifacts associated with traditional composite video signals.

Each DVD disc has a variety of audio output options. Set the players Digital Audio Output according to the type of audio system you use. DOLBY DIGITAL/PCM: Select DOLBY DIGITAL/PCM if an active digital output is supplied to a Dolby Digital decoder (or an amplifier or other equipment with Dolby Digital decoden). In this mode, theT 585 will automatically switch between Dolby Digital and PCM depending on the program encoded on the disc, with Dolby Digital given priority. DTS is not possible with this setting, Stream/PCM: Select Stream/PCM if an active digital output is supplied to an amplifier or other equipment with DTS decoder, Dolby Digital decoder and MPEG decoder. the disc is neither of stream or PCM format, there will be no audio output at this option PCM: Select when connected to a two-channel digital stereo amplifier DVDs encoded in Dolby Digital or MPEG will be automatically

dounmixed to two-channel PCM audio. DIS cannot be downmixed to two-channel PCM. Off: Select to turn off digital audio output. With this option, you will have purely analog audio output NOTES + Hfan active digital audio output signal is supplied to a receiver or other equipment without a corresponding digital decoding capability a very loud noise may be produced which could permanenty damage the speakers. The DTS DVD disc sound is played back only when the DVD player is connected to a receiver with a DTS decoder.

This option allows you to configure the 5.1 CHANNEL AUDIO OUT of the 7585. Digital audio output will not be affected by the settings done in this section. Use [ A/W ] keys to select a menu item and [-4/B ] keys to adjust the settings ofthe selected item. Large: Select if you have connected to a system with full frequency speakers capable of deep bass response. None: Select when you do not have a certain speaker connected. Front L/R speakers size can only be set to“Large"or"Small: I Front L/R speakers size is set to“Small; Rear and Centre speaker size can only be set to'Small'or‘None’ Subwoofer size can be set only to“Large"or"None” VOLUME Adjust the output level ofthe selected speaker from -10dB up to à maximum of OdB, DISTANCE Setting the Distance lets the speakers know how far the sound has to travel to reach your set listening point. This allows the sound from each speaker to reach the listener at the same time. Distance can be adjusted within 1ft (0.30m) up to 20ft (6m). DISTANCE setting is not applicable for Subwoofer.

XOVER (CROSSOVER) FREQUENCY

Setthe frequency level where bass redirection starts. Frequencies below the set level are redirected to the subwoofer while those above are not redirected. Crossover frequency can be set from 80Hz up to a maximum of 150Hz;itis applicable only to SUBWOOFER. TEST Select ON to test the signal of each speaker. Ajust the volume to match the volume of test signals memorized in the system. You can adjust the volume while operating the test tone - use [ A/V ] buttons to select Volume or Speaker option then use [-@/> ] buttons to select speaker or adjust volume level. If you adjust the volume while operating the test tone, the test tone will be held paused in the current speaker channel. RETURN Press to go back to the previous menu screen MASTER VOLUME Adjust the audio output level oftheT 585 from -50d8 up to a maximum of OdB. DOWNMIX Downmix allows you to enjoy à 5.1 or 7.1 channel media regardless of how many speakers you have. In Downmix, the analog stereo output could be processed into two different types of stereo Downmix. Ltt: Surround-compatible Downmix known as Left-total/Right-total, also known as Lb/Rt. This is a muhi-channel source suitable for Dolby. Pro Logic Il, Dolby Pro Logic IIx, or other matrix decoding. The Lt/Rt Downmix sums up all the Surround channels, attenuates them by 3 dB and adds them out-of-phase to the Left Front speaker channel and in-phase to the Right Front speaker channel. This allows à home theater decoder to produce Front Left Center Front Right, Surround Left and Surround Right as well as Surround Back Left and Right channels Stereo: Stereo Downmix is suitable for playback on a two-channel stereo system or on headphones. Stereo Donnmix adds the Center, Left Surround, and Right Surround channels discretely to the Stereo Left and Stereo Right speaker channels. This preserves correct stereo separation for stereo-only listening Off: Audio content wil not be subjected to downmixing DYNAMIC RANGE CONTROL (DRC) With the DVD format, you can hear a program soundtrack in the most accurate and realistic presentation possible, thanks to digital audio technology. However, you may wish to compress the dynamic range ofthe audio output (the difference between the loudest sounds and the quietest ones). ON: The ON setting is for late-night sessions or other times when you wish to retain maximum dialog intelligibility while minimizing overall volume levels. This is applicable only for Dolby Digital soundtracks. OFF: To maintain full dynamic range, set to OFF. TESTTONE Atest tone can be enabled to help you check out availability of 5.1 channel audio OUT and related connections. ON: Test tone automatically cycles through each channel OFF: Stop test tone cycle. I you do not hear the test tone, check your line and speaker connections or

