Frequently Asked Questions - RI 300 SENNHEISER

What is the battery life of the RI 300 headset?
The battery life is approximately 5 hours with a fully charged BA 151 battery.
How do I charge the BA 151 battery?
Charge the battery in the transmitter of the Set 150/300, in the L 151-2 charger (for two batteries) or in the L 151-10 charging strip. The first charge lasts 24 hours.
Can I use the RI 300 with a second battery?
Yes, using a second battery allows extended listening. Keep it charging in the transmitter so it is always ready.
How do I clean the ear cushions?
Detach the ear cushions from the headphone system and clean them in warm soapy water. For the housing, use a slightly damp cloth without solvents.
Is the maximum volume dangerous?
Yes, never set the volume to maximum. Prolonged listening at high volume can cause irreparable hearing damage. The sound is excellent even at low volume.
What to do if the battery power drops?
Turn off the receiver and recharge the battery. Symptoms include background noise and slight sound distortion. A second battery can be used in the meantime.
How can I tell if the infrared transmission is optimal?
Make sure there are no obstacles between the transmitter and the receiver. The 'sennheiser' logo should face forward. Transmission is optimal if you can see the transmitter from your position.
What spare parts are available?
Spare parts include the BA 151 battery (Ref. 04146), EP1 black ear cushions (Ref. 04655), white double ear cushions, L 151 charger (Ref. 04457) and L 151-10 charging strip (Ref. 04494).
Can the receiver be used outdoors?
No, use the receiver only indoors. Avoid exposure to direct sunlight and heat sources.
How to recycle a defective battery?
Return the used battery to your Sennheiser dealer, who can provide a new original battery and recycle the old one. NiMH batteries are free of heavy metals.

AREAS OF APPLICATION

Infra-red stethoset receivers for use as additional receivers for existing infra-red transmission systems or for use in conferences and simultaneous translation applications.

VARIANTS

RI 150

Infra-red mono stethoset receiver, designed for use as a personal sound amplifier for people with impaired hearing. It can also be used as an additional receiver for the Set 150 infra-red mono transmission system.

RI 300

Infra-red stereo stethoset receiver, designed for use as a personal sound amplifier. It can also be used as an additional receiver for the IS 300 infra-red stereo transmission system.

ADVANTAGES

With cordless sound transmission, you can be independent from cables!
According to current scientific knowledge, sound transmission by infra-red light poses no risk to health whatsoever.
High reception reliability due to the carrier frequencies of 2.3MHz and 2.8MHz . Fluorescent tubes and digital controls do not use this frequency range.
Lightweight and extremely comfortable to wear - the receiver weighs only 45g , including the rechargeable accupack!

SENNHEISER RI 300 - ADVANTAGES - 1

Insert the BA 151 accupack into the compartment in the receiver.

SWITCHING ON THE RECEIVER ON

Use the rotary switch to switch on the receiver and adjust the volume.

CLEANING / REPLACING THE EAR-CUSHIONS

Use a damp cloth for cleaning your stethoset receiver. Do not use any solvents.

The ear-cushions can easily be removed from the headphones and cleaned with warm soapy water. From time to time, however, the ear-cushions should be replaced for reasons of hygiene. Replacement ear-cushions are available with different degrees of softness:

Black ear-cushions, firmer version

EP1 Cat. no. 04655

White ear-cushions, softer version

EP2 Cat. no. 04656

Please order your ear-cushions from your Sennheiser dealer.

FREE LINE OF SIGHT

Infra-red light is transmitted in the same way as the light from a light bulb. Do not obstruct the path of the light between the transmitter and the receiver, and stay in the room where the transmission is taking place!

Make sure that you wear the stethoset receiver the right way round, with the "Sennheiser" logo at the front.

There is a simple rule: If you can see the transmitter or the infra-red radiator from where you are, transmission can take place without any interference.

VOLUME UP? - NO!

When people use headphones, they tend to choose a higher volume than with loudspeakers. Listening at high volume levels for long periods can lead to permanent hearing defects. Please protect your hearing, Sennheiser headphones have an excellent sound quality even at low volumes.

ACCUPACK OPERATION

  • When the accumpack becomes weak (noise interference and sound distortion are sure signs of a weak accumpack), switch off the receiver and recharge the accumpack. (If necessary, use a second accumpack to listen while the first accumpack is being recharged.)

Recharge the unpack immediately when it is flat. If the unpack is flat but is left in the switched on receiver, this reduces the service life of the unpack ("total discharge").
As far as possible, use the full capacity of an accumulator before you recharge it. Frequent short discharge and recharge cycles prematurely reduce its charging capacity.

CHARGING THE ACCUPACKS

The stethoset receivers are powered by BA 151 accumpacks which can be recharged either separately or in the receivers. Depending on the application, there are different possibilities for recharging the accumpacks.

The BA 151 can be recharged

in the Set 150 and Set 300 transmitters,
in the L 151-2 charger (suitable for charging two individual accompanies) or
in the L 151-10 charging unit.

For commercial use, Sennheiser offers charging and transport/storage units for recharging a larger number of stethoset receivers at a time.

The BA 151 accupack must be charged for 24 hours before first use! Please refer to the corresponding section in the operating manual of your infra-red transmission system or the operating manuals for the chargers.

ENVIRONMENT AND HEALTH

Devices powered by rechargeable accrupacks are kind to the environment. This energy source can be recharged many times. Conventional batteries, on the other hand, must be disposed of as special waste after they have been used just once. If an accrupack should be defective, it is then recycled - the dealer who sold it to you will take it back and will also supply you with a new, original Sennheiser accrupack. (Recycling methods differ in different countries).

RECHARGEABLE ACCUPLUGS HAVE A „CHARGING CYCLE"

Depending on how long your receiver has been in use, you must also recharge the BA 151 accuplug for a certain time. A simple rule of thumb will help you to decide what time is necessary:

Operating time × 3 = recharging time

SENNHEISER RI 300 - RECHARGEABLE ACCUPLUGS HAVE A „CHARGING CYCLE" - 1
Example:
1 hour listening 3 hours recharging

SENNHEISER RI 300 - RECHARGEABLE ACCUPLUGS HAVE A „CHARGING CYCLE" - 2
2 hours listening 6 hours recharging

SENNHEISER RI 300 - RECHARGEABLE ACCUPLUGS HAVE A „CHARGING CYCLE" - 3
3 hours listening 9 hours recharging

OPERATION WITH A SECOND ACCUPLUG

By using a second accuplug, you can increase the listening time with your receiver. The second accuplug is always inserted in the charging compartment of the transmitter to ensure that it is ready and fully charged when it is needed.

If you use your system with only one accuplug, you must stop after about five hours and recharge the accuplug for about 15 hours in the charging compartment of the transmitter.

SENNHEISER RI 300 - OPERATION WITH A SECOND ACCUPLUG - 1

With a second accruplug, you can listen for more than twice the time. Simply place the discharged first accruplug back into the charging compartment. After the (partial) recharge, there is an additional (partial) amount of power available:

IMPORTANT!

  • Keep the receiver away from central heating radiators and electric heaters. Never expose it to direct sunlight.
Use the receiver in dry rooms only.
