How do I descale the Wilfa Svart Optimal coffee maker?

Use a commercially available descaling agent. Run the solution through the brewer, then run clean water through twice to rinse.

What type of coffee filter should I use?

Use a paper filter size 1x4. We recommend dampening the filter before brewing to remove any paper taste.

Can I use the glass jug on a stove or in a microwave?

No, never use the glass jug on hotplates or in a microwave oven. It is only for use with the coffee maker.

How do I start brewing?

Fill the water tank, place a filter with coffee, lock the filter holder, turn on the power switch, then press the flashing start button.

What coffee grind is recommended?

Use filter ground coffee (medium grind). We recommend about 65 g per liter of water.

Why does the start button flash?

The flashing indicates the brewer is on standby. Press it to begin brewing. It will stay lit during brewing and the 40-minute keep-hot cycle.

Can I serve coffee before the brewing cycle ends?

We do not recommend it, as it will diminish the final result. The drip stop prevents spills if you remove the jug early.

How do I clean the coffee maker?

Clean the exterior with a damp cloth. The filter holder, glass jug, and lid are dishwasher safe (top rack). Never immerse the base.

Is the coffee maker safe for children to use?

Children 8 years and older can use it under supervision. Children under 8 must be kept away from the unit and cord.

What should I do if the power cord is damaged?

To avoid hazard, the cord must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent, or a similarly qualified person. Do not use until repaired.

General safety instructions

• Read the instruction manual carefully before using the unit, and retain the instructions including the guarantee, receipt and if possible the box with internal packaging.
• The unit is only designed for private use, and for the intended purpose. It is not intended for commercial use.
• Keep the unit away from sources of heat, direct sunlight, moisture and sharp edges.
• The unit must not be operated with wet hands. Pull out the plug immediately if the unit is damp or wet. Must not be submerged in water.
• Must not be used outdoors.
• Do not allow the cable to hang over the edge of the table or work surface, or come into contact with hot surfaces such as stove tops, etc.
• When the unit is to be cleaned or put away, the power switch must be turned off and the plug must be pulled from the power socket (pull the plug, not the cord).
• Regularly check the unit and cord for damage. Do not use the unit if it is damaged.
• Do not try to repair the unit yourself. Always contact an authorised service facility.
• When the unit is cleaned after use, it must not be submerged in water or any other fluid.
• The heating element's surface may still be warm after use.

• Warning – damage may be caused by misuse of the unit.

• This unit may be used by children aged 8 years and up, provided that they are supervised, or have received instruction regarding how to use the unit in a safe manner, and if they understand the dangers involved. Cleaning and maintenance of the unit shall not be carried out by children, unless they are over 8 years of age and under supervision.

Check that the voltage where you shall use the unit is the same as that specified on the unit. Details can be found on the label on the unit's base plate.

When using the unit for the first time

Read these instructions carefully and retain the instruction manual for future reference. Please run cold water through the unit without using a coffee filter or coffee prior to using the unit for the first time.

Operation

Place the Wilfa Svart Optimal on a flat surface. Plug the power cord into the socket. Fill the water tank with cold water to the desired amount. Place a filter paper (1x4) in the filter holder. Place the recommended amount of coffee into the filter.

We recommend that you use filter ground coffee, approx. 65 g per litre of water. Experiment with the quantities for the first few uses until you find out how much coffee you think is best. We also recommend that you use our WILFA GRAM STÅL scale with 1 g intervals for best results.

Place the filter holder in the bracket and twist to the left to lock into position.

Press the power switch. The start button will flash.

Press the start button, which will then light up, in order to start the percolation process.

When the percolation process is complete, the unit will switch over to the "keep hot" position for up to 40 minutes. The start button will remain lit during this time.

The coffee should be served fresh. Turn off the power switch when you have finished using the coffee brewer.

Tips

• Dampen the coffee filter in order to remove any unwanted taste prior to percolating.
• Always use fresh coffee. You will obtain the best results if the coffee you use is freshly ground. Use our WILFA NYMALT coffee grinder to grind the coffee. Using different degrees of grinding will affect the coffee's extraction time.
• Use a separate jug to fill the water tank with water. Do not use the glass jug, since this may contain traces of coffee.
• The enclosed filter holder has an automatic drip stop. This is to prevent unnecessary spills after percolating. Wilfa does not recommend serving coffee before the percolation process is completed, since this will diminish the final coffee result.
• If even hotter coffee is desired, the glass jug can be rinsed with hot water prior to percolation.
• If the coffee brewer has not been used for a while, cold water should be run through the unit prior to using.

Cleaning

• Use a cleaning agent intended for use in coffee brewers and run through the unit. Remember to run clean water through the unit after the cleaning process has been completed.
• If necessary, the unit can be cleaned externally using a clean, damp cloth.
• The filter holder, glass jug and lid can be washed in hot soapy water or washed in the top level of a dishwasher.
• Never wash other parts of the coffee brewer in a dishwasher.
• Never use strong detergents, scouring powder, steel wool or other abrasives on any part of the coffee brewer.
• Descaling should be performed as needed. Use a commercially available descaling agent.

Environmental Instructions

• Product must not be disposed as household waste when it is not used anymore. It must be delivered to a collection point for recycling of electrical and electronic appliances. The symbols on the product, the user manual or on the packaging shows the appropriate disposal methods.
• The materials can be recycled, as indicated on the label. By recycling or otherwise reusing old appliances, you give an important contribution to environmental protection.
• Contact your local waste disposal service to learn more about how you can deliver your unit.
