How do I set the clock on the Hanover AC928A2CA microwave?
Press the Timer/Time button twice. The hour indicator flashes. Turn the control dial to set the hour, then press Timer/Time again. The minute display flashes. Turn the dial to set minutes and press Timer/Time to confirm. The clock uses a 24-hour format.
How do I activate the child safety lock?
Press and hold the Stop/Delete (eco) button for about 3 seconds. The safety locking mechanism display appears. To deactivate, press and hold again. The lock only works in sleep mode.
What should I do if the microwave does not start?
First, check that the mains plug is fully inserted and the socket works (test with another device). Ensure the cooking chamber door is properly closed. If the display shows nothing, check the fuse or circuit breaker. If the problem persists, contact service (see manual).
Can I use metal containers or aluminum foil in this microwave?
No. Metal can cause sparks and damage the appliance. Only use microwave-safe dishes (fire-resistant glass, ceramic, microwaveable plastic). For grill or convection modes, heat-resistant materials are required. Never use metal in microwave or combi modes C-1 and C-2.
Why is my food not heating evenly?
Uneven heating often occurs because the dish was not stirred or turned halfway through cooking. Also, check that the glass rotary plate rotates freely and is correctly positioned. Use flat, round containers for better distribution. For defrosting, separate pieces when prompted.
How do I clean the microwave properly?
Unplug the microwave and let it cool. Clean the interior with a soft cloth and warm water with mild detergent. Do not use abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, or steam cleaners. The glass rotary plate can be washed in the dishwasher. Dry all surfaces before closing the door.
What accessories are included and how do I use them?
Included: Grill pan, Grill rack (high and low settings), Glass rotary plate, Guide ring, and Rotary plate drive. The glass rotary plate must always be used. The grill rack and pan are only for grill, convection, and combi modes C-3 and C-4. Never use them in microwave-only mode.
How do I defrost food by weight?
Press the Defrost button once. Use the control dial to enter the weight (100 g – 2000 g, steps of 10 g up to 1000 g, then 100 g). Press START/+30 Sec. to begin. Halfway through, the microwave beeps; open the door, turn or separate the food, close the door, and press START to continue.
What are the different microwave power levels?
There are 5 levels: P10 (90 W) for gentle defrosting; P30 (270 W) for rice, pasta, custard; P50 (450 W) for beef dishes; P80 (720 W) for roasts, cheese sauces; P100 (900 W) for quick heating. Adjust using the Heating mode button and control dial.
How do I use the convection mode?
Press Heating mode and select convection. Set temperature (140°C – 230°C) using the control dial. Press START to preheat. When temperature is reached (two beeps), open the door, place food, close door, set cooking time (up to 95 min), and press START. Use the lower grill rack for convection.

Risk of electric shock!

The appliance works with 230 V\~/50 Hz mains voltage. Touching live parts may result in severe injury or death.

■ Only use the appliance indoors. Do not use in wet rooms or in the rain.
■ Do not use or continue to operate the appliance if
– there are visible signs of damage, e.g. the connection cable is defective,
– the cooking chamber door is damaged or broken,
– smoke begins to form or there is a burning smell,
– it produces unusual sounds.

In such events, remove the mains plug from the socket and contact our service department (see 'Service' on page EN-46).

■ The appliance corresponds to protection class I and may only be connected to a plug with a protective conductor that has been installed properly. When connecting, make sure that the voltage is correct. You can find more detailed information about this on the nameplate.

■ Connecting the device to a socket strip or multi-plug is not permitted and may result in fi re.
■ Do not operate the appliance with an external timer or a separate remote control system.
■ Lay out the mains cable in such a way that it does not become a trip hazard.
- Keep the appliance, mains plug and mains cable away from naked fl ames and hot surfaces.
- Do not kink or pinch the mains cable or lay it over sharp edges. This can result in a break in the cable.
■ If the mains cable of the appliance is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, through the customer service department or by a qualified specialist.
■ If the mains plug is no longer accessible after installation, an all-pole disconnecting device complying with overvoltage category III must be connected to the house wiring with a contact gap of at least 3 mm; this includes fuses, circuit breakers and contactors.
■ Do not put any objects in or through the housing openings, and also ensure that children cannot insert any objects into them.
■ Always take hold of the mains plug itself, not the mains cord.
■ Never touch the mains plug with wet hands.
■ Never immerse the mains cable or plug in water or any other liquids.
■ In the event of a fault, and before cleaning and maintenance, pull the mains plug out of the socket.

