How to change the blade of the FPJS-1800LK jigsaw?

To change the blade, first remove the battery. Then, lift the blade clamp lever, insert the new blade (teeth facing up and forward), then release the lever to secure it. Make sure the blade is firmly in place before reinserting the battery.

How to adjust the cutting speed?

Use the rotary knob on top of the saw. Turn it to the right to increase speed (maximum position 6). For soft materials, choose high speed; for hard materials, choose a slower speed.

How to make bevel cuts with this saw?

Loosen the two hex screws under the base plate using the provided Allen key. Tilt the base plate to the desired angle (up to 45°), then retighten the screws. The angle can be read on the protractor.

What is the orbital action adjustment (pendulum)?

The amplitude adjustment (levels 0 to III) optimizes the cut according to the material. For soft materials, use levels II or III; for hard materials, use level 0 or I. For curves, use level 0.

What is the battery runtime?

The runtime depends on the battery type and usage. The LCD screen displays the remaining minutes of operation (for Lithium-Ion battery) as well as the charge level (10 bars = full). Use compatible batteries (FPB-1800L or FPB-1800N).

Can I cut metal with this jigsaw?

Yes, the saw can cut metal up to 10 mm thick. Use a fine metal-cutting blade, a slower speed, and set the orbital action to 0. Wear protective gear.

How to use the plunge cutting function?

Place the rounded front of the base plate on the workpiece, turn on the saw, and lower it slowly until it cuts through the material. Then continue the cut normally. You can also drill a starter hole for the blade.

How to clean and maintain the jigsaw?

Regularly clean the ventilation slots with a soft cloth to prevent overheating. Do not use solvents. The machine does not require additional lubrication. Store it in the provided case.

What to do if the saw does not start?

Check that the battery is inserted and locked. Make sure the lock-off button is not engaged. If the problem persists, contact customer service (see warranty card for contact details).

What are the essential safety instructions?

Always wear safety goggles and a dust mask. Do not use the tool in wet conditions. Secure the workpiece with a clamp. Wait for the blade to come to a complete stop before removing the saw.

Wear a dust mask. Working with wood, metals and other materials may produce dust that is harmful to health. Do not work with material containing asbestos!

Before using the appliance

Check the following points:

Has the saw blade lost any teeth and is it • showing cracks or fractures?

If so, replace the saw blade immediately. Is there enough room under the workpiece so that the saw blade does not come into contact with the floor or work table as it moves up and down?

Do the teeth of the saw blade point upwards?• Always wear protective goggles when using • the appliance.

Maintain the appliance carefully.

Do not use the appliance in a wet environment.

Do not use the appliance for material which contains asbestos.

Never leave the jig saw unattended.

Using the appliance

Clamp the workpiece that you will be sawing in • firmly into place.

Remove any wood residue that is near or • stuck to the surface of the saw blade; do not use your hand for this. Switch the appliance off before removing any residue!

Always switch the jig saw on in idle, i.e. switch the jig saw on before bringing it into contact with the workpiece.

When sawing the wood watch out for knots, • nails, cracks and/or dirt deposits. These can cause the saw blade to jam dangerously. Also watch out for this with waste wood. This often requires less careful sawing, so there is a danger that you may not be quite so careful about watching out for irregularities in the wood.

Do not saw workpieces that are thicker than the length of the saw blade.

• Do not touch metal parts of the jig saw when sawing in walls or floors in which there could be electricity cables. Hold the jig saw tightly with both hands on the plastic grip so that you do not touch parts that could become live if you accidentally saw through an electricity cable.
• When you have finished sawing, switch off the appliance first and wait until the saw blade comes to a standstill before removing it from the workpiece.

- Keep the plastic guard in place while the jig saw is in use.

3. MOUNTING ACCESSORIES

Prior to mounting an accessory always remove the battery.

Selecting the saw blade

The jig saw is suitable for all commercially available T-shank saw blades. The profile and the teeth vary is according to the material that you want to saw. A fine tooth will give you a smooth and precise saw cut. Use a narrow profile if you want to saw curves or if you are going to saw figures.

The maximum saw capacity in wood is 70 mm.

To select the right saw, proceed as follows:

• First of all try a saw blade with coarse teeth.
• If you don't get a smooth and precise saw cut, try a saw blade with a finer tooth.
  For plastic, aluminium and steel always use a • saw blade with a very fine tooth.
  For metal, only use saw blades, suitable for metal.

In general you will work faster but less precisely with a coarse tooth than with a fine tooth.

For an optimum result always make sure the saw blade is sharp.

To assemble the saw, proceed as follows:

• Push the saw buckle clamp up and hold.
• Place the saw in the saw buckle. Make sure that the teeth point upwards and forward. The smooth side of the saw must rest against the wheel.
• Push the saw as far into the buckle as possible.
  Secure the saw by gently releasing the saw • buckle clamp. Make sure that the saw blade sits correctly in the saw buckle. A crooked blade can result in an unsatisfactory cut.

