How to set the date and time on the Pentax K-50?

When first turned on, the [Initial Settings] screen appears. Use the navigation button to select the language, then set the home city, daylight saving time, and text size. Next, the [Date Setting] screen lets you choose the date format (dd/mm/yy, mm/dd/yy, or yy/mm/dd), the time format (24h or 12h), and then set the month, day, year, and time. Press OK to confirm.

What batteries or power sources can I use with the K-50?

The camera primarily uses the supplied rechargeable lithium-ion battery D-LI109. Optionally, you can use the battery holder D-BH109 with four AA batteries (lithium, Ni-MH rechargeable, or alkaline). For AA batteries, set the battery type in the [Preferences 3] menu before use. The AC adapter K-AC128 is also available as an option.

How to clean the CMOS sensor of the K-50?

The K-50 features a dust removal system that vibrates to shake dust off the sensor. You can manually activate cleaning via the [Sensor Cleaning] menu. For deeper cleaning, it is recommended to contact an authorized PENTAX service center, as the sensor is a precision part. Never use aerosol sprays or solvents.

How to use the built-in flash on the K-50?

To use the built-in flash, press the [Flash Pop-up] button (flash icon) to raise it. In AUTO mode, the flash fires automatically when needed. You can change the flash mode (Forced flash, Red-eye reduction, Slow sync, etc.) using the navigation button in standby mode or in the menu. The flash retracts manually by pushing it back down.

Which memory card is compatible with the Pentax K-50?

The K-50 accepts SD, SDHC, and SDXC cards. It also supports Eye-Fi cards for wireless transfer. For videos, use a high-speed card. Before use, format the card in the camera via the [Format] menu.

How to take a photo in Live View mode?

Press the [Lv/ ] (Live View) button to display the live image on the screen. You can compose your photo and press the shutter button fully to capture the image. During Live View, you can use contrast-detect autofocus or manual focus. Press the Lv/ button again to exit Live View mode.

How to reduce camera shake when shooting?

The K-50 features Shake Reduction (SR) which reduces camera vibrations. Make sure this function is activated (hand symbol on the screen). You can also use a tripod or the self-timer. In video mode, Movie SR is available to stabilize footage.

How to transfer photos to a computer?

Use the supplied USB cable (I-USB7) to connect the camera to the computer. Set the USB connection mode in the [USB Connection] menu to MSC (for direct file access) or PTP (for software transfer). Install the SILKYPIX Developer Studio software from the CD-ROM for RAW file processing.

What to do if the camera displays 'Battery exhausted'?

Replace or recharge the battery. If using AA batteries, check their type and polarity. In cold weather, battery performance decreases; keep spare batteries warm. If the message persists with a charged battery, there may be a contact issue. Clean the battery contacts with a dry cloth.

How to reset the camera settings to factory defaults?

Go to the [Preferences 3] menu and select [Reset]. You can choose to reset shooting settings, custom settings, or all settings. Confirm with OK. Note that this erases your custom settings but not the photos on the memory card.