■ Inspections and repairs to the appliance may only be carried out by authorised specialists, e.g. our Service department (see 'Service' on page EN-46).

Carrying out repairs to the appliance yourself could result in damage to property or personal injury and will invalidate any liability or warranty claims. Never try to repair a defective or suspected defective appliance yourself.

■ Only parts corresponding to the original appliance specifications may be used for repairs. This appliance contains electrical and mechanical parts which are essential for protection against potential sources of danger.

■ Never attempt to change the cooking chamber light.

■ Do not touch parts of the unit housing.

■ Allow the oven and accessories to cool before cleaning.

■ When removing dishes from the cooking chamber, always use dish-cloths or oven gloves.

■ Food that has been heated up in the microwave is sometimes heated unevenly. The containers should not get as hot as the food inside. Please therefore ensure to check the temperature of any food thoroughly and carefully, especially for children.

■ Before heating up baby food, please remove the screw cap and suction teat from the feed bottle.

■ The contents of feeding bottles and baby food jars shall be stirred or shaken, and the temperature checked before consumption in order to avoid burns.

■ Set the power level and time exactly in accordance with the packaging instructions.

■ Never heat food or liquids in tightly closed containers! These can explode in the appliance or cause injury during opening.

- Shellfi sh and crustaceans, eggs in the shell or whole hard-boiled eggs should only be heated with microwaves if they are heated in special containers or if holes have been punctured in the shell/skin before cooking. Otherwise, such foods may explode, even after microwave cooking is completed.

Fire hazard!

■Improper handling of the appliance may result in fire and damage to property.

- In order to ensure sufficient air circulation, the prescribed minimum distances must be complied with (see 'Start-up' on page EN-40).

■ Only use containers made of microwaveable, heat resistant material.

■ Please ensure to closely monitor the heating up or cooking of dishes contained in flammable materials such as plastic or paper containers. There is a risk of these igniting.

■ Do not place any objects (cookery books, dishcloths etc.) in the cooking chamber. Accidentally switching on the appliance can cause damage or even ignition.

■ Do not use the appliance to dry dishes or clothing or to heat up hot water bottles, slippers, sponges, moist cleaning cloth or similar items. This can lead to injury, ignition or fire.

■ Never heat flammable objects or dishes containing alcohol in the appliance.
■ Never use the appliance to fry or heat oil! The oil temperature cannot be monitored.
■ Do not use any baking paper or similar items with the Grill or Combi modes.

Risk of injury!

The appliance is heavy and bulky. Seek the help of another person during transport, when setting up and positioning.

■ Do not use the door handle for carrying.
■ Do not use the door as a step or for support.

! NOTICE

Risk of damage to property!

Improper handling of the appliance can lead to property damage.

■ Do not use sharp objects to unpack the appliance.
■ Do not lift the appliance by the door handle.
■ Never remove the cover on the right-hand wall of the cooking chamber. It serves to protect the magnetron, which emits the microwaves.

■ Never use the appliance without the rotary plate.
■ Never operate the appliance in microwave mode when empty!
■ Always place cooking containers on the rotary plate. This prevents liquid from seeping into the appliance if it should boil over.
■ Only heat plastic containers from the freezer for as long as is needed until the food can be decanted into another container.
■ The presence of any metal in the cooking chamber can cause sparks when operating the microwave or when using the Combi mode! This can destroy the appliance and the viewing pane! Do not use metal pots, metal pans, metal lids, or crockery with metal parts (such as gold edges) under any circumstances.
■ Do not use metallic food or drink containers when heating in a microwave appliance.
■ Only dishes suitable for use in microwave cooking appliances may be used.
■ Do not use any aluminium foil, due to the fact that this can also cause sparks when coming into contact with the cooking chamber walls.
■ When heating food in plastic or paper containers, keep an eye on the oven due to the possibility of ignition.
■ When in grill, convection, or multi-function mode, do not use any porcelain, ceramic or plastic containers or fi lm wrap that cannot withstand high temperatures!