Adjusting the bottom plate

Adjust the angle of the bottom plate as follows:

A. Loosen the socket head screws with the Allen key supplied.
B. Turn the bottom plate to the right or left in the desired sawing angle.
You can read this on the protractor. The maximum sawing angle is 45^ .
C. Tighten the socket head screws again.

Connecting and removing the battery

Insert the battery into the base of the • appliance, as shown on the illustration. Push the battery until it latches in.

Press the locking button (4) on either side • before removing the battery, and disengage the battery from the base of the appliance.

Only use batteries of the following type. Using any other batteries could cause serious injury or damage the tool.

CDA1051: FPB-1800L, 18V Lithium-Ion.

CDA1053: FPB-1800N, 18V NiMH.

The following charger can be used to charge these batteries.

CDA1052: FPL-1800 (Lithium-Ion and NiMH).

CDA1054: FPL-1800N (NiMH only).

4. OPERATION

Always follow the safety notes and the relevant safety code.

Switching on and off

This machine is equipped with a safety switch. Start the machine by pressing the "lock off" button (to disengage the switch) and switch on the machine.

Release the (On/Off) switch to switch the machine off.

Speed control

The speed of the saw blade can be controlled with the rotary knob at the top of the jig saw.

The higher the position, the higher the speed.

The highest position is 6. The ideal sawing speed will depend on the profile and the tooth of the saw blade and on the material you want to saw. For soft materials, select a reasonably high speed and a coarse tooth. If you want to saw hard materials, select a lower speed and a fine tooth.

For an optimum sawing result you must set the way in which the teeth of the saw blade grip the material. You do this by adjusting the pendulum (8).

Soft material (wood, plastics etc.): set the • pendulum to level II or III. For a sharp saw cut, use pendulum level 0 or I.

Medium-hard material (hardwood, aluminium • etc.): set the pendulum depending on the application. For thin material use pendulum level 0, or I if you are working with rasps or knives.

Hard material (steel etc.): set the pendulum to • level 0.

Curves: set pendulum to level 0.

You can adjust the pendulum level while the appliance is in operation.

The jig saw is fitted with a guard (10). Make sure that this guard is always mounted correctly while the jig saw is in use.

Sawing

• Switch on the jig saw.
  Place the bottom plate of the appliance on the work piece.
• Move slowly towards the previously drawn sawing line and press the jig saw forward slowly. Press the bottom plate firmly against the work piece. If you do not do this the jig saw is likely to vibrate and the saw blade will break.

Let the jig saw do the work. Do not press too hard on the jig saw.

Cutting in

If the starting position of the work piece to be sawn is not the side, or if no hole has been drilled, you must cut in. To do this, proceed as follows:

Put the jig saw on the rounded front of the • bottom plate.

Switch on the appliance and slowly lower the • jig saw until it touches the work piece.

Let the jig saw cut into the work piece gently • without forcing it.

When you are through the work piece, take the jig saw out of the hole.

Place the appliance in the normal position in • the sawn hole and continue the saw cut.

You can also cut in by first drilling a hole in the work piece. To do this, use a bit that makes a hole big enough for the saw blade. Now you can carry out the steps described under 'Sawing'.

This machine is equipped with an LCD display: To turn the display on, press the display button (13) once. To turn the display off, press the display button again.

The clock (14) and minutes (15) remaining • icons indicate the number of minutes of running time that are available before the battery requires recharging (Lithium-Ion battery only)

The battery icon (16) indicates the amount of • charge remaining in the battery. Each charge bar displayed indicates approximately 10% charge remaining in the battery. A total of 10 charge bars indicates a fully charged battery.

Press the light button to switch the LED work light on. Press the light button again to switch the LED work light off.

Saw blades can be stored in the bottom plate: Pull the bottom blade cover from the bottom • plate.

Insert the saw blade in the bottom blade cover.

Slide the bottom blade cover back into the • bottom plate.

5. SERVICE & MAINTENANCE

Make sure that the machine is not live when carrying out maintenance work on the motor.

The machines have been designed to operate over a long period of time with a minimum of maintenance. Continuous satisfactory operation depends upon proper machine care and regular cleaning.

Cleaning

Keep the ventilation slots of the machine clean to prevent overheating of the engine. Regularly clean the machine housing with a soft cloth, preferably after each use. Keep the ventilation slots free from dust and dirt. If the dirt does not come off use a soft cloth moistened with soapy water. Never use solvents such as petrol, alcohol, ammonia water, etc. These solvents may damage the plastic parts.

Lubrication

The machine requires no additional lubrication.

Faults

Should a fault occur, e.g. after wear of a part, please contact the service address on the warranty card. In the back of this manual you find an exploded view showing the parts that can be ordered.

Environment

To prevent damage during transport, the appliance is delivered in a solid packaging which consists largely of reusable material.

Therefore please make use of options for recycling the packaging.

Faulty and/or discarded electrical or electronic apparatus have to be collected at the appropriate recycling locations.

The warranty conditions can be found on the separately enclosed warranty card.
