Frequently Asked Questions - 4421FL Flama

How to clean the non-stick plates?
Clean the plates with a soft cloth dampened with warm water and mild detergent. Never use abrasive sponges, steel wool, or metal utensils that could scratch the non-stick coating. Do not put the appliance in the dishwasher.
Can I use the grill plate to cook frozen foods?
No, it is not recommended to cook or defrost frozen foods. All foods must be completely thawed before cooking to ensure even cooking and avoid health risks.
What should I do if the appliance emits smoke during first use?
It is normal for the appliance to emit a slight smoke during the first few minutes of operation. This is due to the burning of manufacturing residues. The smoke disappears quickly; this does not affect safety or operation.
How to adjust the cooking temperature?
Turn the thermostat knob between the Min and Max positions. For quick preheating, set it to Max first, then adjust according to desired cooking. The operation indicator light turns off when the temperature is reached.
Can I use metal utensils on the plates?
No, never use metal utensils (knives, tongs, etc.) as they would irreparably damage the non-stick coating. Use wooden or heat-resistant plastic spatulas.
How to open the grill to 180°?
Lift the top plate using the handle, then press the 180° opening button located on the hinge. The top plate unlocks and allows full opening for use as two separate plates.
What does the operation indicator light that turns on and off mean?
This is normal: the light turns on when the heating element is operating and turns off when the set temperature is reached. It turns back on when the temperature drops, thus maintaining even cooking.
How to clean the fat collection tray?
Remove the tray after each use, empty it, then wash it with hot soapy water. Avoid abrasive sponges. Rinse and dry thoroughly before putting it back.
Can I store the appliance vertically?
Yes, the grill can be stored vertically once cooled and dry. Make sure it is unplugged and the grease tray is empty.
What should I do if the power cord is damaged?
Do not use the appliance. The cord must be replaced by the manufacturer, its after-sales service, or similarly qualified personnel to avoid any hazard. Contact an approved FLAMA technical service.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

Before first use

Remove all labels, stickers and tags, except for the technical information label.

Clean the appliance according to the directions in the “Cleaning and maintenance” section.

Do not submerge the appliance in water and do not pour water directly onto the appliance.

For best results, lightly grease the nonstick plates with a little cooking oil.

Warning: do not use this product to cook or defrost frozen foods. All foods should be completely defrosted before cooking them with this product.

Note - during the first minutes of operation (on the first use only), the appliance may produce some smoke that will disappear right away. This is normal and does not affect the safety or operation of the appliance.

Use

Fully unwind the power cable.

Place the appliance on a flat and horizontal surface, such that the power cable is not stretched out.

Lightly grease the nonstick plates with cooking oil.

Plug the power cable into the electrical socket. If using an extension cable, make sure it is grounded. The power indicator light will turn on, indicating that the appliance is connected to the electrical current.

Rotate the thermostat control knob between the Min and Max position, depending on the food to be cooked. The operating indicator light will turn on.

Unlock the plates by moving the lock/elevation lever to the unlocked position.

Warning: the nonstick plates and appliance surfaces can heat up during appliance operation. To prevent the risk of burns, only touch the appliance by its handle.

Allow the nonstick plates to preheat for 5 to 7 minutes. The operating indicator light will turn off, indicating that the appliance is ready to cook.

Use the handle to lift the upper plate. Place the foods on the lower plate using, if necessary, a wooden or heat-resistant plastic utensil.

Warning: do not use metal utensils on the nonstick plates, as this may irreparably damage the nonstick coating.

Use the handle to lower the upper nonstick plate.

Note - the operating indicator light may turn on and off during cooking, which is normal and does not affect the operation of the appliance.

Important - always remove foods with the help of a plastic or wooden spatula. Never use metallic tongs or knives, as these may cause irreparable damage to the nonstick coating of the plates.

Using the grill in the closed position (fig. 1)

Adjust the thermostat control (6) to the desired temperature. To start, turn it to the Max position, later adjusting it to your preference.

Unlock the upper plate.

Prepare hamburgers, boneless pieces of meat and thin cuts of meat or other foods and place them on the lower plate, using the handle to lift the upper plate.

Close the grill. The upper plate has a floating hinge that is designed to apply even pressure to the foods. The upper plate should be completely lowered to leave grill marks on the foods.

When the foods are cooked, use the handle to open the grill.

Using the grill in the parallel plate position (fig. 2)

Adjust the thermostat control to the desired temperature. To start, turn it to the Max position, later adjusting it to your preference.

Unlock the upper plate.

Prepare the foods and place them on the lower plate, using the handle to lift the upper plate.

Slide the lock/elevation lever back and close the grill.

In this position, the lock/elevation lever prevents the upper plate from pressing down on the foods.

Using the grill in the open position (figs. 3 and 4)

Adjust the thermostat control (6) to the desired temperature. To start, turn it to the Max position, later adjusting it to your preference.

Unlock the upper plate.

Use the handle to lift the upper plate and press the 180^ release button to unlock the upper plate and allow the grill to open completely.

Prepare the foods and place them on the plates.

Note - some foods release more liquids than others. Pay attention, as some liquids may drip outside the fat collection tray.

Never use abrasive products that may scratch or damage the nonstick coating.

Do not use metal utensils to remove the foods, as these may damage the nonstick surface.
