We recommend that you spend some time reading this instruction manual in order that you fully understand all the operational features it offers. You will also find some hints and tips to help you resolve any issues.
Read all the safety instructions carefully before use and keep this instruction manual for future reference.

Battery Installation for the Remote Control
- Press down of the compartment cover, and slide the cover off open the compartment. Place the one accessory CR2032 battery in the remote control according to the polarity markings ("+" and "-") inside the compartment and on the battery.
- Place the cover into the compartment, press down lightly, and push it inside until it snaps on.

Handling the Batteries
- Improper or incorrect use of batteries may cause corrosion or battery leakage, which could cause fire, personal injury or damage to property.
- Only use the battery type indicated in this manual.
- When the battery is exhausted, the remote control will not function. Replace the battery at the same time with new ones.
- Do not install new batteries with used ones and do not mix different types of batteries.
- Do not dispose of used batteries as domestic waste. Dispose of them in accordance with local regulations.
Handling the Remote Control
• Take care of your fingernails when you press and hold the battery release tab.
- Do not drop or cause impact to the remote control.
- Do not spill water or any liquid on the remote control.
- Do not place the remote control on a wet object.
- Do not place the remote control under direct sunlight or near sources of excessive heat.
- Remove the battery from the remote control when not in use for a long period of time, as it could cause corrosion or battery leakage and may result in physical injury and/or property damage including fire.
Remote Control Operation Range
Point the remote control at the unit no more than 5 metres from the remote control sensor and within 60^ of the front of the unit. The operating distance may vary depending on the brightness of the room.


Connections
Connecting to the Mains Socket
Connect the mains cable at the rear of the main unit to the mains socket.

Using Earphones
Connect earphones (∅3.5mm stereo mini plug) to the earphone socket. Adjust the volume control to obtain the desired volume level.
When the earphones are connected, the speakers will automatically mute.

When earphones are connected, the alarm will sound through the earphones instead of the speakers. Unplug the earphones when using the alarm function.
Basic Operation
Powering ON/OFF
When you first connect the unit to the mains socket. The unit will be in STANDBY mode.
- Press the STANDBY/ON button to switch the unit on.
- Press the STANDBY/ON button again to switch the unit off.
- Disconnect the mains cable from the mains socket if you want to switch the unit off completely.
Selecting Modes
Press the CD/DAB/FM button repeatedly to switch between modes (CD/DAB/FM).
Adjusting the Volume
Turn the ◀VOL/SKIP/SELECT▶ control on the unit or press the VOLUME ▼▲ buttons on the remote control to increase/decrease the volume.
Mute Function (Remote Control Only)
Press the MUTE button on the remote control to temporarily stop the speakers emitting sound. The display will show "MUTE" and flash. To cancel mute and restore the sound, press the MUTE button again or the VOLUME ▼▲ buttons, the "MUTE" will disappear from the display.
Setting the Time
When you first turn on your radio it will automatically set the time by searching out the DAB signal. It will continue to search for the clock whilst in DAB mode until it has managed to set the time. If after 10 minutes the clock has not automatically set itself try repositioning the radio to get a better reception.
If the radio cannot find a DAB frequency to set the clock, you can use the FM mode (some FM stations also transmit time and date information).
Alarm Clock and the Wake-up Mode Settings
This unit incorporates an identical Dual Alarm function. You can have two individual alarm wake-up time and wake-up mode settings to wake you with a buzzer tone, your favourite radio station or your favourite CD.
Setting the alarm clock in STANDBY mode or ON mode.
-
Press the ALARM 1 or ALARM 2 button and hold it for a few seconds. The display will shows "Alarm # Set Time" and the hour digits will flash.
-
Turn the VOL/SKIP/SELECT control on the unit or press the SKIP/SELECT buttons on the remote control to adjust the hour digits, and then press the SELECT button to confirm.

- The minute digits will flash. Turn the VOL/SKIP/SELECT ▶ control on the unit or press the SKIP/SELECT ▼ buttons on the remote control to adjust the minute digits, and then press the SELECT ▶ button to confirm.
- The wake-up mode settings will flash on the display. Adjust BEEP TONES / DAB & FM PRESET / Alarm wake-up Volume level by turning the ◀VOL/SKIP/SELECT ▶control on the unit or press the SKIP/SELECT ▼buttons on the remote control. Press the SELECT ▶button to confirm.


