Frequently Asked Questions - MCF-LW13IO MCF88

How do I connect the MCF-LW13IO to power?
Connect the 230 V AC Live to terminal L LINE and Neutral to N LINE. The device will automatically power on and attempt to join the LoRaWAN network.
How do I configure the device?
Use the mcf88 LoRA Tool App (available on Google Play) on an NFC-enabled smartphone. Hold the phone near the device to read/write configuration parameters such as activation mode (OTAA, ABP, None) and keys.
What do the LED indicators mean?
Red/green LED: Off = LoRaWAN not configured; Blinking = joining network; Steady = connected and idle; Quick flash = uplink in progress.
Can I use this device to switch 230 V loads?
Yes, the relay output supports up to 8 A @ 230 V AC for resistive loads. Use the COM, NO, and NC terminals as needed.
What is the difference between OTAA and ABP activation?
OTAA uses AppKey and AppEUI to derive session keys dynamically during join. ABP requires pre-configured NwkSKey, AppSKey, and DevAddr. OTAA is more secure.
Does the device support firmware updates?
Yes, firmware updates can be performed via the mcf88 LoRA Tool App using the NFC interface.
What is the operating temperature range?
The device operates from -10°C to +70°C and can be stored from -20°C to +80°C.
How do I monitor a 230 V input?
Connect the 230 V AC Live to terminal L IN and Neutral to N IN. The input is opto-isolated and can be read by the device.
What is the LoRaWAN range?
Range depends on environment, typically 2-15 km line-of-sight. Indoors, range is reduced due to building materials.
Where can I find the device's unique identifiers?
The DevEUI is printed on the product label. The AppEUI and AppKey can be set via the configuration app.
