How do I bleed the floor jack?

Insert the handle and open the release valve. Pump the handle 6 full strokes with the valve open. Then close the release valve and pump again to check. This removes air from the system.

What should I do if the jack won't lift?

Check that the release valve is closed (turn clockwise). If it is closed, there may be air in the system—bleed the jack. Alternatively, check the oil level (should be up to the lower thread inside the oil container when lowered). If low, add hydraulic oil.

Why does my jack sink under load?

This could be due to a worn piston O-ring or dirt in the release valve. For dirt, remove and clean the valve seat. For a worn O-ring, contact Clas Ohlson customer service.

What type of hydraulic oil should I use?

Use standard hydraulic jack oil, typically ISO 32 or equivalent. The manual does not specify a brand, but any quality hydraulic oil for floor jacks is suitable. The oil container holds approx. 0.5 L.

What is the maximum lifting capacity?

The maximum capacity is 2 tonnes (2000 kg). Do not exceed this limit to avoid damage or injury. The overload valve is factory-set at 2 tonnes and should not be adjusted.

Can I use the jack on a gravel or uneven surface?

No. The floor jack is designed for use on even, hard surfaces. Using it on gravel, grass, or uneven ground can cause instability and sudden dropping of the load.

How do I lower the jack safely?

Ensure the load is supported by safety stands. Then, with the release valve closed, pump the handle slightly to raise the load off the stands. Slowly turn the release valve anticlockwise with the handle to lower the load gradually.

How often should I maintain the jack?

Before each use, visually inspect for cracks, oil leaks, or worn parts. Regularly lubricate moving parts and check the oil level. If the jack fails to lift properly, bleed the system or top up the oil.

NOTE!

• The floor jack is only intended for lifting. The vehicle must be secured with axle stands (or similar) with enough load capacity before you start working underneath the load.
• Do not overload the floor jack. It can lift up to 2 tonnes. Overloading could damage the jack, property or cause personal injury.
• Make sure that there are no animals or people under the load until the load is secured with e.g. axle stands.
• The jack must not be used for lifting people or animals.
• Do not try to move the jack when it is under load.
• The jack must not be modified in any way.
• Use the lifting points recommended by the manufacturer of your car.
• The floor jack is intended for use on an even, hard surface. If used on other surfaces the floor jack could become unstable and drop its load.
• Make sure that the load is centred on the lifting cup.

Use

Before use

Bleeding

1. Insert the handle into the handle sleeve (no. 10 on the drawing).
2. Pump the handle 6 full strokes with the release valve open to make sure that the oil is evenly distributed.
3. Shut the release valve. The bleeding is now completed.

Inspection

1. A visual inspection of the jack should be made each time the jack is used. Make sure that there are no cracks in the welds or other parts, oil leaks, loose parts, deformed or worn parts etc.

Lifting loads

1. Place the floor jack on an even, hard surface.
2. Close the release valve by inserting the handle and turning it clockwise, do not turn it too hard.
3. Position the jack's lifting cup at a suitable point under the load.
4. Make sure that no people or animals are under the load whilst it is being lifted.
5. Insert the handle into the handle sleeve and pump the handle a few times to make sure that the load is securely seated on the lifting cup, continue lifting the load to the desired height. Secure the load by slowly lowering it onto supports such as axle stands.

Lowering loads

1. Close the release valve by inserting the handle and turning it clockwise, do not turn it too hard.
2. Make sure that no people or animals are under the load whilst it is being lowered.
3. Pump the handle, raising the load enough for the axle stands to be removed.
4. Using the handle, turn the release valve carefully anticlockwise, allowing the load to lower slowly until it is completely down.

Care

1. When the jack is not in use the lifting arm and handle sleeve should be in the fully lowered position. This prevents the pistons from rusting.
2. The oil container holds approx. 0.5 l hydraulic oil.
3. Keep the floor jack clean and well lubricated, even the moveable parts on the outside e.g. the lifting arm spindle and wheel bearings.

Problems: Localisation and solution

1. The floor jack does not go up or doesn't lift the load

a) The release valve is open, close the release valve and then try lifting.
b) There might be air pockets in the oil system. Open the release valve. Pump the handle six full strokes. Close the release valve and try again.
c) Check the oil level. Do the following: Put the floor jack on an even surface. Open the release valve. The oil level is correct if there is oil up to the lower thread inside the oil container when the lifting arm is in the fully lowered position. If the oil level is too low you need to remove the plug under the cover plate and fill the oil to the right level, then put the plug back and tighten it. Shut the release valve and raise the lifting arm to its full height. Open the release valve to lower the lifting arm. Do this 3 or 4 times. The air should now be purged and the oil can circulate everywhere. In most cases that is enough to get the floor jack to work properly. Close the release valve and try lifting a load.
d) The release valve is not tight because of dirt on the seal. Rinse by pulling the lifting arm up and down several times with the release valve open. If it is necessary you can remove the valve for cleaning.

2. The floor jack sinks when loaded

a) The piston o-ring could be worn out. This is only likely if the floor jack has been used long and hard. Contact our Customer Service Department.
b) Dirt in the release valve makes the floor jack sink while under load. Remove the release valve, clean the seat and replace the valve.

3. The floor jack does not sink completely after lifting

a) The lifting arm return spring is loose or has broken off. Replace it.
b) The floor jack probably needs to be lubricated. Clean and lubricate all movable parts in the lifting mechanism.

4. The floor jack does not have a 2 tonne capacity. CHECK THE FOLLOWING:

a) There might be air pockets in the system. See III 1-b.
b) The release valve is not tight because of dirt on the seal. Rinse by pulling the lifting arm up and down several times with the release valve open. If it is necessary you can remove the valve for cleaning.
c) The piston o-ring might be worn out. Contact our Customer Service Department.
d) Do not adjust the overload valve setting. It is set on 2 tons capacity at the factory. Check to see if something has got caught in the lifting mechanism.
