1. COMMISSIONING

1.1 FITTING BATTERIES (NOT INCLUDED)

As your AUDIOLINE 818G stores all information digitally, such as your greeting message, all incoming messages and the day and time announcement, a 9 V alkaline battery is required to safeguard the data during a power cut or if the mains power supply should be accidentally disconnected.

The battery compartment can be found on the underside of your answering machine. Remove the screw and open the battery cover.

Now connect the adapter to the battery. In doing so, ensure that the polarity is correct.

Place the battery in the battery compartment, close the compartment and fasten the cover with the screw.

AUDIOLINE AB 818 G - FITTING BATTERIES (NOT INCLUDED) - 1

Note: When the battery is discharged or no battery is fitted, the “flat battery” warning light flashes. No battery power is required as long as the answering machine is connected to the mains power supply.

1.2 CONNECTING THE ANSWERING MACHINE

Set up your answering machine near to the telephone and to a mains socket.

Connect the fixed telephone cable to your TAE socket (coding N = for accessories such as answering machine / telefax). If you do not have the right connection, please contact DEUTSCHE TELEKOM.

Plug the power supply into a properly installed mains socket. Your answering machine signals that it is ready for operation by means of a signal tone and you can now set the day and time and record your greeting message.

1.3 SETTING THE DAY AND TIME ANNOUNCEMENT

The day and the exact time are saved with each incoming message so that you always know when callers left their messages.

Press the ⬤ SET button for 2 seconds. You will hear the day of the week currently set, e.g. Sunday.

Press the ⬤ SET button until you hear the correct day of the week.

Confirm the day of the week with the CHECK button. You will now hear an announcement of the hour currently set.

Press the ⬤ SET button until you hear the correct hour announced.

After hearing the correct hour announcement, press the CHECK button. You will now hear an announcement of the minutes currently set.

Press the ⬤ SET button until you hear the correct minutes announced.

Finish the process of entering the day and time announcement with the button.

The voice now repeats the day and time announcement that has just been set.

The current day and time announcement can be called up at any time by pressing the CHECK button.

If entering the day and time announcement is suspended for more than 8 seconds, the answering machine automatically aborts the process. In this case, you must repeat the process in its entirety.

2. OPERATION

2.1 RECORDING OR CHANGING GREETING

Before recording your greeting, you should write down the text that you want to record. The maximum length is 30 seconds. The longer your greeting lasts, the less recording time will be available for incoming messages. The maximum recording time is ca. 14 minutes. If your greeting lasts for 18 seconds, for example, then 13 minutes and 42 seconds remain for incoming messages.

Press and hold the R button.

Start recording your greeting after a signal tone (max. 30 seconds). While recording, keep at a distance of ca. 15 cm from the AUDIOLINE 818G so that you can speak easily into the microphone on the upper side.

Example: “Hello, this is 05432/1234. I am sorry but we are not available to take your call at the moment. However, you can leave a message if you wish. We will get back to you as soon as possible. Please speak after the tone. If you hear a second tone, the recording will stop automatically”.

Release the R button after you have finished your greeting message.

The greeting will now be repeated automatically. The volume can be adjusted with the two arrow keys ▼ and ▲. You can play back your greeting at any time by briefly pressing the ▼ button.

2.2 SETTING UP THE ANSWERING MACHINE

AUDIOLINE AB 818 G - SETTING UP THE ANSWERING MACHINE - 1

The “RINGING TONES” slide switch can be found on the rear of the AUDIOLINE 818G. Here you can set how many times the phone rings before incoming calls are answered.

2 The call will be answered after 2 rings.

6 The call will be answered after 6 rings.

TS In the “TS” position, the first call will be answered after 6 rings and all further calls will be answered after 2 rings. Furthermore, with the switch in this position, you can make use of the toll-free remote access facility. Details will be found in Chapter 3.2.

Your AUDIOLINE 818G can be switched on or off using the 📊/☐ button. If the answering machine is switched off, the message LED 📧 goes off and no messages will be recorded.

The maximum length for incoming messages is 60 seconds. If the caller speaks for longer, a signal tone sounds and the call will be cut off. If there is a pause of more than 7 seconds during recording, the call is automatically terminated with a signal tone.

No more calls will be answered if the memory capacity for new messages is exhausted.

The inbuilt loudspeaker enables incoming calls to be listened to without speaking to the caller. If you do not want to listen in to incoming calls, set the volume to minimum with the arrow key ▼. You can personally intervene at any time while the caller is dictating his message by lifting the telephone receiver. The answering machine switches itself off and you can speak directly to the caller.

4. IMPORTANT INFORMATION

4.1 CARE

The case of your AUDIOLINE 818G can be cleaned with a damp cloth. Do not use spray polish or cleaning cream with abrasive particles, which could damage the loudspeaker or the case. Do not expose the unit to direct sunlight and avoid extreme humidity.

4.2 FAULT FINDING

If a fault should occur, please first check whether this is caused by the unit or by the telephone line. For this purpose, remove all extra telephone equipment and connect only the AUDIOLINE 818G directly to the TELEKOM telephone socket. If the fault is still there, connect just your telephone to the telephone socket. The results will show you where the fault lies. Of course, you can always ring the DEUTSCHE TELEKOM service department who will give you more advice on checking your installation. You will find the telephone number in your telephone directory.

Message LED does not come on: Check whether the mains adapter is correctly seated in the socket. Make sure that the mains socket is in good working order.

Battery flat – LED flashes: The battery is discharged and must be replaced. If the power fails, your greeting, all recorded messages and the day and time announcement will be deleted.

Undefined faulty behaviour: If your answering machine does not work correctly, you can completely reset the AUDIOLINE 818G. In doing so, your greeting and all recorded messages will be deleted. For this purpose, unplug the plug-in mains power supply from the socket and remove the batteries. Refit the batteries after ca. 5 seconds and connect the AUDIOLINE 818G to the mains socket again.
