Frequently Asked Questions - OPTIO W60 PENTAX

How to charge the battery of the Optio W60?
Use the included D-BC78 charger. Connect the power cord to the charger, then insert the D-LI78 battery with the PENTAX logo facing up. The charge indicator lights up and turns off when charging is complete (approx. 150 min). Only charge D-LI78 batteries.
Is the camera really waterproof? Can I use it underwater?
Yes, the Optio W60 is waterproof to IP58 standard (JIS Class 8 for water and Class 5 for dust). You can take photos underwater up to 4 m deep for up to 2 hours. Make sure to close the protective cover and do not open the battery/card compartment underwater.
What to do if the flash does not fire?
First check the flash mode: it should be set to Auto or Flash On (not Flash Off). Some shooting modes (such as Night Scene, Video, or Sport) disable the flash. See the mode table on page 102 of the manual.
How to transfer photos to a computer?
Use the included USB cable. Before connecting, set the USB connection mode to [PC] in the Settings menu (p.201). Connect the camera to the computer, then transfer the images. You can also use an SD card reader.
Can the internal memory store many photos?
The internal memory is approx. 36.4 MB, which can store about 9 photos at 10M/★★★ quality. For more capacity, use an SD/SDHC memory card (up to 32 GB recommended).
How to use the underwater mode?
Turn the mode dial to underwater mode (fish icon). The camera automatically adjusts white balance and settings for underwater photos. Activate underwater video mode to record movies. See pages 69-70.
The screen stays black or does not turn on, what to do?
Check that the battery is charged and correctly inserted. Make sure the protective cover is properly closed. If the screen stays black, remove the battery, wait a few seconds and reinsert it. If the problem persists, contact a PENTAX repair center.
How to clean the camera after use at the beach or underwater?
Rinse the camera with fresh water after use at sea to remove salt and sand. Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe. Never use chemicals (alcohol, detergents) that could damage the waterproof seals. Make sure the camera is dry before opening the cover.
Can I use the camera with regular batteries?
No, the Optio W60 exclusively uses the rechargeable lithium-ion battery D-LI78. Using other types of batteries could damage the camera. An optional AC adapter (K-AC78) can be used for extended power.
How to reset the camera settings?
Go to the [Settings] menu, select [Reset] (p.208). This option resets all settings (except date, language, and world time) to factory defaults. Confirm with OK.