5.1 SPEAKER SETUP configurations.

| Rating "Oütry Code Some movies contain scenes that may not be suitable for children to view. Many ofthese discs contain parental control information that applies to the complete disc or to certain scenes on the disc. Movies and scenes are rated from 1 to 8, depending on the country. Some discs offer more suitable scenes as an alternative. RATING (NORTH AMERICA VERSION ONLY) The RATING feature allows you to block access to scenes greater than the rating you have set up, thereby preventing your children from being able to view material you believe is unsuitable. To activate “Rating! please be guided by the following; 1 While at'Rating'line menu, press [ENTER] 2 ‘Password ___ _"will appear indicating that à password is needed to change the ratings level 3 Input the password you have setup at the“Password'as discussed below. Press [ENTER] 4 Upon entering the correct password, you can now set the parental rating level you prefer. Use [ A/Y ] to step through the rating levels. 5 Press [ENTER] to select and save the rating level you have chosen. RATING 1-8 Rating one (1) has the most restrictions and 8"is the least restrictive. UNLOCK I you select unlock, parental lock is not active and the disc plays in full NOTE Should you forget your password, reset your password by restoring the T 585 to its factory default settings. See “RESTORE SETTINGS" below on how to reset the T 585 to its factory default settings. COUNTRY CODE Enterthe code of the country/area whose standards were used to rate the DVD video disc. 1 While atCountry Code’ line menu, press [ENTER]. 2 ‘Password ___ _"will appear indicating that à password is needed to change the ratings level 3 Input the password you have setup at the“Password'as discussed below. Press [ENTER] 4 Upon entering the correct password, you can now set the Country Code. 5 Use[A/Y] to select the first character. Press [BR ] to go to the second character. 6 Use [A/Y] to select the second character. Press [ENTER] to finalize and save the selected country code.

5. Press [ENTER] to confirm password entry. Your new password is now

activated. An existing password can be changed through the following steps. 1 While at'Password'line menu, press [ENTERI 2 “Old Password _ _ _ _will appear indicating that you have to enter your existing password. Input your existing 4-digit password and then press [ENTER]. 4 “New Password __ _ _will appear indicating that you now have to enter à new password.

5. Upon entering your new password, Verify _ _ _ _"will appear

prompting you ta re-enter the same 4-digit password to verify entry of correct password.

6 Press [ENTER] to confirm password entry. Your new password is now activated. NOTE Hfthe password entered is incorrect, you will remain in the same menu screen like “Old Password__ __"or“Verify____" You cannot move forward to the next sequence unless the correct password is entered. Press [€] to exit the sequence if you are unable to enter the correct password.

