Important safety instructions
To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock and/or injury to persons, basic safety precautions should always be followed when using electrical appliances:
1 This heating blanket is intended for use as an under blanket only. It is not recommended for futons or similar types of mattresses.
2 This blanket is not designed to be used on an adjustable bed. If using on an adjustable bed, check that the power cord and blanket cannot become caught or crumpled.
3 Ensure that the heating element section of the blanket does not overhang the mattress at any point, and that the fitted skirt system is suitable for the mattress. Ensure that the instructions are followed carefully before using the blanket.
4 Do not use this blanket for infants, the infirm or anyone who is sensitive to heat. For human use only - not for pets.
5 Children should be supervised to ensure they do not play with the blanket.
6 Using for too long at a high setting may result in skin burns.
7 Do not tuck in the blanket.
8 Do not use the blanket while it is folded.
9 Keep the control unit away from open windows.
10 Do not insert pins or other sharp objects into the blanket.
11 Ensure that the blanket is used only with the correct voltage.
12 The flexible power cord and control unit must be kept outside the bed linen.
13 Do not switch "ON" if the blanket is folded or wet.
14 Switch "OFF" and pull the plug out of the socket when not using the blanket.
15 Keep the blanket fully unfolded at all times when in use to avoid overheating. It is important to check the blanket frequently for signs of faults or deficiencies.
16 Bedding should not be folded back while the blanket is switched on. Do not leave heavy objects on the blanket when it is switched "ON", e.g. folded blankets or mattress pads.
17 Ensure that the heating element section is not located beneath the pillow.
18 Do not dry-clean the blanket. Follow the washing instructions in this instruction manual.
19 This blanket is not recommended for people with bed wetting tendencies. They should use a product specifically designed for this condition.
20 If you detect any fault or defect in the blanket, switch off the control unit, pull out the plug and contact an authorised service workshop.
21 Do not use the blanket on or under a water bed.
22 It is recommended that your blanket be inspected by a qualified, authorised person after three years of use.
23 Avoid creasing or crumpling the blanket. The blanket should be rolled up for storage purposes.
24 Blanket is for indoor use only. Not recommended for hospital use.
25 The detachable control(s) supplied with this electric blanket may only be used when connected to the blanket. Do not use the control(s) with and/or connect them to any other appliance.
26 This device is not suitable for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or who have limited experience and knowledge, unless they are under the supervision of or have been trained to use the device by a person responsible for their safety. Precautions must be taken to prevent children playing with the unit.
Compulsory warning
If the power cord is damaged, to avoid hazard it must be replaced by the manufacturer, the latter's service agent or a similarly qualified person. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO OPEN OR REPAIR ANY PART OF THE BLANKET OR CONTROL SYSTEM
Important instructions
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY AND RETAIN FOR FUTURE USE
This blanket has been manufactured to the highest standards and has been inspected and tested to ensure safety, comfort and reliability. Providing that you follow all these instructions carefully, you will ensure many years of trouble-free use.
Operation
This blanket is designed and fully approved for overnight use. It also features a pre-heat facility so that you can warm the bed before getting into it. The time taken to heat the bed depends on the ambient temperature of the room. Expect warming the bed to take 60 – 90 minutes. A cold room or cold bed that has not been used for a while will take longer to warm.
0 OFF
1 Low heat
2 Medium heat
3 High heat, for preheating only
FOOT SONE - foot warmth only on/off switch (only HBW-3)
The blanket must be used at all times with the WILFA control switch supplied (or switches if you have a dual control version). If a switch or cable becomes damaged, it is vital that you discontinue use of the blanket.
NB: It is important to ensure that the pre-heating (3) setting is changed to settings 1, 2 or the "OFF" position before you go to bed.
Important safety instructions
Fitting on the bed
Instructions for fitted skirt system electric blanket (models HBW-1, HBW-2 and HBW-3)
■ Position the blanket on the mattress in such a way that there is room for the pillow.
■ Remove the tags/protection from the fastenings.
■ Pass the middle fastening under the middle of the mattress and through the middle loop on the opposite side. Tie tightly and securely (see Figure 1).

natural_image
Isometric line drawing of a rectangular electronic device with a grid and power cord (no text or symbols)FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE FITTING INSTRUCTIONS MAY RESULT IN THE BLANKET BECOMING RUCHED. THIS WILL TRIGGER THE OVERHEAT PROTECTION SYSTEM AND RENDER THE BLANKET PERMANENTLY DEFECTIVE. THIS MAY INVALIDATE THE WARRANTY.
Care should also be taken when using a down duvet, as the heat will build up more quickly than with other bed linen. Depending on the thickness of your down duvet, it will take only a short time to reach the maximum temperature. This also applies when using extra blankets.
The first time you use your Wilfa electric blanket
Most mattresses and bedding absorb moisture that can harbour dust mites and encourage mould. Wilfa electric blankets effectively prevent these conditions. Once the blanket is fitted correctly, we recommend that you run it on the highest setting for three hours in a well ventilated room to ensure that all moisture is removed from your mattress. During this period, you may notice a slight odour. This is harmless and will dissipate.
Connecting the blanket
Before connecting the blanket, please check that the voltage specified on the blanket label corresponds to the mains voltage in your home.
For dual-control models, each half of the blanket is controlled via a separate switch with its own plug. If you have followed the above instructions, your blanket should now be securely attached to the mattress. Connect the control units to the blanket (see Figure 7). Ensure that the plug is firmly in place, and then connect it to a mains socket and switch on. The flexible cord and switch must be kept outside of the bed and away from open windows. Ensure that they are not exposed to moisture.
ENSURE THAT NOTHING IS PLACED IN THE CONTROL UNIT AT THE POWER OUTLET END. THIS IS LIVE (230V) AND COULD CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY.
Washing instructions
With normal use, it is recommended that you hand wash your blanket once a year.
PLEASE ENSURE THAT THE BLANKET IS SWITCHED OFF AND DISCONNECTED FROM THE MAINS POWER BEFORE ANY CLEANING COMMENCES.
Machine washing
Unplog the blanket from the power socket.
Disconnect the control switch and cord from the blanket by lifting the locking lever over the raised button and pull apart.
Wash on the WOOL setting at 30°C.
Gently stretch the blanket back to its original shape and size before drying without applying clothes pegs to the wired areas of the blanket.
Please ensure that all control units are disconnected from the electric blanket before cleaning (see Figure 3).

ENSURE THAT THE POWER TO THE BLANKET IS SWITCHED OFF AND THAT THE PLUG IS DISCONNECTED WHENEVER DISCONNECTING OR CONNECTING THE CONTROL UNIT FROM/TO THE BLANKET. DO NOT PLACE THE CONTROL UNIT CLOSE TO WATER OR ANY OTHER TYPE OF MOISTURE.
Hand washing
Lift the tab on the socket (Figure 3) before pulling it out.
Place the blanket in lukewarm water (a bath or large laundry tub is ideal) mixed with either a natural wool detergent or mild soap. Soak the blanket for approximately five minutes, then squeeze the soapy water out of the blanket. Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water until no soap suds are visible, and allow the water to drain from the blanket.
Drying
There are two ways of drying your WILFA electric blanket:
- Spread the blanket on a clean, flat surface (e.g. a large table) to dry in a shady area.
- Your blanket may also be dried on a clothes line, provided that it is not creased or folded, and as long as pegs are not used on the wired parts of the blanket.
