Frequently Asked Questions - COLORstrip Chauvet

How do I set the DMX starting address on the COLORstrip?

Press MENU until SdAd appears, then use UP/DOWN to select address (001–509). Press ENTER to save. The address is stored in memory and will be active on startup.

Can I control the COLORstrip with a remote?

Yes, it is compatible with the optional IRC-6 infrared remote from Chauvet. The remote allows on/off, speed control, color selection, strobe, auto/sound modes, and RGB color mixing.

How do I mount the COLORstrip overhead?

Use a clamp (e.g., CLP-15N) attached to the mounting bracket, and always secure with a safety cable (e.g., CH-05). Ensure at least 20 in (50 cm) clearance from adjacent surfaces and adequate ventilation.

How do I replace the fuse?

Disconnect from power. Use a flat-head screwdriver to pry open the fuse holder. Remove the blown fuse from the clip and replace with one of the exact same type and rating. Reinsert the holder and reconnect power.

What are the different chase modes?

The COLORstrip has 13 color chases (A008–A020), each adjustable in speed (P000–P100) and strobe (F000–F100). There is also a color fade (A022) and a mode that runs all chases sequentially (A023).

How do I use Master/Slave mode?

Connect units via DMX cables. Set the master unit to a standalone program (e.g., A008). Set slave units to SdAd with DMX address 001 (or any address, but slaves follow the master). All slaves will sync to the master's output.

Can the COLORstrip be used outdoors?

No. The product is rated IP20 for indoor use only. Do not expose to rain or moisture to prevent risk of fire or shock.

What is the maximum ambient temperature for operation?

The maximum ambient temperature is 104 °F (40 °C). Do not operate at higher temperatures to prevent overheating.

How do I reset the COLORstrip to factory defaults?

In the menu, navigate to SYS and select SAAd (reset). Press ENTER to confirm. The product will reboot with default settings.

To Begin

Unpack your COLORstrip/COLORstrip Mini and make sure you have received all parts in good condition. If the box or contents appear damaged notify the carrier immediately, not Chauvet.

Product Description

The COLORstrip/COLORstrip Mini is a compact, multicolor strip light for use in indoor mobile entertainment applications. The COLORstrip/COLORstrip Mini is perfect as a wash light or effect light when paired with other COLORstrip products. Built-in infrared technology offers wireless control with the optional Infrared Remote Control (IRC-6) from CHAUVET DJ.

Product Overview

AC Power

This product has an auto-ranging power supply that can work with an input voltage range of 100–240 VAC, 50/60 Hz.

To eliminate wear and improve its lifespan, during periods of non-use completely disconnect from power via breaker or by unplugging it.

Fuse Replacement

For the maximum number of COLORstrip/COLORstrip Mini that can be power linked at 120 V or at 240 V, see the User Manual or thelabel on the product.

1. Disconnect the product from power.
2. Wedge the tip of a flat-head screwdriver into the slot of the fuse holder.
3. Pry the safety cap out of the housing.
4. Remove the blown fuse from the clip on the front of the safety cap and replace with a fuse of the exact same type and rating.
5. Re-insert the fuse holder and reconnect power.

Upon plugging in the product, allow up to 30 seconds start-up time.

DMX Linking

The COLORstrip/COLORstrip Mini can work with a DMX controller when linked by DMX serial connections. Instructions for connecting and configuring this product for DMX operation are in the User Manual. If you are not familiar with DMX, download the DMX Primer from www.chauvetlighting.com.

Starting Address

To ensure full access to all channels in each DMX mode, the highest recommended DMX address is 509.

After setting the starting DMX address, press , then to save the address to the product's memory.

Master/ Slave Connection

The COLORstrip/COLORstrip Mini uses the DMX data connection for its Master/Slave mode. Instructions for connecting and configuring this product for Master/Slave operation are in the User Manual.

Master/ Slave Runway Mode

The COLORstrip/COLORstrip Mini uses the Master/Slave output for its Runway mode. Instructions for connecting and configuring this product for Runway mode operation are in the User Manual.