USING THET 585 - SETUP MENU

RESTORE SETTINGS If you desire to reset the T 585 and restore all its factory default settings, the following steps should be followed. 1 While at'Restore Settings" line menu, press [ENTER] 2 At‘Yes menu line, press [ENTER] 3 ‘Password ___ _will appear In quick succession, press 5851 for North American version model or 5852 for Europe version model 4 “Load default AH Settingl” (North American version) or‘Load default C Setting!" (Europe version) will be shown in OSD — this indicates that the 7585 is already restored to its factory default settings. OTHERS PBC : Set Playback Control (PBC) to On or Off. ON: Video CDs with PBC are played according to the PBC. OFF: Video CDs with PBC are played the same way as Audio CDs. AUTOPLAY : You can set up the DVD Player to automatically start disc playback upon loading of a DVD disc. If Auto Play mode is set to ON, this DVD player will search for the title that has the longest playback time and then play back the title automatically. ON: Auto Play function is active. OFF: Auto Play function is not active. NOTE The Auto Play function may not work for some DVDs.

ABOUT HDMI HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) supports both video and audio on a single digital connection for use with DVD Players, SetTop Boxes, and other AV devices. HDMI was developed to provide the technologies of HDCP (High Definition Contents Protection). HDCP is used to protect digital content transmitted and received. HDMI has the capability to support standard, enhanced, or high-definition video plus standard to multi-channel surround-sound audio. HDMI features include uncompressed digital video, a bandwidth of up to 5 gigabytes per second, one connector (instead of several cables and connectors) and communication between the AV source and AV devices such as DTVS. HDMI CONNECTION I you have a HDMI TV or monitor, you can connect it to this player using à HDMI cable (not supplied) 1 Connect the HDMI OUT jack on the player to the HDMI jack on à HDMI compatible TV/monitor.

2. Set the TV source to HDMI (refer to your TV/monitors Ouners

manual) When you use HDMI connection, you can change the resolution (480i/576i, 480p/576p, 720p, 1080) for the HDMI output by pressing RESOLUTION. You can only change the resolution within your TV/Monitor resolution capabilities SACD PLAYBACK Some SACD discs contain bath SACD layer and the standard CD layer. They are normall called Hybrid SACDS. From the window screen below, press the appropriate folder to select the desired layer. Press [ENTER] or [PLAY] to start disc playback L] 00:00:00

SWITCH FROM SACD TO CD LAYER

During SACD or CD layer playback, press [MENU] button to go back to the above menu screen and switch to SACD or CD layer.

2-CHANNEL AND MULTI-CHANNEL SACD

Some SACDS consist of 2-channel area and a multi-channel playback area The multi-channel characteristic ofthe Super Audio CD features a speaker allocation system basicall similar to the 5.1 channel output of current AV systems To switch between 2-channel and multi-channel during playback and vice versa, press DVD 75 [4/ ] as indicated in the OSD. NOTE SACD audio output is available only at 5.1 CHANNEL AUDIO OUT and MIXED AUDIO OUT. There is no SACD audio output at DIGITAL OUT.

DVD Audio is a new disc format building on the success of DVD to provide high quality uncompressed, multi-channel audio for a new experience in audio quality. À DVD Audio disc can be identified by the DVD audio logo on the disc jacket or on the disc itself. DVD Audio can provide higher quality stereo than Audio CDs with à sampling rate of up to 192kHz (compared to 44.1kHz for CDs). DVD Audio digital sound can be delivered with up to 24 bits of data (compared to 16 bits for a standard CD). À typical DVD Audio disc contains up to seven times the data capacity of a CD. This additional space is used for music, either Advanced Resolution multi- channel sound quality that is closer to the artists master recording or for longer recordings. Many DVD Audio discs contain on-screen text, such as artist biographies, playlists, or yrics. Some DVD Audio discs contain photo galleries or video clips Follow the DVD-A disc on-screen menu to navigate through the contents and playback options.

TheT 585 can play MP3/WMA formatted recordings on CD-R or CD-RW discs as well as view discs with JPEG files. You may mix any ofthe file types on the disc.

1. Load the applicable disc. The OSD will display the folders or files as a list

Use the DVD 75 [ A/W/4/» ] keys to navigate through the folders or files. You must be at stop mode to access folders on the left side ofthe menu window.

2. Press ENTER or PLAY to start playback. For each file type being played,

the T 585 will display the file type at the VFD.

