BEST PRACTICES

For best output, maintain pressure at the tool of 90 PSI.
The longer your air hose the greater the pressure drop from compressor to tool. If you are using a hose longer than 50 feet, consider upgrading to a 1/2 inch ID air hose to ensure proper tool pressure.
Failure to lubricate and maintain your air tools properly will dramatically shorten their life. Use oil every time you use your air tool to lubricate, clean and inhibit rust in one step. Campbell Hausfeld sells air tool oil under part number ST1270.

GETTING TO KNOW YOUR UNIT

SET UP INSTRUCTIONS

BEST PRACTICES

The air compressor used with your reactionless ratchet must be able to maintain a minimum of 90 PSI when the tool is being used. An inadequate air supply can cause a loss of power and inconsistent tool output/performance.
A pressure regulator—used at the tool—is helpful to control the operating pressure of the tool and maintain 90 PSI.
Use an oiler to provide oil circulation through the tool and a filter to remove liquid and solid impurities which can rust or "gum up" internal parts of the tool.
To disconnect a coupler/plug from a system set-up: push the coupler and plug together before pulling the coupler sleeve back and separating the coupler and plug.
Use only sockets specifically rated as "impact" drive sockets. Non-impact drive sockets—if used with air tools—can shatter causing serious personal injury.

LUBRICATION

Motor:

To protect your tool, lubricate the motor every time—before and after—you use this tool. You cannot oil the motor too often or put too much oil in the air inlet.

1. Disconnect the reactionless ratchet from air supply.
2. Turn the tool upside down.
3. While pulling the trigger, pour approximately a teaspoon of air tool oil in the air inlet. Campbell Hausfeld makes an air tool oil under model number ST1270.
4. Connect the tool to the air supply and cover the exhaust port with a towel. Run the reactionless ratchet for about 10 seconds. Oil will spray from the exhaust port when the tool is triggered.
5. Continue to run until no oil is discharged.
6. Wipe all residual oil from tool before use.

Gears:

Periodic lubrication of the impact mechanism through the flush-type grease fitting will extend the life of the ratchet. Under regular use, inject a small amount grease to the flush-type grease fitting with a grease injection gun every week.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

To remove a nut, bolt or spark plug:

1. Set ratchet head to run in the reverse direction by depressing the forward/reverse knob and turning it clockwise to remove a bolt, nut or spark plug.

2. Attach the appropriate sized IMPACT socket on the anvil and press firmly until socket is seated over the ball retainer.

3. Place socket over nut or bolt and squeeze trigger until nut or bolt has been removed or installed.

To install a nut, bolt or spark plug:

Follow the above directions BUT set the ratchet head to run in the forward direction by depressing the forward/reverse knob and turning it counter clockwise to the forward position.

Do not overtighten when using your air-powered impact ratchet. Use a torque wrench to attain the proper torque manually.

BEST PRACTICES

To prevent cross-threading, start your nuts/bolts by hand—and try to get a few rotations—before continuing the job with your pneumatic tool.
The forward/reverse knob rotates as the ratchet is activated/triggered. Be sure to keep your hands away from moving parts during operation—including this knob.
The reactionless ratchet should never be used to set torque. Use a torque wrench to attain the proper torque manually. Do not over tighten.

STORAGE

Lubricate your reactionless ratchet before storing. Follow the air motor lubrication instructions with an exception to step #4. Only run the reactionless ratchet for 2-3 seconds (instead of 10 seconds) because more oil needs to remain in the reactionless ratchet when storing. Store your tool in a cool dry place.

General Safety

This product is a part of a high pressure system and the following safety precautions must be followed at all times along with any other existing safety rules.

a. To reduce the risks of electric shock, fire, and injury to persons, read all the instructions before using the tool.

Work Area

Personal Safety

a. Stay alert. Watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating the tool. Do not use the tool while tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or medication. A moment of inattention while operating the tool increases the risk of injury to persons.
b. Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry. Contain long hair. Keep hair, clothing, and gloves away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewelry, or long hair increases the risk of injury to persons as a result of being caught in moving parts.

c. Avoid unintentional starting. Be sure the switch is off before connecting to the air supply. Do not carry the tool with your finger on the switch or connect the tool to the air supply with the switch on.
d. Remove adjusting keys or wrenches before turning on the tool. A key or wrench attached to a rotating part of the tool may result in personal injury.
e. Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. Proper footing and balance enables better control of the tool in unexpected situations.
f. Use safety equipment. A dust mask, non-skid safety shoes and a hard hat must be used for the applicable conditions.
g. Always wear eye protection.
h. Always wear hearing protection when using the tool. Prolonged exposure to high intensity noise is able to cause hearing loss.
i. Do not attach the hose or tool to your body. Attach the hose to the structure to reduce the risk of loss of balance if the hose shifts.

m. Never point an air tool at oneself or any other person. Serious injury could occur.
n. Do not put hands near or under moving parts.

Tool Use and Care

a. Use clamps or another practical way to secure and support the workpiece to a stable platform. Holding the work by hand or against the body is unstable and is able to lead to loss of control.
b. Do not force the tool. Use the correct tool for the application. The correct tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which the tool is designed.
c. Do not use the tool if the switch does not turn the tool on or off. Any tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
d. Dis warning from the air source before making adjustments, doing tool maintenance, clearing jams, leaving work area, loading, or unloading the tool. Such precautionary measures reduce the risk of injury to persons.
e. Store the tool when it is idle out of reach of children and other untrained persons. A tool is dangerous in the hands of untrained users.

f. Maintain the tool with care. Keep a cutting tool sharp and clean. A properly maintained tool, with sharp cutting edges reduces the risk of binding and is easier to control.
g. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts, and any other condition that affects the tool's operation. If damaged, have the tool serviced before using. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained tools. There is a risk of bursting if the tool is damaged.
h. Use only accessories that are identified by the manufacturer for the specific tool model. Use of an accessory not intended for use with the specific tool model increases the risk of injury to persons.
i. Selecting an appropriate tool actuation system, taking into consideration the work application for which the tool is used.

Air Source

Over pressurizing the tool is able to result in bursting, abnormal operation, breakage of the tool or serious injury to persons. Use only clean, dry, regulated compressed air at the rated pressure or within the rated pressure range as marked on the tool. Always verify prior to using the tool that the air source has been adjusted to the rated air pressure or within the rated air-pressure range.

b. Never use oxygen, carbon dioxide, combustible gases or any bottled gas as an air source for the tool. Such gases are capable of explosion and serious injury to persons.

GENERAL TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE

NOTE: Separators only work properly when the air passing through the separator is cool. Locate the separator/filter as far as possible from the compressor.

If this product is used for commercial, industrial or rental purposes, the warranty will apply for ninety (90) days from the date of purchase. Some States do not allow limitation on how long an implied warranty lasts, so the above limitations may not apply to you.