Activating the Alarm Function and Selecting the Wake-up Mode
- To activate the alarm function, press the ALARM 1 or 2 button repeatedly to select the wake-up mode, the corresponding wake-up mode will change in sequence on every press as follows:

- Stop pressing the button when the display shows your desired wake-up mode and the alarm is set. The associated alarm on icon will show in the display.
- At the selected wake-up time, the desired wake-up mode will be turned on. It will continue for one hour and then shut down automatically. To stop the alarm sooner, press the ALARM 1 or 2 button once or press the STANDBY/ON ⏻ button to switch off the unit.

- If CD Wake-up is selected and no disc is inserted or recognized, the beep tone will sound instead.
• If DAB Wake-up is selected and the signal is weak, no sound may be heard.
Snooze Function
When the alarm sounds, press the SNOOZE button to temporarily switch off the alarm for 5 minutes. The LCD display will show 42 to indicate that snooze is on. Snooze function will continue for 1 hour from the set alarm time. If alarm 2 is due to go off within 1 hour of alarm 1, it will not activate until alarm 1 has been switched off. If alarm 1 has been switched off then alarm 2 will be activated.
Sleep Function
This function allows you to program the unit to switch off by itself after a set period of time.
- To activate the sleep function, press the SLEEP button repeatedly. The time will change in the below sequence on every press:

- Stop pressing the button when the display shows your desired length of time. The sleep function will be activated in 2 seconds. "S" will show on the LCD display.
- When the sleep time reaches zero, the unit will go off. To turn the sleep function off while the sleep timer is still counting down, press the SLEEP button until "Sleep Off" and "S" disappear from the LCD display.
System Reset
When you move the unit to another part of the country, your pre-tuned and stored DAB stations may no longer be available and you might need to reset the unit back to its original factory settings. To perform a factory reset, please do the following:
- Switch on the unit and select DAB mode.
- Press and hold the MENU ■ button until the display shows "Press SELECT to confirm reset".
-
Release the MENU ■ button and press the SELECT ▶ button once. The display will first show "Restarting ..." and then perform auto scan function.
-
When the scan has finished, the radio will select and display the first alphanumerically found station.

All of your stored DAB & FM presets will be lost once the reset has taken place.
Display Backlight
During ON mode, press the BACKLIGHT button on the unit to switch on the backlight, press the button again to switch it off. During STANDBY mode, press any buttons on the unit or the remote control to switch on the backlight for 5 seconds.
DAB Operation
If the unit is connected to the mains power and then switched on from standby for the first time, the unit will automatically enter into DAB mode and perform the auto scan function. During the scan the LCD display will show "Scanning ..." together with a slide bar that indicates the progress of the scan and the amount of stations that have been found so far.
Once the scan has finished, the unit will select the last alphanumerically found station. To explore the found stations, press the JOG MODE button and then turn the ◀VOL/SKIP/SELECT▶control on the unit. When you find a station that you would like to listen to, press the SELECT▶Button.

If no stations are found after auto scan, "NO station available" will show on the LCD display.

DAB Auto Scan
The auto scan will search for the entire DAB Band III channels. After the scan has finished, the last alphanumerically found station will be automatically selected.

Full auto scan will not replace the DAB stations in the memory. If you want to remove all the previously scanned stations, you will need to reset the system.

To activate auto scan, first press the MENU button to enter the Tune Select Menu. Press the SKIP/SELECT▼buttons on the remote control to select "Full scan", then press the SELECT ▶/|| button to confirm. The display will show "Scanning ..." and a slide bar that indicates the progress of the scan.
-
All the stations that have been found will be stored automatically, to explore the found stations, press the JOG MODE button and then turn the ◀VOL/SKIP/SELECT▶ control on the unit. Press the SELECT▶ button to confirm.