■ Do not exceed a weight of 4 kg on the glass rotary plate. Risk of breakage!
- Do not place the hot rotary plate on a cold surface such as, for example, a work surface made of granite or tile. Otherwise, the rotary plate could shatter. Always place on top of a suitable mat.
■ Do not use any damaged containers! They can break and the leaked contents could damage the inside of the appliance.
■ If accessories (glass rotary plate, grill rack) is not completely inside the cooking chamber, the viewing window may become scratched when closing the appliance door. For this reason, always push accessories all the way into the cooking chamber.
■ If the crockery or metal plate is not placed fully inside the cooking chamber, the viewing window may become scratched when the cooking chamber door is closed. Please therefore ensure to place all parts completely in the cooking chamber.
■ Use only the temperature sensor recommended for this appliance (for appliances with the temperature sensor option).
■ The oven should be cleaned regularly and any food deposits removed.
■ Failure to maintain the oven in a clean condition could lead to deterioration of the surface that could aversely affect the life of the appliance and possibly result in a hazardous situation.

■ Please clean the appliance regularly, and remove any traces of food leftovers immediately.

■ When cleaning, please note:

- Under no circumstances should sharp, coarse, sodium carbonate-based, acidic, solvent-based or abrasive cleaning agents be used. All-purpose cleaners with a neutral pH are recommended.

– The surfaces and door glass may become damaged by unsuitable cleaning agents. Use care products only on the outer surfaces.

– Use only soft cloths for cleaning.

- Please ensure that no water seeps into the unit housing.

– The appliance shall not be cleaned with a steam cleaner.

■ The oven bulb serves exclusively to light up the cooking chamber. It is not suitable as a light source for a room.

Information about microwaves

What are microwaves?

Microwaves are electromagnetic waves. As with radio and TV, microwaves are also invisible and intangible.

Microwaves

– are reflected by all metals,
– can penetrate glass, porcelain, plastic and paper,
– are absorbed by foodstuffs.

What effect do microwaves have on foodstuffs?

– The microwaves penetrate foodstuffs to a depth of approximately 3 cm.
– The water, fat and sugar molecules are heated up (dishes with a high water content are heated up most quickly).
- This heat then slowly penetrates the entire dish and leads to the dish being defrosted, heated and cooked.
– Due to the fact that the individual elements of the dish are heated unevenly, it is important to stir or turn the dish over to ensure that it is cooked through evenly.
– The cooking chamber and the air in this chamber are not heated. The food container is primarily heated by the hot food itself.
- When heating liquids, a so-called "boiling delay" can occur. The liquid then reaches boiling temperature without any outward visible sign of boiling. Even a small vibration can cause the liquid to squirt out suddenly, e.g. when being taken out of the appliance.
- Every dish requires a certain amount of energy for cooking or defrosting – a good rule of thumb is “high-power, low time” or “low power, high time”.

How does a microwave oven work?

– A microwave generator, the so-called magnetron, generates the microwaves and disperses them into the cooking chamber.
– The cooking chamber walls and inner screen reflect microwaves, thus presenting them from being emitted out of the cooking chamber.
– The glass rotary plate (2) ensures that the microwaves are distributed evenly through the food.
– The microwave's power can be set to various levels.
– The appliance switches off

– after the selected time has elapsed,
- when opening the cooking chamber door (9),
- by pressing the (27) button twice

Applications

The Microwave mode is ideally suited to defrosting smaller portions as well as the preparation of:

– Stews, soups, sauces
– Meat without crusts
- Steamed fish
- Vegetables
– Side dishes (rice, boiled potatoes, some types of pasta)
- Hot drinks

! NOTICE

Risk of damage to property! Improper handling of the appliance can lead to property damage.

■The presence of any metal in the cooking chamber can cause sparks when operating the microwave or when using the Combi mode. This can destroy the appliance and the viewing pane. Do not use metal pots, metal pans, metal lids, or crockery with metal parts (such as gold edges) under any circumstances.
■ Metallic food or drink containers must not be used to heat food in a microwave appliance.
■ Only dishes suitable for use in microwave cooking appliances may be used.
■ When heating food in plastic or paper containers, the cooking appliance should be frequently monitored for possible ignition.
- When in grill, convection or combi mode, do not use any porcelain, ceramic or plastic containers or film wrap that cannot withstand high temperatures.
■ Do not use baking paper or similar!
■ Containers that become hotter than the food inside them are not suitable for microwave cooking. Do not use such containers.

