PREPARING FOR FIRST TIME USE
- When using the iron for the first time, test it on a piece of old cloth to be sure that the soleplate and the water reservoir are clean.
- It is possible that the iron will discharge some smoke or give off a slight odor during its first usage. This is due to the initial heating of the materials used. This is completely normal and will stop shortly afterwards.
- When not ironing, always have the steam select switch turned to the closed position.
USING YOUR APPLIANCE
Set the steam iron in an upright position and insert the plug into the wall electrical outlet.
For Steam Iron Model GCSTCS2001:
- The indicator light will go on.
- Select the desired temperature on the temperature control dial.
- Once the selected temperature is reached, the indicator light will go off and you can begin to iron. The indicator light will be on every time the iron is heating. The light will turn on and off from time to time while you are ironing since the thermostat automatically maintains the soleplate at the same temperature.
For Steam Iron Model GCSTCS2002:
- The red indicator light will turn on.
- Select the desired temperature on the temperature control dial.
- Once the iron reaches the selected temperature, the red LED temperature indicator light will turn off. The light will turn on and off from time to time while you are ironing since the thermostat automatically maintains the soleplate at the same temperature.
For Steam Iron Model GCSTCS2003:
- The blue LED temperature display will turn on and it will remain on for as long as the iron is plugged in.
- Select the desired temperature using the digital temperature control up and down buttons.
- The blue LED temperature display light will indicate the selected temperature setting and will stay solid on. Once the iron reaches the selected temperature the light at the temperature display will start blinking. The light will go from solid on to blinking and back to solid on from time to time while you are ironing since the thermostat automatically maintains the soleplate at the same temperature.
Another important feature of your steam iron is the 360° swivel cord, which prevents tangling and allows for easy use by both right and left handed people.
DRY IRONING
- Insert the plug in the electrical wall outlet.
- Make sure the steam select switch is in the closed position.
- Select the desired temperature on the temperature control dial (Models GCSTCS2001 & GCSTCS2002)/digital temperature up and down buttons (Model GCSTCS2003).
- Follow instructions from section "Using Steam Your Iron" for your iron model.
- Start dry ironing.
STEAM IRONING
Choosing the Right Water
This steam iron may be used with normal tap water. However, if the water of the region in which you live is especially hard, it is recommended to use distilled water to prolong the life of your iron.
Do not use water that has been desalinated with chemicals.
Filling with Water
- Turn off the iron and disconnect the plug from the electrical wall outlet before filling the iron with water.
- Turn the steam select switch to the closed position.
- Set iron in the position indicated below (figure 2) and fill it with water, no higher than the Max fill level shown on see-through water window.

The spray mist feature is a powerful water spray mist that dampens the fabric to help remove wrinkles from heavy fabrics and to set creases.
Press the spray mist button firmly to start the spray.
DUAL SHOT OF STEAM

This feature allows you to use shot of steam while ironing horizontally or vertically, as the next two sections describe.
SHOT OF STEAM

The shot of steam feature provides an extra burst of steam for deep penetration of stubborn wrinkles. The shot of steam feature can be used with dry or steam ironing provided it has at least a 1/4 tank of water and the temperature control dial is set within the steam band.
- Allow the iron to heat for approximately two minutes.
- Press the shot of steam button several times to prime the pump.
- Press the shot of steam button another three to four times in order to clean the unit.
-
The shot of steam feature is now ready for use. The shot of steam feature can be used continuously with just a short pause between shots. The shot of steam feature is most effective with the iron held in a horizontal position just above the fabric being ironed.
-
If water reservoir runs dry, unplug iron and refill with water. Iron may be filled with water while hot.
NOTE: It may be necessary to re-prime pump before using shot of steam feature again.
VERTICAL SHOT OF STEAM

Vertical shot steam feature allows your iron to function as a garment steamer.
TIP: When using vertical shot of steam on clothing, hang clothing on a clothes hanger for best results. Hanging curtains and drapes may also be steamed.
How to use Vertical Steam:
- Allow iron to warm up (2 minutes).
- Hold iron in a vertical position, with iron close to but not touching fabric you want to steam.
- With your other hand, pull fabric tight.
- Press shot of steam button in approximately 3-second intervals as you move iron across wrinkled area.
WARNING: To prevent risk of burns, keep your hand away from area being steamed.
WARNING: DO NOT steam garments while wearing them; this may result in injuries.
IRONING TEMPERATURE
Check ironing instructions on label of item that you wish to iron. Check temperature settings table for further instructions.
Should specific ironing instructions not appear on label, follow instructions on temperature settings table. This table is only valid for fabrics indicated and does not apply to special textiles with a gloss finish, etc. Textiles with special coatings (such as gloss, relief wrinkles, etc.) are best ironed at very low temperatures. If textile consists of several different types of fibers, always select lowest temperature, i.e. temperature recommended for most delicate fiber in composition (for example, if composition consists of 60% polyester and 40% cotton, you should iron at temperature indicated for polyester).
SETTING TEMPERATURE
- Set iron in an upright position.
- Connect iron to an electrical wall socket.
- Set temperature control dial (Models GCSTCS2001 & GCSTCS2001)/temperature control up and down buttons (Model GCSTCS2003) (figure 4) to the correct ironing temperature as indicated on label or temperature settings table.

