1. SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

Read the enclosed safety warnings, the additional safety warnings and the instructions. Failure to follow the safety warnings and the instructions may result in electric shock, fi re and/or serious injury. Save the safety warnings and the instructions for future reference.

GENERAL POWER TOOL SAFETY WARNINGS

WARNING! Read all safety warnings and all instructions. Failure to follow the warnings and instructions may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury.

Save all warnings and instructions for future reference.

The term “power tool” in the warnings refers to your mains-operated (corded) power tool or battery-operated (cordless) power tool.

1) Work area safety

a) Keep the work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
b) Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of fl ammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.
c) Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control.

2) Electrical safety

a) Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock.
b) Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.
c) Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock.
d) Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock.
e) When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use. Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock.
f) If operating a power tool in a damp location is unavoidable, use a residual current device

(RCD) protected supply. Use of an RCD reduces the risk of electric shock.

3) Personal safety

a) Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication.

A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury.

b) Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection. Protective equipment such as dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries.

c) Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off-position before connecting to power source and/or battery pack, picking up or carrying the tool. Carrying power tools with your fi nger on the switch or energising power tools that have the switch on invites accidents.

d) Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on. A wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury.

e) Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations.

f) Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair, clothing and gloves away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair can be caught in moving parts.

g) If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection facilities, ensure these are connected and properly used. Use of dust collection can reduce dust related hazards.

h) Do not let familiarity gained from frequent use of tools allow you to become complacent and ignore tool safety principles. A careless action can cause severe injury within a fraction of a second.

4) Power tool use and care

a) Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. The correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed.

b) Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off. Any power tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.

c) Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or the battery pack from the power tool before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally.

d) Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users.

e) Maintain power tools. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the power tool's operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.

f) Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control.

g) Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc. in accordance with these instructions, taking into account the working conditions and the work to be performed. Use of the power tool for operations different from those intended could result in a hazardous situation.

h) Keep handles and grasping surfaces dry, clean and free from oil and grease. Slippery handles and grasping surfaces do not allow for safe handling and control of the tool in unexpected situations.

5) Battery tool use and care

a) Recharge only with the charger specified by the manufacturer. A charger that is suitable for one type of battery pack may create a risk of fire when used with another battery pack.

b) Use power tools only with specifi cally designated battery packs. Use of any other battery packs may create a risk of injury and fi re.

c) When battery pack is not in use, keep it away from other metal objects, like paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screws or other small metal objects that can make a connection from one terminal to another. Shorting the battery terminals together may cause burns or a fire.

d) Under abusive conditions, liquid may be ejected from the battery; avoid contact. If contact accidentally occurs, fl ush with water. If liquid contacts eyes, additionally seek medical help.

Liquid ejected from the battery may cause irritation or burns.

e) Do not use a battery pack or tool that is damaged or modified. Damaged or modified batteries may exhibit unpredictable behaviour resulting in fire, explosion or risk of injury.
f) Do not expose a battery pack or tool to fi re or excessive temperature. Exposure to fi re or temperature above 130 °C may cause explosion. NOTE The temperature „130 °C“ can be replaced by the temperature „265 °F“.
g) Follow all charging instructions and do not charge the battery pack or tool outside the temperature range specified in the instructions. Charging improperly or at temperatures outside the specified range may damage the battery and increase the risk of fire.

6) Service

a) Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repair person using only identical replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of the power tool is maintained.
b) Never service damaged battery packs. Service of battery packs should only be performed by the manufacturer or authorized service providers.

HEDGE TRIMMER SAFETY WARNINGS

a) Keep all parts of the body away from the blade. Do not remove cut material or hold material to be cut when blades are moving. Blades continue to move after the switch is turned off. A moment of inattention while operating the hedge trimmer may result in serious personal injury.
b) Carry the hedge trimmer by the handle with the blade stopped and taking care not to operate any power switch. Proper carrying of the hedge trimmer will decrease the risk of inadvertent starting and resultant personal injury from the blades.
c) When transporting or storing the hedge trimmer, always fit the blade cover. Proper handling of the hedge trimmer will decrease the risk of personal injury from the blades.
d) When clearing jammed material or servicing the unit, make sure all power switches are off and the battery pack is removed or disconnected. Unexpected actuation of the hedge trimmer while clearing jammed material or servicing may result in serious personal injury.

e) Hold the hedge trimmer by insulated gripping surfaces only, because the blade may contact hidden wiring. Blades contacting a "live" wire may make exposed metal parts of the hedge trimmer "live" and could give the operator an electric shock.
f) Keep all power cords and cables away from cutting area. Power cords or cables may be hidden in hedges or bushes and can be accidentally cut by the blade.
g) Do not use the hedge trimmer in bad weather conditions, especially when there is a risk of lightning. This decreases the risk of being struck by lightning.

