Frequently Asked Questions - HMT300 Cocraft

What safety precautions should I take when using the HMT300 multi-tool?
Always read the entire instruction manual. Wear ear protection, safety glasses or a visor, and a dust mask. Keep work area clean and well-lit. Avoid operating in explosive atmospheres. Use a Residual Current Device (RCD) in damp locations. Hold the tool by insulated gripping surfaces when cutting into hidden wiring.
How do I change accessories on the multi-tool?
Unplug the tool first. Turn the locking lever fully out. Mount the locking washer if not already fitted. Turn the lever 90° to secure the washer. Slide the accessory under the washer onto the mount, aligning pins with holes. Then turn the lever back fully. For snap-fit tools, remove the locking washer first.
What is the correct way to attach sanding sheets?
The sanding sheets use hook and loop fastening. Remove the old sheet, brush the hook and loop fabric on the sanding pad if needed, then press the new sheet onto the pad.
How do I adjust the speed during operation?
Use the speed control knob (3) on the tool. The speed can be adjusted continuously from 11,000 to 20,000 rpm even while the tool is running. The constant electronics maintain the set speed under load.
Can I use the multi-tool for cutting metal or tiles?
Yes, the tool is suitable for sawing, sanding, polishing, and cutting. For cutting metal, use a metal cutting blade (sold separately). For wall tiles, be aware that the blade will wear faster. Always check for hidden nails or screws before cutting.
What should I do if the tool vibrates excessively or makes abnormal noises?
Stop the tool immediately. Check that the accessory is fitted correctly and that the multi-tool is undamaged. If the problem persists, have the tool inspected by a qualified repair person.
How do I connect the dust extraction attachment?
Screw the dust extraction attachment onto the front of the multi-tool. Then connect it to an appropriate vacuum cleaner or dust extractor. This helps reduce dust-related hazards.
What is the purpose of the locking washer?
The locking washer (7) secures the accessory to the magnetic tool mount. It must be fitted before attaching most accessories. The locking lever holds the washer in place when turned to the 90° position.
How should I clean and store the multi-tool after use?
Clean the tool with a damp cloth and mild cleaning agent only. Keep the ventilation slots free from contaminants. Store in a dry, dust-free location out of reach of children. Unplug if not used for extended periods.

Safety

General power tool safety warnings

WARNING Read all safety warnings, instructions, illustrations and specification provided with this power tool. Failure to follow all instructions listed below may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury.

Save all warnings and instructions for future reference.

The term "power tool" in the warnings refers to your mains-operated (corded) power tool or battery-operated (cordless) power tool.

SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS.

1) Work area safety

a) Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
b) Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.
c) Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control.

2) Electrical safety

a) Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock.
b) Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.
c) Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock.
d) Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock.
e) When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use. Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock.
f) If operating a power tool in a damp location is unavoidable, use a residual current device (RCD) protected supply. Use of an RCD reduces the risk of electric shock.

3) Personal safety

a) Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury.
b) Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection. Protective equipment such as a dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries.
c) Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off-position before connecting to power source and/or battery pack, picking up or carrying the tool. Carrying power tools with your finger on the switch or energising power tools that have the switch on invites accidents.
d) Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on. A wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury.
e) Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations.
f) Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair and clothing away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair can be caught in moving parts.
g) If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection facilities, ensure these are connected and properly used. Use of dust collection can reduce dust-related hazards.
h) Do not let familiarity gained from frequent use of tools allow you to become complacent and ignore tool safety principles. A careless action can cause severe injury within a fraction of a second.

4) Power tool use and care

a) Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application.
The correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed.
b) Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off. Any power tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
c) Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or remove the battery pack, if detachable, from the power tool before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally.
d) Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users.
e) Maintain power tools and accessories. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the power tool's operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.
f) Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control.

g) Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc. in accordance with these instructions, taking into account the working conditions and the work to be performed. Use of the power tool for operations different from those intended could result in a hazardous situation.
h) Keep handles and grasping surfaces dry, clean and free from oil and grease. Slippery handles and grasping surfaces do not allow for safe handling and control of the tool in unexpected situations.

5) Service

a) Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repair person using only identical replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of the power tool is maintained.

