Frequently Asked Questions - NO.12 PE-12S WILFA

How do I use the Wilfa NO.12 PE-12S percolator?
First, wash all removable parts. Remove the lid, coffee basket, basket lid, and steel tube. Fill the percolator with cold water up to the desired level (max 1.5 L). Place the coffee basket on the steel tube, add coarsely ground coffee (e.g., French press grind). Assemble and place the top lid. Connect to power, press the on/off button. The red light indicates brewing. When it turns green, brewing is done. Use oven mitts to remove the basket and tube. Replace the lid and serve.
What type of coffee grind should I use?
Use a coarse coffee grind, similar to French press quality. Avoid fine grinds as they may pass through the basket and clog the system, or result in coffee grounds in your cup.
How do I clean the percolator?
Always unplug and let cool. The lid, coffee basket, basket lid, and steel tube can be washed in the dishwasher (upper rack) or with warm soapy water. Wipe the exterior with a damp cloth. Clean the interior with mild detergent, rinse and dry. Do not immerse the body in water. Ensure the washer on the steel tube moves freely.
Why is my coffee weak or watery?
Weak coffee may result from using too little coffee, too coarse a grind, or insufficient brewing time. Ensure you use the recommended amount (adjust to taste) and that the percolator cycles fully. The keep warm mode does not continue brewing, so let the cycle complete.
Why are there coffee grounds in my cup?
This can happen if the coffee grind is too fine, the coffee basket is damaged or not seated properly, or the basket is overfilled. Use a coarser grind and check that the basket lid is securely in place.
How do I descale the percolator?
Fill the percolator with a mixture of 25% vinegar and 75% water, up to max capacity. Assemble all parts and run a full cycle. Discard the mixture, then run two cycles of fresh cold water to rinse. Decalcify periodically based on water hardness.
Can I open the lid during brewing?
No, never open the lid during the brewing cycle. Extremely hot water/coffee may spray out and cause serious burns. If clogging occurs, unplug and wait at least 10 minutes before opening.
What are the safety precautions?
Always unplug when not in use. Do not immerse the base or cord in water. Use on a stable surface. Keep away from children under 8 years. Do not overfill. The appliance has a short cord to reduce tripping. Use handles and knobs to avoid burns.
What parts are replaceable?
The percolator knob, top lid, coffee basket, basket lid, steel tube with spring, and removable power cord can be replaced. Contact Wilfa authorised service for spare parts.
How long does the keep warm function last?
After brewing, the percolator automatically switches to keep warm mode for approximately 30 minutes, then shuts off. The indicator light turns green when brewing is complete.

  1. Place coffee basket on top of steel tube. Add desired amount of coffee into the basket. Distribute the coffee powder evenly, avoid using coffee with too fine grind quality to prevent coffee grounds from slipping through the filter. Choose a coarser quality of coffee, i.e., French press or similar quality, if available. The level indicator on the coffee percolator shows number of cups/volume in litre. 1 cup is equal to 125 ml.

Note: Clogging of water and/or coffee in the coffee basket may occur under the following conditions: The use of too fine size coffee powder or improper cleaning of coffee basket; see cleaning section for more information on how to clean the product properly.

  1. Place coffee basket and steel tube assembly into percolator according to the illustration in figure 3. Put the top lid on top of coffee basket and push it firmly into position on top of the percolator.
  2. Connect the base into standard household 220-240 volt AC wall outlet and press the on/off button, the red light will switch on to indicate that the brewing process has been initiated.
  3. When the indicator light switches to green colour the brewing process is finished. After brewing is completed the unit will go into keep warm mode for around 30 minutes before switching off.

Warning: Make sure the brewing process is completed before removing the lid.

  1. Once brewing has completed, remove the lid carefully and remove the coffee basket and steel tube using protective equipment like an oven mitt or similar. Replace the top lid and the coffee is ready to be served.

Caution: Avoid touching the stainless-steel parts of the percolator without proper protection, as it may cause injury due to hot surfaces.

OPERATING NOTICE

Caution: Never open the top lid during the brewing cycle, extremely hot water/coffee can spill out from the coffee basket and cause serious injury. If water/coffee is not draining from the coffee basket during the brewing cycle, unplug the unit and wait for at least 10 minutes before opening the top lid and checking the coffee basket.