3. Press STOP and [Æ] to go back to the previous directory.

RANDOM PLAY Press the DVD 75 [RANDOM] button for random playback of applicable file types.

ROTATE PICTURE Press [A /Y/4/® ] keys during the showing of a picture to rotate the picture clockwise, counter clockwise or reflect the image as ifin a mirror. NOTE During playback of any file, press [MENU] to return to the main ROOT menu. PROGRAMMING Program)

Repeat to place additional tracks/fles on the list 4 Selectthe track/file you want to start playing from the“Program' list 5 To begin playback press LB J or [ENTERI. Playback follows the order in which you programmed the tracks/fles. Playback stops after al of the tracks/filles on the “Program"list have been played once. 6 Toresume normal playback from programmed playback select a track/ flle on the left side ofthe menu screen and then press [PLAY] OPERATION

1 Use [A/Y] to select the track that you wish to erase from the Program list

2. Press [CLEAR]. Repeat to erase additional tracks on the list

This player memorizes last scene from the last disc that is viewed. The last scene remains in memory even if you remove the disc from the player or switch offthe player. you load a disc that has the scene memorized, the scene is automatically recalled NOTE This player does not memorize the scene of a disc if you switch offthe player before commencing to play the dis.

AUTOMATIC POWER OFF FUNCTION

TheT 585 will automatically shut down and go to standby mode fit is left at STOP or PAUSE mode for 5 minutes.

OPERATION OTHER FUNCTIONS USING THE DVD 7 REMOTE CONTROL Depending on the media, the following are other basic functions that can be directly accessed using the DVD 7 remote control. AUDIO SUBTITLE ANGLE The AUDIO button will allow one to switch the audio language or format of the DVD media only ifthe DVD media supports the AUDIO button feature. Press [AUDIO] repeatedly to select desired audio language or format. SUBTITLE

I is possible to change the subtile language to a different language from the one selected at the initial settings. This operation works only with discs on which multiple subtile languages are recorded 1 Press [SUBTITLE) during playback. When no subtiles are recorded "OFF" will be displayed

2. Press [SUBTITLE) repeatedly until the desired language is selected

When the desired language is not selected even after pressing the button several times, it means that the language is not available on the disc To eliminate the On Screen Subtites, press [SUBTTTLE] repeatedly to select *OFF' ANGLE

Some DVDs may contain scenes that have been shot simultaneously from à number of different angles. For these discs, the same scene can be viewed from each ofthese different angles using the ANGLE button. This function only works for discs having scenes recorded at different angles

1 Press [ANGLE] during playback Angle number will be displayed ‘ANGLE19)

2. Press [ANGLE] repeatedly until the desired angle is selected

REPEAT To repeat the playback of a particular track file or chapter, press the T 5855 [REPEAT] key once. Pressing the same [REPEAT] key a second time will repeat all the tracks files or title. Turn off repeat mode by pressing REPEAT button a third time. REPEAT A-B

To repeat a sequence, implement the following procedures: 1 Press [RPT A-BJ at your chosen starting point.

MARKER— SEARCH _ RESOLUTION

O OO Storing a MARKER in the T 5855 memory is similar to marking your page in a book. It allows you to quickly return to any point on the disc. Press [MARKER] during play at the starting point to be viewed again. Up to 9 markers can be stored in the memory.

RECALLING/CLEARING À MARKER

ge | CNE Press SEARCH during playback Use the navigation buttons to select the marker to be recalled/cleared Press [ENTER] to recall a marker. Or press [CLEAR] to clear a marker. Play resumes from the point corresponding to the selected marker, or Bu = the selected marker is cleared. NOTES + These operations work only with discs for which the elapsed playing time appears in the DVD display window during playback or stop mode. Some subtitles recorded around the marker may fail to appear (DVD). Allthe markers are cleared when the power is turned off or the disc is removed. O © O The T 585 has the excellent ability to up-convert standard video definition contents to high definition video signal. The best possible video resolution is ensured by the sophisticated video processor ofthe T 585. Toggle RESOLUTION] button to step through the possible resolution settings. Refer also to the item on PICTURE SETTING ADJUSTMENT at the VIDEO SETTING section of the REFERENCE page.

