Frequently Asked Questions - MX-25108 Maxwell

How do I measure DC voltage with the MX-25108?
Connect the red test lead to the VΩmA connector and black to COM. Set the rotary switch to the desired DCV range. If voltage is unknown, start with the highest range and reduce until a proper reading is obtained.
How do I measure AC voltage?
Connect the red test lead to the VΩmA connector and black to COM. Set the rotary switch to the ACV position (200V or 300V). The device measures average, calibrated to RMS sine wave. Frequency range is 45-450Hz.
How do I measure DC current?
For current up to 200mA, connect red lead to VΩmA and black to COM, set switch to DCA range. For 200mA to 5A, connect red lead to the 5A connector. Connect the meter in series with the circuit. For 5A range, limit measurement to 15 seconds with a pause between readings.
How do I measure resistance?
Connect red lead to VΩmA and black to COM. Set the switch to the desired Ω range. Connect the test leads across the resistor. For accurate readings, ensure the circuit is de-energized.
How do I test a diode?
Set the rotary switch to the diode symbol (→). Connect red lead to VΩmA and black to COM. Connect red to the anode and black to the cathode. The display shows the forward voltage in mV. A reverse connection shows '1'.
How do I perform a continuity test?
Set the switch to the continuity symbol (sound wave). Connect red lead to VΩmA and black to COM. Place the probes across the circuit. The meter beeps if resistance is below 30 ± 20 Ω.
How do I test a transistor's hFE?
Set the switch to hFE position. Insert the transistor into the appropriate NPN or PNP socket, matching the base, emitter, and collector. The display shows the hFE value at IB=10μA and VCE=2.8V.
How do I use the logic test?
Set the switch to the logic test position (LL). Connect the test leads to VΩmA and COM. The meter outputs approximately 5V p-p at 50kΩ impedance to test logic levels.
How do I replace the battery?
When the low battery symbol appears, turn off the meter and remove the test leads. Remove the two screws on the bottom of the battery compartment. Replace the old 9V battery with a new one, observing polarity. Reattach the cover and screws.
What is the maximum voltage I can measure with the MX-25108?
The maximum voltage you can safely measure is 300V DC or 300V RMS AC. Exceeding this may cause electric shock or damage the meter.