CERAMIC NON-STICK FINISH
(Model GCSTCS2001)
- Provides a smoother glide for quick and easy ironing with superior resistance.
- The non-stick coating prevents fabrics and starch residue from sticking to soleplate.
- Avoid all contact of soleplate with metal objects.
NOTE: Scratches in non-stick soleplate do not affect performance of iron.
IONIC TOURMALINE NON-STICK FINISH
(Models GCSTCS2002 & GCSTCS2003)
- Tourmaline technology infuses the soleplate with semi-precious stones, which produce extra negative ions for better results and protection to the fabrics from heat damage.
- The non-stick Tourmaline coating prevents fabrics and starch residue from sticking to soleplate.
- Provides high glide ability for quick and easy ironing with superior soleplate resistance.
ANTI-CALC

Anti-calc feature helps prevent build up of mineral deposits in your iron. This prolongs its life and improves iron's performance.
ANTI-DRIP

Produces steam without dripping, spitting, or leaking through soleplate, even at low temperatures.
3 WAY AUTO-OFF FEATURE

(Model GCSTCS2003 only)
When iron is plugged in, the stand by indicator will light steadily, indicating that there is power to the iron.
If You Leave Iron:
In a horizontal position without moving it, or accidentally tip iron over, it will automatically stop heating after 30 seconds (+/- 5 seconds). The stand by indicator light will start blinking.
In a vertical position (on its heel rest) without moving it, iron will automatically go into stand by mode after 15 minutes (+/- 1 minute). The stand by indicator light will start blinking.
If someone moves iron, it will reset and start heating up again to be used.
IMPORTANT: Indicator light will continue to blink until unplugged or reset.

To reset iron:
Move iron back and forth and allow it to reheat for 2 minutes. Indicator will stop blinking and stay solid on and iron will start heating again.
WARNING: The 3 way auto-off is a safety feature, not a recommended means for turning your iron off.
CARE AND CLEANING
Before cleaning the iron, always make sure that it is disconnected from electrical wall socket and is completely cool.
SOLEPLATE
- Residue on soleplate can be wiped off with a cloth soaked in a solution of water and vinegar.
- Do not use scouring pads, abrasives or chemical cleaning solvents as they may damage finish.
HOUSING
- Housing can be cleaned with a moist cloth and then wiped dry.
- Other than the recommended cleaning, no further user maintenance should be necessary. If for any reason your steam iron should require repairs, do not try to fix it yourself. Take it to nearest Authorized Oster® Service Center.
SELF-CLEANING FEATURE
You should use the self-cleaning feature to maintain optimal performance of your iron. Self-cleaning feature will clean water reservoir and steam vents of accumulated minerals, dust and lint.
- Move steam control back and forth several times to remove debris and minerals from steam valve. This keeps water flowing into steam chamber.
- Fill water reservoir with tap water to "MAX" line.
- Plug in iron and move temperature control dial (Models GCSTCS2001 & GCSTCS2002)/temperature control up and down buttons (Model GCSTCS2003) to the “●●” position, and allow iron to heat for two minutes.

- Hold iron over a sink in a horizontal position.
WARNING: Be careful not to touch iron's hot surfaces.
- Press the self-clean button and hold. Water will begin dripping from steam vents. Slowly rock iron side-to-side and front to back for 30 seconds. When rocking iron, dip nose of iron slightly below rear to make certain water circulates completely.
- Turn iron upside down and allow remaining water to flow out of the fill hole.
- Dry the soleplate with a towel.
-
Plug in iron and turn temperature control dial (Models GCSTCS2001 & GCSTCS2002)/temperature control up and down buttons (Model GCSTCS2003) to the “●●” position. Let iron heat for two minutes and dry out iron completely.
-
Turn temperature control dial (Models GCSTCS2001 & GCSTCS2002)/temperature control up and down buttons (Model GCSTCS2003) to off "Apagado" position. The light will go out, indicating that the iron has turned itself off. Unplug iron and allow it to cool before storing.
STORING YOUR APPLIANCE
- Turn off iron and disconnect plug from wall electrical outlet.
- Set iron in an upright position and let it cool down completely.
- Set steam select switch to closed position.
- Empty out all water remaining in water reservoir by opening its lid and inverting iron over sink.
- Power cord can be wound around heel rest for easier and tidy storing once unit has cooled down. Iron should always be stored in an upright position.
