Safety instructions

- If this device is given to other persons, ensure that these operating instructions are also handed over.

· Inadequate cleaning and care, mishandling or improper use affect the safety of the coffee maker. cilio accept no responsibility for any damages that occur due to improper use or incorrect handling. This product is only intended for household use. Do not operate this product unprotected outside.

- Never operate the coffee maker unsupervised and use it for the intended purpose only.

- Keep the coffee maker out of reach of children as long as it is in use or still hot.

· Never use the coffee maker without water in the lower part. Only operate the product with water and never with milk or other liquids.

- For a proper operation of the safety valve, it must not be in the water area. Attention! Only fill the lower part to a maximum below the safety valve with water.

- Use only pure, not too finely ground espresso powder. Coffee substitutes or coffee extract contain sticky substances that clog the coffee maker. Even finely ground espresso powder can clog the sieve of the coffee maker.

- When released, the safety valve may cause a hot steam emission. Make sure that the valve is pointing away from the user or other persons.

- Use the coffee maker only on the heat sources indicated on the packaging. Adjust the size of the heat source according to the bottom diameter.

Gas: Always ensure that the flame does not rise up the sides of the coffee maker.

Induction: When cooking on induction cooktops, make sure that the diameter of the cooktop and the coffee maker match as closely as possible, otherwise the pot detection will not be activated on some stove systems and the cooktop will not be operated. Never use the boost function.

· Always choose a medium temperature level to avoid overboiling and to protect the coffee maker.

  • Risk of burns! The coffee maker becomes very hot during use. When having contact with hot surfaces there is a risk of burning yourself. Please only grasp the cooker by the handle and on the lid knob or if necessary with an oven glove or oven cloth. Only place the hot coffee maker on heat-resistant surfaces.
  • Remove the coffee maker from the heat source immediately as soon as the espresso has flowed into the upper part. Never allow the coffee maker to boil dry. This may damage the structure of the metal and affects the safety for further use.
    · Do not open the lid before the cooking process is finished.
  • Do not unscrew the coffee maker until it has been removed from the stove and has completely cooled down.
  • Should your coffee maker be a model where the espresso flows out sideways through one or two spouts, please ensure that you place one cup each with sufficient volume under the spout(s).
  • Do not use the coffee maker if it or its components are damaged. In case of repair contact the authorized dealer.
  • Use original accessories only.

Before each use

· Thoroughly inspect the coffee maker, including gasket, funnel, sieve and safety valve for soiling, limescale, wear or damage.

- Test the rate of flow of the riser pipe in the upper part of the coffee maker.

- Model-based: Check the mobility of the pin of the safety valve. Therefore pull the pin forward from the outside to the resistance and release the pin.

- If you notice any soiling, calcifications, wear or other damages, it is mandatory for a safe use to resolve them by cleaning, descaling or replacing damaged parts as required.

  1. Place the coffee maker on a suitable heat source and heat the coffee maker only at a medium level to avoid overboiling and to protect the coffee maker. The espresso coffee rises with slightest development of steam into the upper part. Immediately remove the coffee maker from the heat source as soon as you hear a soft bubbling sound. Note: There may be a small amount of water left in the bottom of the coffee maker.

Cleaning after each use

Attention! Do not clean the coffee maker and it's individual parts in the dishwasher. Do not use caustic or corrosive detergents.

  1. Allow the coffee maker to cool down completely before cleaning.
  2. Unscrew the coffee maker and remove the funnel. Carefully remove the espresso powder from the funnel. Clean all individual parts with clear water. Resistant powder residues in the funnel and sieve can be removed with a cleaning brush.
  3. To clean the riser pipe, remove the gasket and sieve and rinse the upper part from the bottom with clear water.
  4. Allow the coffee maker to dry completely. We recommend that you keep the individual parts unscrewed during storage.

Thorough cleaning

Attention! To ensure the safe function of the coffee maker, the coffee maker must be thoroughly cleaned on a regular basis. The intervals depend on the intensity of use. Check the coffee maker for heavy soiling before each use.

  1. Allow the coffee maker to cool down completely before cleaning.
  2. Unscrew the coffee maker and remove the funnel. Carefully remove the espresso powder from the funnel. Rinse all parts of the coffee maker individually and thoroughly in hot rinse water. Also, remove the gasket and sieve so you can clean the inside of the riser pipe in the top of the coffee maker.
  3. Brush the funnel and sieve with a brush to remove any resistant powder residues from the holes.
  4. Afterwards, rinse all individual parts thoroughly with clear water.
  5. Allow the coffee maker to dry completely. We recommend that you keep the individual parts unscrewed during storage.

Decalcifying

Attention! To ensure the safe function of the coffee maker, the coffee maker must be descaled on a regular basis. The intervals depend on the intensity of use and the lime content in the water. Check the coffee maker, especially the safety valve, for limescale residues before each use.

  1. Start as in "Thorough cleaning".

  2. Model-based, the safety valve is equipped with a movable pin. Pull the pin forward from the outside to the resistance and release the pin. By the rebound of the pin, the calcifications in the safety valve are loosened.

  3. Fill the lower part of the coffee maker to the edge with a solution of citric acid or vinegar. For heavy calcification, use commercially available descaling agent according to the instructions given there. Attention! It is important that especially the safety valve has contact with the solution or the descaling agent.

  4. Insert the funnel into the lower part so that it is also descaled.

  5. Remove the sieve from the upper part and place it in a separate container with the used solution or descaling agent.

  6. Leave everything until the lime has dissolved completely.

  7. Afterwards, pour some of the liquid out of the lower part so that the safety valve is no longer in the liquid.

  8. Make sure the sieve and gasket are properly inserted in the upper part of the coffee maker. Place the upper part straight on the lower part, so that they do not jam and turn both parts tightly together. Attention! Do not add espresso powder.

  9. Place the coffee maker on a suitable heat source and heat it only at a medium level to avoid overboiling and to protect the coffee maker. If the liquid has flowed into the upper part, remove the coffee maker from the heat source immediately. Once the coffee maker has cooled down, repeat the process one to two times with the used solution.

  10. After that, clean the coffee maker again, as in "Thorough cleaning".

Maintenance

Attention! The coffee maker works with overpressure. All individual parts have a safety-relevant function, so that the perfect condition of all parts must be given at all times!

This can only be guaranteed if:

· cleaning and descaling must be carried out properly at the necessary intervals. Please observe the corresponding instructions in this manual.
- all parts that show visible signs of wear or other damages are replaced. Use original accessories only. For this contact the authorized dealer.