EXTENDED-REACH HEDGE TRIMMER SAFETY WARNINGS

a) To reduce the risk of electrocution, never use the extended-reach hedge trimmer near any electrical power lines. Contact with or use near power lines may cause serious injury or electric shock resulting in death.
b) Always use two hands when operating the extended-reach hedge trimmer. Hold the extended-reach hedge trimmer with both hands to avoid loss of control.
c) Always use head protection when operating the extended-reach hedge trimmer overhead. Falling debris can result in serious personal injury.

ADDITIONAL SAFETY WARNINGS

a) This tool is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.
b) When working with the machine, always hold it firmly with both hands and provide for a secure stance. The power tool is guided more secure with both hands.
c) Always ensure all handles and guards are fi tted when using the machine. Never attempt to use an incomplete machine or one fi tted with an unauthorized modification.
d) Always lubricate the cutting blade with protective spray before use.
e) Always wait until the machine has come to a complete stop before placing it down.

f) Other persons and animals should remain at a distance of 3 meters or more when the machine is being used. The operator is responsible for third persons in the working area.
g) Never grasp the blade of the hedge trimmer.
h) Children or persons unfamiliar with these instructions must not operate the hedge trimmer. Local regulations may restrict the age of the operator.
i) Never cut a hedge while people, especially children or pets, are nearby.
j) The user is responsible for accidents or hazards occurring to other people or their property.
k) Do not operate the hedge trimmer when barefoot or wearing open sandals, always wear substantial footwear and long trousers. The use of sturdy gloves, non-skid footwear and safety glasses is recommended. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry which can be caught in moving parts.
I) Thoroughly inspect the area where the hedge trimmer is to be used and remove all wires and other foreign objects.
m) Prior to operation, check cutter blades, blade bolts and cutter assembly for wear or damage. Do not operate with a damaged or excessively worn cutting device.
n) Know how to stop the hedge trimmer quickly in an emergency.
o) Cut a hedge only in daylight or in good artificial light.
p) Never operate the hedge trimmer with defective guards or without the guard in place.
q) Never hold the hedge trimmer by the guard.
r) When operating the hedge trimmer, ensure to keep proper footing and balance at all times.
s) Always be aware of your surroundings and stay alert for possible hazards that you may not hear whilst operating the hedge trimmer.
t) Keep all nuts, bolts and screws tight to ensure that the hedge trimmer is always in a safe working condition.
u) The hedge trimmer should be stored in a dry, high or locked up place out of the reach of children.
v) Replace worn or damaged parts for safety.
w) Do not attempt to repair the machine unless you are qualified to do so.
x) Hold the product securely with both hands.

SAFETY WARNINGS FOR BATTERY

a) Do not open the battery. Danger of short-circu- iting.
b) Protect the battery against heat, e. g., against continuous intense sunlight, fire, water, and moisture. Danger of explosion.
c) In case of damage and improper use of the battery, vapours may be emitted. Ventilate the area and seek medical help in case of complaints.

The vapours can irritate the respiratory system.

d) Use the battery only in conjunction with your Vonroc product. This measure alone protects the battery against dangerous overload.
e) The battery can be damaged by pointed objects such as nails or screwdrivers or by force applied externally. An internal short circuit can occur and the battery can burn, smoke, explode or overheat.

SAFETY WARNINGS FOR CHARGER

Intended use

Charge only CD801AA and CD803AA type rechargeable Battery packs with the charger. Other types of batteries may burst causing personal injury and damage.

a) The appliance is not to be used by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction.
b) Children being supervised not to play with the appliance.
c) Do not recharging non-rechargeable batteries!
d) During charging, batteries must be placed in the well ventilated area!

Electrical safety

Always check that the voltage of the power supply corresponds to the voltage on the rating plate.

• Do not use the machine if the mains cable or the mains plug is damaged.
• Only use extension cables that are suitable for the power rating of the machine with a minimum thickness of 1.5 mm ^2 . If you use an extension cable reel, always fully unroll the cable.

Intended use

The machine is intended for domestic use, for cutting and trimming hedges and bushes at elevated height, while the user is situated on the ground.

The machine is not intended to be used on a ladder or steps. The machine is not designed to cut grass and cannot be used as a grass trimmer. This tool is not intended for commercial or industrial use.

3. ASSEMBLY

Before any work (maintenance, tool change, assembly) on the power tool, remove the battery from the power tool.

The battery must be charged before first use.

Inserting the battery into the machine (Fig. B-1)

Ensure that the exterior of the battery is clean and dry before connecting to the charger or machine.

1. Insert the battery (12) into the base of the machine as shown in Fig. B-1.
2. Push the battery further forward until it clicks into place.