The appliance has a range of operating modes: Microwave, grill, hot air and combi mode. Always choose the appropriate crockery for the different cooking modes. Please also ensure to observe the manufacturer's guidelines. Unsuitable crockery can lead to the appliance becoming damaged.

For microwave and combi mode

Use only microwave-suitable crockery. This includes:

– fire-resistant glass, ceramic, porcelain
– fire and frost resistant glass ceramics
– High heat resistant and microwaveable plastic (e.g. oven bag)

Practical tips

The correct cooking temperature

Given that microwaves react with varying intensity to water, fat and sugar, the cooking time depends significantly on the composition of the dish.

  • Dishes with a high fat or sugar content (doughnuts, puddings, fruitcakes) cook through more quickly and reach higher temperatures faster than other dishes. Please ensure to comply with the recommended cooking times, as the dishes may otherwise burn and the device can become damaged.
  • Dishes that have a high water content (fish, vegetables, sauces) cook faster than “dry” dishes.
  • "Dry" dishes (rice, grain products, dried beans) cook very slowly. Please add a little water here before cooking.

The correct quantity of food

The larger the quantity to be prepared, the longer the cooking time. If, for example, a potato takes 4 minutes, then two potatoes will take 7 minutes.

Rule of thumb: Twice the quantity requires approximately twice the amount of time.

  • Small food items cook more quickly than large food items. And food items of equal size cook through more evenly than food items of different sizes. Whenever possible, portion the foodstuff into equal amounts. Be sure to consider this when freezing food down.
  • When defrosting, size and form play a key role. Small, flat food portions defrost faster and more evenly than larger, thicker food portions. Separate the defrosting parts during the defrosting process, as this allows the food to defrost more quickly.

Order of dishes

In order to achieve an equally thorough cooking result, the correct arrangement of the dish must be observed:

  • Arrange dishes containing several identical elements (potatoes, meatballs, hamburgers) in a circle within the container, and leave the middle section free.
  • When working with food of different sizes, place the smaller or thinner pieces in the middle, as they are cooked less intensively there.
  • When cooking unevenly shaped food (e.g. fish) place the flatter or end part towards the middle.
  • Lie thin slices of meat on top of one another or in a criss-cross fashion.
  • Place the thicker slices and pieces of meat (roast, sausages etc.) close together.
  • Please heat any meat juice or sauces in a separate container. Only fill it to 23 .

Piercing and scoring

Excess pressure can be caused in many dishes when heating them through. It is therefore recommended to pierce or score certain dishes, in order to prevent them from bursting.

  • Shellfish, seafood and eggs in their shells can burst easily when exposed to microwaves. This can be avoided by using specific cooking containers for these food stuffs, which are available from specialist retailers.
  • Please ensure to pierce any dishes containing shells or skins (e.g. potatoes, tomatoes, sausages, aubergines, egg yolk), in order to avoid them bursting.
  • Please ensure to score the skin of the entire fish, in order to avoid it bursting open.

Stir and turn

Hanseatic AC928A2CA - Stir and turn - 1

WARNING

Risk of burns!

Food that has been heated up in the appliance can sometimes be unevenly heated. The containers should not get as hot as the food inside.

■ Please therefore ensure to check the temperature of any food thoroughly and carefully, especially for children.
■ The contents of feeding bottles and baby food jars shall be stirred or shaken, and the temperature checked before consumption in order to avoid burns.

  • Baby food in particular must be stirred carefully to avoid burns. The temperature of the food must be checked by testing a small sample.
  • When using poultry, dishes containing raw egg and when heating up food, please ensure that these are thoroughly cooked, in order that pathogens such as salmonella are completely destroyed.
  • Stirring and turning the dish halfway through the cooking time is especially important, due to the fact that microwave dishes are not evenly heated through.

Tips on defrosting

Hanseatic AC928A2CA - Tips on defrosting - 1

WARNING

Health hazard!

The defrost water can contain harmful bacteria, especially with meat and poultry.

■ Avoid any physical contact.
■ Pour away the defrost water and do not use it for anything else.
■ Please ensure to thoroughly clean the crockery you have used.

  • Ideally, use food which has been frozen at -18^ in portions that are as thin as possible.
  • Removal all packaging.
  • Place the food in an appropriately large container, which can then collect the defrost water.
  • Do not cover the food.
