Frequently Asked Questions - K50 PENTAX

What is the battery life of the D-LI109 battery?
With a new battery at 23°C, you can take approximately 480 photos without flash or 410 with flash (CIPA standard). Playback time is approximately 270 minutes. Results vary depending on conditions.
Which lenses are compatible with the K-50?
Lenses DA, DA L, D FA, FA J as well as those with an A position on the aperture ring are fully compatible. Other lenses can be used but with limitations (refer to page 290 of the manual).
How to clean the CMOS sensor?
You can use the Sensor Cleaning function in the menu. For stubborn dust, use a blower following the procedure on p.297. For deep cleaning, contact PENTAX after-sales service (fee-based service).
Can I use AA batteries?
Yes, with the battery tray D-BH109 (optional). Use four lithium AA, Ni-MH rechargeable, or alkaline batteries. Set the battery type in the [Preferences 3] menu for accurate charge measurement.
How to set the built-in flash?
Press the flash (lightning bolt) button to raise it. Use the navigation button (▲) in pause mode to change the flash mode (Auto, Red-eye reduction, Slow sync, etc.). See section p.72 for details.
Does the camera record videos?
Yes, the K-50 can record Full HD (1920×1080) at 30 fps videos with sound. You can adjust quality, frame rate, and recording level in the [Video] menu. Maximum duration depends on the memory card.
How to save an image in RAW format?
In the [File format] menu, select RAW or RAW+JPEG. You can also press the RAW/Fx button right after a shot to save a RAW version of the last JPEG image (if the data is still in the buffer).
Which memory card should I use?
Use an SD, SDHC, or SDXC card. For video, choose a high-speed card (Class 10 or UHS-I). Format any new card or one used on another device in the [Format] menu.
How to adjust the viewfinder diopter?
Remove the eyecup, look into the viewfinder and slide the diopter adjustment lever left or right until the AF frame is clear. Replace the eyecup after adjustment.
What to do if the error message 'Memory card full' appears?
Transfer your images to a computer or delete some photos. You can also use a higher capacity card. If the card is protected, check the write-protect switch on the side of the card.
