OPERATION

IMPORTANT: the first time you use the toaster, operate it for at least 5 minutes with no bread in it. This will allow the appliance to burn off oil and dust accumulated in the factory.

  • Place the appliance on a stable surface.
  • Make sure that the crumb tray (D) is correctly assembled in its place and that the bread rack lever (H) is in the UP position.
Take the power cord (A) out of its compartment, unwind it, and plug it into a suitable socket.
  • Insert slices of bread and turn the temperature control (G) to the desired position. A higher number will result in darker toast.
  • Press the bread rack lever (H) down until it clicks into the bottom position.
  • When the toasting cycle has been completed, the toaster will automatically expel the slices of toast. To stop toasting before completion, simply press Stop.

When finished using the toaster, unplug it, wait for it to cool down then clean it and put it away.

DEFROST BUTTON

The Defrost button defrosts bread before toasting it, lengthening the amount of time required for toasting slightly.

The indicator light will come on when the DEFROST function is on.

Insert frozen slices of bread into the slots.

Turn the temperature control to the desired position:

Positions 1-2: for refrigerated bread and thin frozen slices (such as flatbread)

Positions 3-4: for pastries, frozen wafers, refrigerated bagels

Positions 5-6: for thick slices, frozen bagels and hand-sliced bread

Press the lever (H) down until it clicks into the low position.

When the defrosting cycle has been completed, the bread rack will rise and the toast will be expelled. To stop toasting before completion, simply press Stop.

REHEAT BUTTON

The reheat button can be used to reheat slices of bread without toasting them. The indicator light will come on when the REHEAT function is on.

Insert slices of bread into the slots.

Press the lever (H) down until it clicks into the low position.

Press the "Reheat" button.

When the reheating cycle has been completed, the bread rack will rise and the toast will be expelled.

To stop the cycle before completion, simply press Stop.

BAGEL BUTTON

When the Bagel button is pressed, the toaster heats one side of the bread only, idea for toasting bagels and English muffins.

Slice the bagel or English muffin in half and place the halves in the slots with the sliced side facing toward the middle of the toaster, as the inner heating elements only will be heated. Press the bread rack lever (H) down until it clicks into the low position.

Press the Bagel button.

When toasting has been completed the bread rack will rise and expel the toast. To stop toasting prior to completion, simply press Stop.

STOP BUTTON

Press the stop button to interrupt toasting.

ADVICE FOR TOASTING

  • Toasting cooks and dries bread. Different types of bread have different moisture contents, and therefore require differentasting times.
If your bread is slightly dry, set the temperature control to the lowest settings.
  • If using fresh or whole-wheat bread, set the temperature control to the highest settings.
  • Bread with a highly irregular surface (such as English muffins) requires the highest setting.
  • Thick slices (including bagels) require a longer toasting time, in some cases much longer, as more water has to evaporate.
  • Particularly thick slices may even need two toasting cycles.
  • When toasting bread containing raisins and similar additions, remove raisins from the outside of the slice before toasting it, so that they will not fall into the toaster and stick to the grating protecting the heating elements.

  • Bagels should be cut in half before toasting.

  • To toast a single slice of bread, set the temperature control to one of the lowest positions. The toaster is designed to heat the entire volume of two slices; reduce toasting time to avoid burning a single slice.
  • Frozen bread: slices of frozen bread should be heated before toasting using the Defrost function.
  • Pastries and croissants: be careful when toasting pastries and croissants as the filling can become very hot before the outer surfaces are toasted.

Cleaning and maintenance

Always make sure that the appliance is unplugged and has cooled down before cleaning the toaster.

Do not use abrasive cleansers.

Wipe the outside of the toaster with a damp cloth and dry it well. If you wish to use liquid detergent, apply it to the cloth, not the appliance.

To remove crumbs inside the toaster, pull out the removable crumb tray and wipe it with a damp cloth. Put it back in. Never use the toaster without the crumb tray.

To remove any remaining bread crumbs from the toaster, hold it upside-down and shake it gently. Never put a hard metal utensil or a pointed object into the toaster slots, as this could create a hazard for the user and damage the appliance.

  • This appliance is manufactured in compliance with current recycling regulations.

  • Use only original Polti spare parts.