Secondary Services
You may see a “♣” symbol after the name of the station during tuning (press the JOG MODE button, then turning the ◀VOL/SKIP/SELECT▶ control on the unit), this indicates that there are secondary services available to that station. These secondary services contain extra services that are related to the primary station. e.g. a sports station may want to add extra commentaries. The secondary services are inserted directly after the primary station in the station list.
To select the secondary station, turn the ◀VOL/SKIP/SELECT ▶control on the unit until the desired secondary station is displayed, then press the SELECT ▶button. When the secondary service ends, the unit will automatically switch back to the primary station.
Manual Tuning
As well as the auto tune function, you can manually tune the receiver. This can help you when aligning your aerial or when adding stations that were missed while auto tuning.
- Press the MENU ■ button, then turn the ◀ VOL/SKIP/SELECT▶control on the unit to select Manual tune. Press the SELECT▶button. The LCD will now show Manual tune.
- Press the SKIP/SELECT ▼▲buttons to cycle through the DAB channels, which are numbered from 5A to 13F.
- When your desired channel number is selected, press the SELECT ▶/|| button to enter the current multiplex. The top line will now display the multiplex name and the second line will display the signal strength.
- Press the SELECT ▶/|| button to confirm the selection, or press the SKIP/SELECT▼▲ buttons on the remote control to look for another station that you would like to listen to.
Storing Stations
You can store up to 10 of your favourite stations to the memory. This will enable you to access your favourite stations quickly and easily.
- To store a preset, you must first be listening to the station that you would like to save. Press and hold the PROGRAM button, "# [Not set]" will show on the LCD display and the preset number will flash.
- Press the SKIP/SELECT ▼▲buttons to select your desired preset station number and then press the PROGRAM button to confirm. The station will be stored and the screen will then show "Preset # stored".
Recalling a Stored Station
- Once you have saved a station, you can recall it by pressing the PRESET Buttons.
- Press the PRESET ▼▲ buttons to select your desired preset station number.
- If you choose a preset that hasn't been allocated a station, the "Preset empty" will be displayed.

DAB Display Modes
Every time you press the DISPLAY/INFO button, the display will cycle through the following display modes: Time/Date, Frequency, Audio Bit Rate, Signal Strength, DLS, Programme Type, Ensemble/Multiplex (Group name).
The information is displayed on the lower segment of the LCD display.
Time/Date
The broadcaster (Radio station) provides clock and date information automatically so there's no need to manually set this information.
Frequency
The frequency of the present station will be displayed.
Audio Bit Rate
The display will show the digital audio bit rate being received.
Signal Strength
The display will show a slide bar to indicate the signal strength, the stronger the signal, the longer the bar will be from left to right.
DLS (Dynamic Label Segment)
Dynamic label segment is a scrolling message that the broadcaster may include with their transmissions. The message usually includes information, such as program details etc.
Programme Type
This describes the style of the programme that is being broadcast. If the information is not available, the display will show
Multiplex Name
A multiplex is a collection of radio stations that are bundled and transmitted on one frequency. There are national and local multiplexes. Local ones contain stations that are specific to that area.

DAB – unlike normal radio, groups together several radio stations and transmits them on one frequency.

Switching from DAB to FM Mode
To switch the unit to FM mode, press the CD/DAB/FM button repeatedly to select FM. The LCD display will show "switch to FM", and show the frequency.
Auto Scan
To search for an FM station, press and hold the SKIP/SELECT▲button on the remote control to start the forward auto scanning. Press and hold the ▼ SKIP/SELECT button on the remote control to start the reverse scanning. The LCD display will show the frequency being searched. Once a station has been found, the scanning will stop automatically.
Manual Scan
To search for FM stations manually, press the JOG MODE button, then turn the
◀ VOL/SKIP/SELECT▶control on the unit to select your desired frequency. The LCD display will show
Alternatively, press the SKIP/SELECT▼▲ buttons on the remote control until your desired frequency is reached.
Audio Mode
Press the SELECT button to toggle between the Auto or Mono selection.

The unit will automatically switch between stereo and mono mode when it is set to Auto, but you can override this and switch between them manually. This is helpful when receiving poor signal reception.

Display Modes

Programme Type
This describes the "Style" or "genre" of music that is being broadcast e.g. "Rock" or "Classical".
Time/Date
The broadcaster (Radio station) provides clock and date information automatically so there's no need to manually set this information. In the unlikely event that the broadcaster does not transmit any clock information; the LCD display will show
Radio Text
As with DAB, the broadcaster can include a scrolling text that displays information about the current program. If Radio text information is not available, then the LCD display will show
Channel Frequency
This shows the frequency of the current station.

Some recorded files may not be able to be played due to the type and format of disc or condition of the recording.
Playing a CD
Press the CD/DAB/FM button repeatedly to select CD mode
- Open the CD door, and insert a CD with the printed side facing up, then press the CD door gently to close. The total number of the tracks in the disc will display on the display window.
- If there is no disc inside or the CD door is not closed, the display window will display "NO DISC".
- Press the SELECT ▶/II button to start playback, the first track will be played. The display window will also display the number of the currently playing track.
- To interrupt playback, press the SELECT ▶/□ button once again. The time elapsed indicator will flash. Press the SELECT ▶/□ button once more again to resume playback.
- To stop CD playback, press the MENU ■ button.
Selecting a Different Track
- Press the SKIP/SELECT |◀◀▶▶▶ buttons once or repeatedly until the desired track number appears in the display.
Finding a Passage within a Track
- During playback, press and hold the SKIP/SELECT I◀◀▶▶I buttons. The CD is played at high speed and with reduced volume.
- When you recognise the passage you want, release the SKIP/SELECT ▶▶▶▶▶ buttons to resume normal playback.



