Frequently Asked Questions - 15.2024.02 TFA

How do I measure body temperature on the forehead?
Press the ON button briefly to turn on the device. Ensure it is in forehead mode (default). Point the sensor at the middle of the forehead, about 4 cm away, and press the START button. A beep sounds after about 1 second. If the reading is 37.5°C or higher, three short beeps indicate fever.
Can I use the thermometer to measure surface temperature?
Yes. After power on, press and hold the ON button, then press the START button to switch to surface mode. Aim at the target and press START. The surface temperature is displayed. Note: This is not suitable for shiny metal surfaces or through glass/plastic.
How do I switch between °C and °F?
With the device switched off, press and hold the START and ON buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds. The unit toggles between °C and °F, and the memory is cleared at the same time.
How do I enable or disable the mute function?
Hold the ON button until the mute symbol flashes. The mute symbol stays on the display, and beeps are deactivated. Repeat the same process to reactivate the sound. Note: Holding the ON button longer turns off the device.
Why does the display show 'Er1'?
Er1 indicates that the measurement was taken before the device stabilized. Wait for the error message to disappear and then repeat the measurement.
What should I do if the display shows 'Er3'?
Er3 means the ambient temperature is outside the operating range (10°C to 40°C). Allow the thermometer to rest in a room at a temperature between 10°C and 40°C for at least 15 minutes before use.
How do I clean the thermometer?
Clean the sensor lens with a cotton swab soaked in medical alcohol (70-75%). Let it dry completely for at least 1 minute. For the rest of the unit, use a soft, slightly damp cloth. Do not use solvents or submerge in water.
How many measurements can I store in memory?
The thermometer automatically stores up to the last 25 forehead temperature measurements. To view them, press the ON button while the device is on; the memory symbol appears. Each press shows the previous measurement (1 is most recent).
What is the temperature range and accuracy of the forehead mode?
The forehead mode measures from 34.0°C to 42.2°C (93.2°F to 108.0°F) with an accuracy of ±0.2°C (0.4°F) between 35°C and 42°C, and ±0.3°C (0.5°F) otherwise.
Can I take a measurement immediately after exercise or bathing?
No. Wait at least 30 minutes after physical exercise, bathing, or dining before taking a measurement. Also, the thermometer and the person should be in the same room for at least 15 minutes prior to measurement.

  • The device is not waterproof. Protect it from moisture. Do not immerse in water or other liquids.
  • To clean and disinfect the unit, please follow the instructions in the section "Care and Maintenance".

4. Measuring procedure

- Every object releases infrared energy. The optical detector senses the infrared energy, converts this information into a digital reading and the surface temperature is displayed.

4.1 Measurement of body temperature

  • In the default setting, in forehead thermometer mode, the thermometer measures the temperature of the infrared heat given by the arterial blood supply under the forehead area and converts this temperature into an oral equivalent temperature. The measurement result is displayed within 1 second. The contactless measuring method allows, for example, to take the temperature of babies without disturbing them during sleep.
  • Many people believe that normal body temperature is 37^ , however body temperature, like blood pressure, varies from person to person and during the day. It may range from 35.5^ (95.9^) to 37.8^ (100.4^) .
  • We should remember as well that oral temperature is normally lower by 0.5^ (0.9°F) from rectal temperature. The forehead temperature is converted by the infrared forehead thermometer to the commonly used oral temperature. For some people it may show some difference from their normal oral temperature.

Therefore: Practice is important!

  • We recommend that you practise using the thermometer on yourself and your family when you're in a healthy condition. In this way you can improve your technique and obtain a reference value for normal body temperature of each member of your family. This in turn will help you to feel more confident to take the temperature when someone is ill.
  • For repeated accurate measurement, be sure to always measure the same spot on the forehead as in the following instructions.

7.2 Repeated measurements

- To repeat measurements, always return to the same point of measuring on the forehead. Wait until the symbol for forehead mode stops flashing.

Remember:

- The forehead temperature is equivalent to oral temperature (oral temperature is normally 0.5^ less then rectal measured temperature.) This is based on the average population. For some people it may be different and it is recommended to learn and recognize the forehead temperature while healthy.

7.3 Memory function

  • The thermometer automatically stores the last 25 temperature values in the forehead temperature mode.
  • To use the memory function, press the ON button while the thermometer is turned on. The memory symbol appears. "1" appears briefly, then the temperature of the last measurement.

  • Simply aim at the target and press the START button. You will get the surface temperature within one second.
  • If you keep the START button pressed, the measured value is continuously updated.

Please note:

  • This mode shows the actual and unadjusted surface temperature which is different from body temperature.
  • To get the most accurate temperature reading, aim at the target as near as possible.
  • Not suitable for measuring shiny or polished metal surfaces (stainless steel, aluminium, etc.).
  • The device cannot measure through transparent surfaces such as glass or plastic. It will measure the surface temperature of the glass instead.
