Frequently Asked Questions - K7 PENTAX

Which lenses can I use with the PENTAX K-7?

You can use DA, DA L, D FA, FA J lenses as well as those with an A (auto) aperture position. For other lenses, set the parameter [37. Using aperture ring] to [Permitted] in the custom settings menu.

How do I charge the D-LI90 battery?

Use only the supplied D-BC90 charger. Connect the power cord, insert the battery with the ▲ mark facing up, and wait until the indicator turns off (approx. 390 minutes). Do not charge other types of batteries.

What should I do if the screen remains black or shows an error message?

Check that the battery is charged and properly inserted. If the screen does not turn on, remove and reinsert the battery. If an error message appears (e.g., [Battery exhausted]), recharge or replace the battery. Refer to the Error Messages section on page 328 of the manual.

The image stabilizer (SR) makes noise, is this normal?

Yes, it is normal. The Shake Reduction system moves the sensor to compensate for vibrations, which may produce noise when moving the camera (e.g., changing composition). This does not affect image quality.

How do I clean the CMOS sensor of the K-7?

The K-7 has a dust removal system using ultrasonic vibrations (page 318). You can also use a blower after removing the lens. For professional cleaning, contact a PENTAX repair center (fee-based service).

Can I use a non-PENTAX external flash?

It is recommended to use compatible PENTAX external flashes (e.g., AF360FGZ, AF540FGZ). Flashes from other brands may not work correctly or could damage the camera. See the Using the Flash chapter (page 181) for details.

How do I record videos with the K-7?

Turn the mode dial to the Video (∅) position. Use the Live View function to compose the image. Press the shutter button to start and stop recording. The maximum duration depends on the memory card and resolution.

What file formats are available?

You can save in JPEG (various sizes and qualities), RAW (PEF or DNG), or RAW+JPEG. RAW format allows lossless post-processing. RAW images can be developed directly in the camera (page 265).

How do I reset to default settings?

Access the [C Custom Settings] menu or use the Reset function (page 312). You can also clear saved settings by recording the default values via the [Shooting Mode 4] menu (Memory).

What should I do if the memory card is not recognized?

Ensure the card is an SD or SDHC and inserted correctly (label facing the screen). Format the card in the camera (menu [◀ Preferences] > [Formatting]). If the problem persists, try another card or contact customer service.
