Frequently Asked Questions - RM-V301 SONY

How do I set up the remote for my TV?
Press and release the SET button, then press the TV button. Enter the 3-digit code for your TV brand from the supplied component code list. Finally, press ENT to store the code. Test by pointing the remote at your TV and pressing POWER.
What if the remote doesn't work after programming?
First, ensure batteries are fresh and installed correctly. Try the next code from the list for your component. If none work, use the Searching for the Correct Code function: press SET, then the component button, then repeatedly press CH+ and POWER until the component responds. Press ENT to save.
How do I program the remote for a non-Sony device?
Find the correct code number for your brand in the supplied component code list. Press SET, then the component button (e.g., VCR), enter the 3-digit code, and press ENT. If multiple codes are listed, try the first one.
How to search for the correct code?
Press SET and release, then press the desired component button. Press and release CH+ followed by POWER. Repeat this sequence until the component turns off or responds (e.g., starts playback). When it works, press ENT to store the code. This may require up to 100 tries.
How to change volume control from TV to receiver?
If your video components are connected to an audio system, you may want the volume buttons to control the receiver. Press SET, then RCVR, then VOL+, then ENT. The volume will now control the receiver's volume while operating any component. To reset to TV, repeat but press VOL- in step 3.
How to use the Channel Macro function?
Select the component (TV, cable box, or satellite receiver). While holding down a macro key (e.g., a number button), press the sequence of buttons you want to store (up to 4). For example, to store channel 123, hold the macro key, then press 1, 2, 3, and ENT. Release the macro key. Now pressing that macro key will change to channel 123.
How to change component type on CBL/SAT button?
Press SET, then the button you want to reassign (e.g., CBL/SAT), then press STOP (■). Press a digit to assign the new type: 1=VCR, 2=digital satellite, 3=receiver, 4=CD, 5=tape, 6=MD/DAT, 7=TV, 8=cable box, 9=DVD. Then press ENT and follow normal code setting procedure.
How to reset remote to factory settings?
Press and hold the POWER, TV/VIDEO, and VOL- buttons simultaneously. This will reset all programmed codes and volume settings to factory defaults. Reinstall batteries if needed.
How to replace the batteries?
Slide open the battery compartment cover on the back. Remove old batteries and insert two new AA (R6) batteries, matching the + and - markings. Close the cover. Replace both batteries together; do not mix old and new. If taking longer than 20 minutes, programmed codes may be lost.
Why does the remote not control all functions?
The remote can only control functions that your component supports. If a button like MUTING does not work, your TV may not have that feature. Also, some code sets may not include all functions. Try a different code from the list or use the code search to find a better match.
