Frequently Asked Questions - UT-203R Uni-T

How do I measure AC/DC current with the UT-203R?
Set the function selector to the desired current range (40A or 400A). Press SELECT to choose AC or DC. Open the clamp jaws and enclose only one conductor. Keep the conductor centered between the markings. Read the value on the LCD.
What is the maximum voltage I can measure?
The UT-203R can measure up to 600 V DC or 600 V AC RMS. For safety, do not exceed these limits. The meter is rated CAT II 600 V and CAT III 300 V.
How do I replace the batteries?
Disconnect test leads and ensure the clamp is not around a conductor. Turn off the meter. Remove the screw on the battery cover, take out old AAA/LR03 batteries, insert new ones observing polarity, and replace the cover.
What does the NCV function do?
NCV (Non-Contact Voltage) detects live AC voltage without touching wires. Place the NCV sensor near a source. The meter shows dashes, sounds a buzzer, and lights a red LED. Use EFHI for ~220 V and EFLo for ~110 V.
How accurate is the UT-203R for DC voltage?
DC voltage accuracy ranges from ±0.7% + 3 at 400.0 mV to ±0.5% + 2 for higher ranges up to 600 V. Reference conditions: 23±5°C, <75% RH.
Can I measure capacitance with this meter?
Yes, the UT-203R measures capacitance from 40.00 nF to 40.00 mF. For values below 100 nF, use the REL function to zero the display before measurement. Accuracy is ±4%+5 to ±10%.
What does the continuity buzzer indicate?
When measuring continuity, a continuous beep indicates resistance <10 Ω. No beep for >31 Ω. Between 10-31 Ω, the beep is irregular. Always power off the circuit before testing.
How do I use the HOLD and backlight functions?
Press HOLD/ to freeze the reading on the display. Press and hold the same button for about 2 seconds to turn the backlight on or off.
What safety precautions should I follow?
Always inspect the meter and leads for damage before use. Keep fingers behind the finger guards. Do not measure voltages above 600 V. Use the correct range and never change the function selector during a measurement. Replace batteries when the low battery icon appears.
How do I measure resistance?
Turn off power to the circuit and discharge capacitors. Set the function selector to Ω. Connect black lead to COM and red to the V/Ω/Hz input. Touch probes across the component. The display shows resistance. Use HOLD to freeze the reading.

Warning:

The instruction manual contains information necessary for the safe operation of the clamp meter. Disregarding this information can lead to serious injury or death. Make sure that you have read and understood the entire instruction manual before using the product.

The clamp meter has been tested in accordance with EN 61010-1, 61010-2-032/033 and conforms to the electromagnetic radiation protection standard in accordance with EN61326-1, and also conforms to measurement category CAT III 300 V, CAT II 600 V, and pollution category II.

The function of the clamp meter should be checked on a known voltage source before you start measuring.

  • Always check the that the product looks intact and has no damage before using it. Do not use this clamp meter if it or the test leads appear to be damaged, or if you suspect that the tool might not work properly.
  • Never use the clamp meter if the battery cover or battery compartment is open.
  • Make sure that your fingers are behind the finger guards when using the test leads.
  • Set the measurement range with the function knob before starting to take readings. The measurement range must not be changed during a measurement.
  • Do not measure voltages higher than 600 V DC or 600 V AC RMS between a power point and earth connection.
  • Replace the battery if the battery warning symbol appears on the display. A weak battery can cause incorrect results and thereby pose a safety hazard.
  • Neither the clamp meter nor its accessories must be dismantled or modified in any way.

- The clamp meter must not be used or stored in hot temperatures, humid, explosive or flammable environments or near to strong magnetic fields.

Uni-T UT-203R - Warning: - 1

To avoid electric shocks you need to be very careful when you work with voltage higher than 60 V DC or 30 V AC RMS. Voltages higher than this pose a risk of powerful electric shocks.

Uni-T UT-203R - Warning: - 2

To avoid electric shocks and damage to the meter, the measuring range limits must not be exceeded. The guarantee will not apply if the instrument is used incorrectly.