Specific safety warnings for multi-tools

  • This electric hand tool is intended for sawing, sanding, polishing and cutting. Read all safety warnings, instructions, illustrations, and specifications provided with this tool. Neglecting to follow all of the instructions listed below can result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury.
  • Do not use accessories which are not intended to be used with this tool and which are not recommended by the manufacturer. Even if the accessory can be attached to your power tool, there is no guarantee that it can be used safely.
  • Wear personal protective equipment. Depending on how you use the machine; use a visor/face protection or safety glasses. If necessary use a mask, ear protection, gloves, and apron/work clothing to protect you from small shards of metal or splinters from the work object. The eye protection you use must be able to protect against flying debris produced in different working positions. The breathing protection should be able to filter any particles produced by the work. Prolonged exposure to high levels of noise can result in hearing damage.
  • Keep children at a safe distance from the work area. Everyone who visits the place of work must wear personal protective equipment. Debris from the workpiece or from a damaged accessory can fly off and injure people outside of the immediate work area.
  • Only hold the power tool by its insulated gripping surfaces when working in situations where the tool could cut through hidden cables or its own mains lead. Tools which come in contact with a live cable can electrify metal parts of the power tool and subject the user to an electric shock.
  • Regularly clean the motor's ventilation ports. The motor's fan pulls in dust, which gets inside the outer casing and a build up of this collected metal dust can lead to electrical dangers.
  • Do not use the power tool near flammable material. Sparks can easily ignite flammable material.
  • Do not use accessories, which require liquid coolants. The use of water or other liquid coolants can result in electric shock or electrocution.

Specific safety instructions for sanding

  • Extra caution should be taken when sanding lead paint, wood, metal or other materials which produce toxic dust. Make sure any bystanders in the work area are well protected.
  • Remember that dust caused by sanding can be very flammable when mixed with air.
  • Hold the power tool by insulated gripping surfaces, because the sanding surface may contact its own cord. Cutting a “live” wire may make exposed metal parts of the power tool “live” and could give the operator an electric shock.

Safety instructions specific for cutting

  • Hold power tool by its insulated gripping surfaces when performing an operation in where the cutting accessory may contact hidden wiring or its own cord could cut through hidden cables or its own cord. Cutting accessory contacting a “live” wire may make exposed metal parts of the power tool “live” and could give the operator an electric shock.
    • Always wear a dust mask.

Vibration

  • The measurement of the vibration emission level declared in this instruction manual has been carried out in accordance with a standardised test method described in EN 60745 and can be used for comparing one power tool with another.
  • The measurement method may also be used for a preliminary assessment of vibration exposure.
  • The declared vibration emission level applies when the power tool is used in accordance with this instruction manual. If however, the power tool is used for other purposes and with other accessories or has not been properly maintained, the vibration emission level could increase significantly over the total working period.
  • For an exact assessment of the vibration exposure, the times when the tool is switched off or running idle should also be taken into account. This significantly reduces the vibration exposure over the total working period. Decide upon safety measures to protect the operator from the effects of vibration during all types of use.

Select the required speed

The speed can be adjusted during use using the speed selector (3). The speed selected should be appropriate for the type of work being carried out and the type of material being worked on. Experiment until you find the best speed setting. The multi-tool is equipped with constant electronics which allows it to keep to the set speed setting even under load.

Cutting and sawing

Caution should be observed when using the saw blades. Check the working area so that you are prepared for any nails, screws or anything else which could cause you to lose control over the multi-tool. If you are cutting wall tiles, bear in mind that the saw blade will be subjected to hard wear during prolonged use.

Sanding

  • Always use undamaged sandpaper and change it often. This will not only give you better results but also prolong the life of your multi-tool.
  • Do not use excessive force when sanding, apply a constant, light pressure. Applying too much pressure will not speed up the sanding process; it will merely wear out the sandpaper and the multi-tool more quickly.
  • When sanding wood, do not use sanding sheets which have previously been used for metal.

Care and maintenance

  • If the mains lead is damaged it must only be replaced by a qualified electrician.
  • Keep the motor ventilation openings (5) free from contaminants.
  • Clean the multi-tool using a damp cloth. Use only mild cleaning agents, never solvents or corrosive chemicals.
  • If the mains lead is damaged it should only be replaced by a qualified electrician.
  • If the multi-tool is not to be used for an extended period, it should be unplugged and stored in a dry and dust-free location out of reach of children.

Troubleshooting guide

The multi-tool will not start. •Make sure the mains lead is undamaged and securely connected to the wall socket.• Check that the wall socket is live.
The motor runs slowly. • Worn/damaged accessory. Replace the accessory with a new one.• Speed set too low for the task. Increase the speed setting.
The machine vibrates or emits abnormal noises.• Check that the accessory is fitted correctly and that the multi-tool is undamaged.