Removing the battery from the machine (Fig. B-1)

1. Push the battery release button (14).
2. Pull the battery out of the machine like shown in Fig. B-1.

Checking the battery charging status (Fig. B-2)

- To check the battery charge status, push the button (15) on battery shortly.

- The battery has 3 lights indicating the charge level, the more lights that burn, the more charge the battery has left.

- When the lights are not burning it means the battery is empty and must be charged immediately.

Charging the battery with the charger (Fig. B-2)

1. Take the battery (12) from the machine.

2. Turn the battery (12) to upside down position and slide it onto the charger (13) as shown in Fig. B-2.

3. Push the battery until it is fully pushed into the slot.

4. Plug the charger plug into an electrical outlet and wait for a while. The LED indicators on the charger (17) will lighten up and show the charger status

The charger has 2 LED indicators (17) which indicate the status of the charging process:

• Fully charging the 2Ah battery may take up to 60 minutes.
• Fully charging the 4Ah battery may take up to 120 minutes.

After the battery is fully charged remove the charger plug from the outlet and remove the battery from the charger.

When the machine is not being used over a longer period of time it is best to store the battery in charged condition.

Tool assembly (Fig. C, D)

• Attach the shoulder strap (9) to the loop on the handle (7) using the carabiner (10).
• Release the head locking ring (3) by rotating it anti-clockwise. Do not completely remove the ring from the head.
• Fit the hedge trimmer head (1) to the telescopic handle (7) by inserting the power connector (8) into the head.
• If the connector (8) is not inserted properly, there might be no electrical connection and the tool will not work. Make sure that the power connector is fully inserted into the hedge trimmer head. The screw (18) on the handle should be covered by the trimmer head (1) and locking ring (3).
• Secure the hedge trimmer head (1) by rotating the locking ring (3) clockwise

Never fasten the belt diagonally across the shoulder and chest, but place it on one of the shoulders. This way you can quickly remove the tool from your body in case of danger.

Adjusting the telescopic height (Fig. E-1, E-2)

• Unlock the lever (5) to release the telescopic handle (7).
• Extend or retract the telescopic handle (7) to the desired length.
• Secure the telescopic handle by locking the lever (5).

Adjusting the pivoting hedge trimmer head (Fig. F-1, F-2)

• Press both the button (2) on the side of the hedge trimmer head (1).
• Adjust the head to the desired position.
• Release the button (2) and make sure the head is locked in place.

4. OPERATION

Before use (Fig. G)

Remove the blade guard (11) and lubricate the blades (4).

Switching on and off

Always hold the hedge trimmer with both hands. Place one hand on the telescopic handle (7) and one hand on the rear handle near the power switch. Press and hold the power switch (6) to operate the machine. When the power switch is released the machine will automatically stop.

After use

Wipe off any dirt and debris from the blades (4) using a brush or cloth. Lubricate the blades, place the blade guard (11), and remove the battery (12) before storing the machine.

5. MAINTENANCE

Before cleaning and maintenance, always switch off the machine and remove the battery pack from the machine.

Clean the machine casings regularly with a soft cloth, preferably after each use. Make sure that the ventilation openings are free of dust and dirt. Remove very persistent dirt using a soft cloth moistened with soapsuds. Do not use any solvents such as gasoline, alcohol, ammonia, etc. Chemicals such as these will damage the synthetic components.

Cutting blade

• Always wear gloves when handling or cleaning the cutting blade.
• Clean the cutting blade and spray with a protective oil after every use. We recommend lubricating the cutting blade with protective oil at regular intervals during long working periods.
• Visually inspect the condition of the cutting blade. Check if the screws are firmly seated in the cutter bar.

Storage

The hedge trimmer should be kept in a safe, dry place, well out of the reach of children. Do not place other objects on top of it.

ENVIRONMENT

Equity and/or discarded electrical or electronic apparatus have to be collected at the appropriate recycling locations.

Only for EC countries

Do not dispose of power tools into domestic waste. According to the European Guideline 2012/19/EC for Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment and its implementation into national right, power tools that are no longer usable must be collected separately and disposed of in an environmentally friendly way.

WARRANTY

VONROC products are developed to the highest quality standards and are guaranteed free of defects in both materials and workmanship for the period lawfully stipulated starting from the date of original purchase. Should the product develop any failure during this period due to defective material and/or workmanship then contact VONROC directly.

The following circumstances are excluded from this guarantee:

• Repairs and or alterations have been made or attempted to the machine by unauthorized service centers;

• Normal wear and tear;

• The tool has been abused, misused or improperly maintained;

• Non-original spare parts have been used.

This constitutes the sole warranty made by company either expressed or implied. There are no other warranties expressed or implied which extend beyond the face hereof, herein, including the implied warranties of merchantability and fi tness for a particular purpose. In no event shall VONROC be liable for any incidental or consequential damages. The dealers remedies shall be limited to repair or replacement of nonconforming units or parts.
