How to charge the battery of the Optio 550?

Use the provided D-BC7 charger. Connect the AC power cord to the charger, then place the D-Li7 battery into the charger with the label facing up. The red indicator shows charging, green when finished (approx. 180 min).

How to insert the SD or MultiMediaCard?

Open the card/battery compartment cover. Insert the card with the symbol facing the lens and the connector toward the slot until it clicks. Close the cover. To remove, press the card to eject it.

How to take a photo in automatic mode?

Turn on the camera, set the mode dial to P (Program). Frame the subject on the LCD monitor, then press the shutter button halfway for focus, then fully to take the photo.

How to set the white balance?

Press MENU/Fn in capture mode, select [White Balance] in the [Capture Settings] menu. Choose a preset (e.g., Daylight) or set manually by pointing at a white sheet. Confirm with the OK button.

The flash does not fire, what to do?

Check the flash mode: press the ⓷ button to select a mode that allows flash (e.g., Forced flash). Flash is disabled in Super macro, Continuous, Infinity-landscape, and Fireworks modes. Charge the battery if the red indicator blinks.

How to transfer photos to a computer?

Use the provided USB cable. Connect the camera to the computer (turn off then on). Install the ACDSee software from the CD-ROM (Windows) or use a card reader. On Macintosh, the software is also provided.

How to protect an image from deletion?

In playback mode, display the image and press the O button. The image is protected and cannot be deleted until protection is removed.

How to set the date and time?

Go to the [✱ Preferences] menu > [Date Setting]. Use the navigation buttons to change month, day, year, hour, and minutes. Select 12 or 24-hour format. Confirm by pressing the OK button when the clock reaches 00 seconds.
