Which lenses are compatible with the Pentax K-50?
Lenses from the DA, DA L, D FA, FA J series as well as those with an A position on the aperture ring are fully compatible. Older lenses set to a position other than A limit certain functions.
How to use the built-in flash?
Press the Flash pop-up button located on the top of the camera. The flash raises and charges automatically. You can select the flash mode using the navigation button or the menu.
Can I use AA batteries in the K-50?
Yes, with the optional battery holder D-BH109. Use four lithium AA, rechargeable Ni-MH or alkaline AA batteries. Set the battery type in the Preferences 3 menu before use.
How to clean the CMOS sensor?
The camera has a vibration cleaning function accessible via the menu. For deep cleaning, use a blower following the instructions on pp.296-297. Avoid any direct contact with the sensor.
Which memory card should I use?
The K-50 accepts SD, SDHC, and SDXC cards. For video recording, use a high-speed card (Class 10 or UHS-I). Eye-Fi cards are also compatible.
How to activate burst mode or intervalometer?
In the Drive mode menu, select Burst (p.133) or Intervalometer (p.135). You can set the number of shots and interval.
Does the K-50 have image stabilization?
Yes, the Shake Reduction system moves the sensor to compensate for shake. It is enabled by default. For videos, Movie SR provides electronic stabilization.
How to manually adjust white balance?
Press the INFO button to display the adjustment screen, then select White balance. You can choose a preset or use the color temperature (Kelvin). Manual measurement is also possible (p.160).
Can I use an external flash?
Yes, the K-50 is compatible with P-TTL flashes mounted on the hot shoe. It supports wireless and high-speed sync modes (pp.272-280).
How to transfer photos to a computer?
Connect the camera to the computer using the supplied USB I-USB7 cable. Set the USB connection mode to MSC (mass storage) or PTP in the Preferences menu. The photos are then accessible as an external drive.