The TITLE and MENU buttons are used to display via OSD, the title headings and menus of the DVD and other applicable media Some movie discs may contain two or more titles. Fthe disc has a title menu recorded on it the TITLE button can be used to select the movie title. {The details of operation differ depending on the disc used.) Press [TITLE] and a list ofthe titles on the disc are displayed. Depending on the disc, pressing [TITLE] again will resume play from the scene when [TITLE] was fist pressed Press [ENTER], [PLAY] or the numeric button(s) to select desired title. The selected title now starts playing. Some DVDs have unique menu structures called DVD menus, For example, DVDs programmed with complex contents provide guide menus and those recorded with various languages provide menus for audio and subtitle language. Press [MENU] during play: the DVD menu available on the disc is now displayed. Pressing [MENU] again resumes play from the scene when MENU was first pressed RESUME PLAY When play is stopped, the unit records the point where STOP was pressed and the TV OSD will display Press the [PLAY] button and playback wil resume from this point NOTES + Resume function will be cleared when STOP is pressed twice. Resume function will be cleared when the power is turned off and then ON. Opening the disc tray cancels Resume function. The Resume function may not be available on some DVD/VCD discs.

SLOW Press [SLOW Æh/12>] during playback. The player will enter SLOW mode. Repeatedly press [SLC D] to select the desired speed. To exit Slow Motion mode, press [PLAY]

STILL PICTURE AND FRAME-BY-FRAME PLAYBACK

Press [PAUSE] during playback. Advance the picture frame-by-frame by pressing [PAUSE] repeatedly. To exit still motion mode, press [PLAY]

REFERENCE TROUBLESHOOTING CONDITION No power. The power is on, but the DVD player does not work. No picture. No sound. The DVD player does not start playback. The remote control does not work properly. POSSIBLE CAUSES + The power cord is disconnected + No disc is inserted. + The TV is not set to receive DVD signal output - The video cable is not connected securely. + Unit output setting and TV resolution capabilities mismatch = The equipment connected with the audio cable is not set to receive DVD signal output. + The power of the equipment connected with the audio cable is turned off. + The AUDIO output settings are incorrect + An unplayable disc is inserted. + The rating level is set + The remote control is not pointed at the remote sensor on the DVD player. + The remote control is too far from the DVD player. + The remote control batteries are dead. POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS + Plug the power cord into the wall outlet securely. + Insert a disc. (Check that the DVD or audio CD indicator in the display window is lit) + Select the appropriate video input mode on the TV. + Connect the video cable securely. + CheckTV capabilty. + Check mode of connections (eg. S-Video, Component etc). + Check unit Resolution setting according to TV capabilty and mode of connection + Select the correct input mode of the audio receiver so you can listen to the sound from the DVD player. Turn on the equipment connected with the audio cable. + Check audio output settings as configured in the Audio Setup menu. + Insert a playable disc. (Check the disc type, color system and regional code) + Cancel the rating function or change the rating level + Point the remote control at the remote sensor ofthe DVD player. + Operate the remote control closer to the DVD player. + Replace the remote control batteries

HANDLING DISCS Do not touch the playback side ofthe disc. Hold the disc by the edges so that fingerprints do not get on the surface. Never stick paper or tape on the disc. STORING DISCS CLEANING DISCS Fingerprints and dust on the disc can cause poor picture quality and sound distortion. Before playing, clean the disc with a clean cloth, Wipe the disc: from the center out. O x After playing, store the disc in its case. Do not expose the disc to direct sunlight or sources of heat and never leave it in à parked car exposed to direct sunlight.

Do not use strong solvents such as alcohol, benzine, thinner, commercially available cleaners, or anti-static spray intended for older vinyl records.