Programming Track Numbers
You may store up to 20 tracks in the desired sequence. Be sure to press the STOP button before use to ensure no prior program has been set.
- In stop mode, press the PROGRAM button to activate programming. "MEM" and "P-0#" indicator will flash on the display.

Press the SKIP/SELECT ▶▶▶buttons to select your desired track number.
-
Press the PROGRAM button to store the desired track number.
-
Repeat steps 2 and 3 to enter additional tracks into the program memory.

To play your program, press the SELECT ▶/II button. The "MEM" indicator will show on the LCD display.

Repeat Program Play
You may use the program play and the repeat play features together to continuously repeat a programmed playback. First program the desired playback sequence, then press the REPEAT button to select repeating the current track or the entire programmed sequence, the associated repeat icon will be displayed.
Erasing a Program
In stop mode, you can erase the contents of the memory by pressing the MENU button or by opening the CD door. The "MEM" indicator will disappear.
Reviewing the Program
In stop mode, press the PROGRAM button to display your stored tracks.
Random Mode (Remote Control Only)
Press the RANDOM button on the remote control to select RANDOM mode, the display will show "RANDOM" and the tracks will start playing randomly.

To cancel random play, press the RANDOM button again, The "RANDOM" indicator will disappear.
Repeat Mode
You can play the current track or the whole disc repeatedly with REPEAT mode.
- During playback, press the REPEAT button once to repeat a single track. The "REP 1" indicator will illuminate.
- Press the REPEAT button twice to repeat the whole disc. The "REP ALL" indicator will illuminate.
- To return to normal playback, press the REPEAT button repeatedly until all repeat indicators disappear.

Handling Discs
• Do not touch the playback side of the disc.
• Do not attach paper or tape to the disc.

Cleaning Discs
- Fingerprints and dust on the disc cause picture and sound deterioration. Wipe the disc from the centre outwards with a soft cloth. Always keep the disc clean.

- If you cannot wipe off the dust with a soft cloth, wipe the disc lightly with a slightly moistened soft cloth and finish with a dry cloth.
- Do not use any type of solvent such as thinner, benzine, commercially available cleaners or antistatic spray. They may damage the disc.
Storing Discs
- Do not store discs in places subjected to direct sunlight or near heat sources.
- Do not store discs in places subjected to moisture and dust such as a bathroom or near a humidifier.
- Storing discs vertically in a case, stacking discs or placing objects on discs outside of their cases may cause warping.
Hints and Tips
If a problem does occur, it may often be due to something very minor. The following table contains various tips.

Safety Warnings

Damage

Location of Unit
- The unit must be placed on a flat stable surface and should not be subjected to vibrations.
- Do not place the unit on sloped or unstable surfaces as the unit may fall off or tip over.
- The mains socket must be located near the unit and should be easily accessible.

- Avoid extreme degrees of temperature, either hot or cold. Place the unit well away from heat sources such as radiators or gas/electric fires.

Naked Flames
- Never place any type of candle or naked flame on the top of or near the unit.
Moisture
- To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock or product damage, do not expose this unit to rain, moisture, dripping or splashing. No objects filled with liquids, such as vases, should be placed on the unit.
- If you spill any liquid into the unit, it can cause serious damage. Switch it off at the mains immediately. Withdraw the mains plug and consult your dealer.
Ventilation
- To prevent the risk of electric shock or fire hazard due to overheating, ensure that curtains and other materials do not obstruct the ventilation vents.

Safety

Mains Cable

Earphones
- Listening to loud sounds for prolonged periods of time may permanently damage your hearing.

Interference
- Do not place the unit on or near appliances which may cause electromagnetic interference. If you do, it may adversely affect the operating performance of the unit, and cause a distorted picture or sound.
Standby
- The STANDBY/ON button on the remote control does not switch off the unit completely. The unit will continue to draw electricity from the mains supply while in standby. In the interests of safety and to avoid unnecessary energy consumption, never leave the unit in standby while unattended for long periods of time, e.g. overnight, while on holiday or while out of the house. Switch it off and disconnect the mains adapter from the mains socket.
Batteries
- Batteries used in the remote control for this unit are easily swallowed by young children and this is dangerous.
- Keep loose batteries away from young children and make sure that the battery holder tray is secure in the remote control. Seek medical advice if you believe a cell has been swallowed.
